“I know, Lu…” Melissa whispered, leaning into him. “But I’m here to help you best I can.”
“I know, Lu…” Melissa whispered, leaning into him. “But I’m here to help you best I can.”
"Mhmm… what if you need help too, though?" Lucas asked softly. "I probably won't be able to do anything…"
“I’ll be fine, Lucas. I’ve managed to make it this far.” Melissa shrugged, kissing the top of his head. “Don’t worry about helping me.”
"Mm… are you sure?" Lucas asked softly. "I just feel so helpless…"
"I'm sure, I'll be fine." Melissa insisted, kissing him a couple times more. "You've got enough to deal with, anyways."
"Yeah…" Lucas buried his face back in Melissa's shoulder. "It'll be good to be back, though."
"Back at school?" Melissa asked softly, keeping him close to herself. "You think?"
"Yeah, I think so… I've been really lonely at the hospital. It'll be good to be out doing things again."
"That's fair… I personally am not looking forwards to it, though." Melissa huffed, nuzzling against him.
"Yeah…" Lucas toyed with Melissa's hair again and sighed. "I mean, it'll be hard, but it'll be good to get back into the groove of things…"
"I guess." Melissa shrugged, leaning back into the couch. "I'd really rather not have to, though…"
Lucas shrugged a bit. "I suppose so. I love you…" He murmured.
Melissa sighed softly, nuzzling up against him. "I love you, too, darling." She whispered.
"What time is it?" Lucas asked gently. "I dunno how long we've been laying here…"
"Um…" Melissa trailed off, pulling her phone out. "It's almost four thirty."
"Alrighty… we'll do dinner in a few hours, then. Anything else you wanna do in the meantime?"
Melissa shook her head, snuggling up closer. "Not particularly." She shrugged, leaning into his arms.
"Alrighty… do you just wanna cuddle for a while, then?" He asked.
"If that's what you want," Melissa nodded, nuzzling against his cheek. "If you'd rather do something else, then I'm happy doing that."
"I don't care either way, darling. I'm happy to do anything or nothing at all."
"I honestly think cuddling sounds nice…" Melissa mumbled as she yawned some. "Mm, I might want to grab a book though. I don't really want to sleep."
"Sure, Mel… you can grab a book if you want to. Or I could go get one for you?" He offered.
"I don't really care, Lu." Melissa shrugged, kissing his forehead. "If you want to, I won't stop you. Otherwise, I'll go get it."
"I'll go get it. What book do you want?" Lucas asked as he carefully got to his feet.
"The one I've been reading is sitting on the desk by my bed." Melissa hummed a little, holding onto his hand, still. "It's, The Hate You Give."
"Alright, I'll be right back." Lucas kissed Melissa's hand and headed upstairs, soon returning with the book.
Melissa glanced up at him as he came down stairs, smiling softly. "Thanks, love." She whispered, scooting over on the couch to give him some room.
"No problem." Lucas huddled up with Melissa again and hummed softly. "What's it about?" He asked.
"Um… well, this girl grows up in a poor, mostly black neighborhood. But she goes to this wealthy, mostly white prep school. One of her best friends is caught up in a shooting by a police officer, and she's gotta go and try to find…" Melissa trailed off, flipping the book over to read the back. "Her inner voice. The last bit is kinda cheesy, but a pretty good book so far."
"Mm… sounds exciting." Lucas kissed Melissa's cheek and cuddled closer, keeping quiet so Melissa could read.
