Lucas eventually finished the first assignment and moved onto another, keeping quiet all the while.
Melissa smiled softly kissing his cheek. "Look at you, you've already got another one done." She whispered, rubbing the back of his hand with her thumb.
"Mhmm…" Lucas returned the kiss and kept writing, eventually beginning to tap one foot on the ground.
Melissa sighed weakly, rubbing his shoulders. She still nuzzled against him in attempt to relax him. "I love you…"
"I love you too, Mel…" Lucas sighed as well. "Did you already do all of this stuff?" He asked.
"Most of it, yeah. I still have a couple assignments I should probably work on." Melissa sighed softly, kissing him again. "It's nothing big, though."
"Mm… you probably should. Wouldn't want to get behind like me." Lucas laughed weakly.
"I seriously doubt that'll happen." Melissa smiled softly, kissing his cheek. "I'll go get it in a couple minutes, though. I wanna sit here with you."
"Mmkay." Lucas kept writing down answers as well as he could, sighing softly to himself.
Melissa gently continued to rub his shoulders as he worked, pressing a soft kiss to his shoulder. "You're doing good, Lu…"
"Thanks, Mel… how much more do I have to do today?" He asked weakly.
"Just a couple more… we can eat dinner after you finish some of them." Melissa whispered, resting her head against him again.
"Mmkay…" Lucas sighed and kept writing, clearly beginning to grow frazzled again as time went on.
After a while, Melissa looked up at him with a frown. "Hey…" She whispered, kissing his forehead. "You're doing so good. Just finish this assignment, and you can take a break if you need it…"
Lucas nodded a bit, sighing shakily as he scribbled down a few more answers. "Alright, Mel…"
"You're almost done…" Melissa attempted to encourage him softly. Gently she rubbed circles into his back.
"Mm…" Lucas eventually finished the paper and pushed everything away from himself, sighing heavily.
When he pushed it away, Melissa pulled him into a tight hug. "Look at you. You've earned yourself a break for dinner. What sounds good?"
"I don't care…" Lucas sighed softly, rubbing at his tired eyes a bit. "I just wanna be done…"
"I know, love…" Melissa sighed softly, running her fingers through his hair gently. "You wanna go lie down while I'm working on something to eat?"
"I guess… but I don't want you to have to do it alone, Mel…" Lucas sighed softly.
"It's okay, Lu. You don't need to worry about me. You can go lie down." Melissa insisted, kissing his forehead. "I was just gonna make a sandwich or something."
"Okay, okay…" Lucas returned the kiss and reluctantly headed over to the blanket fort to lie down.
After a couple minutes, Melissa carried two plates over to the fort. She ducked under it, giving him a soft smile. "Here you are, love."
"Thanks, Mel…" Lucas sat up with Melissa and accepted his plate from her.
Melissa smiled softly, scooting closer to rest her head on his shoulder. "Mm, no problem…"
Lucas rested his head on Melissa's and started eating his sandwich, quivering lightly with nerves.
Melissa didn't say anything for the moment, just quietly eating. Eventually she looked up at him. "You doing alright?"
"Yeah, I'm okay…" Lucas soon finished his sandwich and huddled up with Melissa. "Just brain dead…"
