Melissa grew quiet, laying there with him. She just lay there in his arms, curling in on herself.
Melissa grew quiet, laying there with him. She just lay there in his arms, curling in on herself.
Lucas sighed softly. "Now, c'mon. Let's go make you some toast or something."
Melissa pulled him even closer, burying her face in his shoulder. She didn't move, only curled up closer.
"Melissa… please." Lucas sighed softly. "I wanna make you some breakfast."
"But… but I don't want to eat…" Melissa mumbled as she curled up closer. "Please, don't make me… I- I don't want to…"
"I know you don't want to, but not eating is really harmful, okay? I'm not gonna let you hurt yourself."
Melissa was curling in on herself even more, finally starting to loosen her hold on him. "But… but I don't wanna…"
"I know…" Lucas pulled away from Melissa and left the blanket fort. "But it's for your good."
Melissa glanced up at him before curling back in on herself. She hugged her knees close to her chest, chin resting on them.
Lucas headed off to the kitchen to make some toast for himself and Melissa. He kept quiet while he worked on it.
Melissa pulled a blanket up, pulling it over her shoulders. Pulling it around her tightly, she pushed herself back so she was leaning against the front of the couch as she waited for Lucas to come back.
Soon, Lucas returned with two plates of cinnamon toast. "Here you go, Mel." He sat down beside her and began eating.
Melissa took it from him, loosening her position. "Thanks…" She mumbled, practically forcing herself to take a bite.
Lucas gently kissed Melissa's cheek to try and reassure her, sighing softly to himself.
Melissa was quiet almost the whole time, eating slowly. Eventually she set the plate aside, pulling her knees back up to her chest.
"I'm sorry, Mel…" Lucas sighed, pulling her into a tight hug. "You know I love you, right?"
Melissa nodded weakly, burying her face in his chest. She curled up against him with her head on his chest. "I- I'm sorry… I- I should just be normal…"
"Mel, no one's normal. Especially not us." Lucas laughed weakly. "I don't expect you to be perfect, just like you don't expect me to be perfect."
"B-but… I should be…" She whispered weakly, looking up at him as tears brimmed her eyes. "I- I have a good life. I- I've got more than some people, and I should just be happy. I- why can't I just be happy?"
"Mel, anyone can have depression or anxiety or an eating disorder or anything else regardless of what kind of life they live. It's not your fault."
"B-But I… I…" Melissa steadily started getting worked up, tears making their way down her cheeks. "And- you… you shouldn't have to try and… and help me with stuff like this. I- I'm a teenager- I should… should be able to take care of m-myself-"
"Melissa, please… I'm a seventeen year old guy— almost an adult! And I can't even handle doing my homework without popping pills." Lucas sighed softly. "And yet, you still love me. You still help me, even when I feel hopeless. What kind of boyfriend would I be if I let you feel like this when it isn't even your fault, hmm?"
Melissa grew quiet, trying to let his words sink in. Multiple times she opened her mouth to protest, but choked before any words came out. Though tears streamed down her face, she was starting to calm down. "…I'm- I'm sorry… I'm such a hypocrite— I was j-just telling you yesterday… and…"
"It's okay, Mel… I just want to help you, alright? Because I love you, and I want to be happy and safe and healthy. I want to help you take care of yourself the way you help me."
Melissa leaned up against him, pulling his arm tighter around her before looking up at him. "I- I know you do… I- I'm sorry… I'm being difficult, I'm not helping." She mumbled, mind starting to wander as she stared at her hands.
"Come, now… I'm always difficult." Lucas laughed weakly. "I'm sure I'm a pain to deal with. You're not so bad as you think."
Melissa glanced up at him, a tired look on her face. "I'm not?" She asked softly, hesitantly tracing circles into his chest.
"Nah, you're not so bad. And I rather enjoy your company, darling." Lucas kissed Melissa softly.
Melissa curled up against him, kissing his cheek in return. "Right… I love you." She mumbled.
"I love you too, Mel…" Lucas hummed softly to himself and held Melissa close.
