Melissa let his words sink in, still folded into his arms. She kept a tight grip on him as she leaned into him, sniffling and hiccuping occasionally. "I-I'm sorry… I-I'm so sorry…"
Melissa let his words sink in, still folded into his arms. She kept a tight grip on him as she leaned into him, sniffling and hiccuping occasionally. "I-I'm sorry… I-I'm so sorry…"
"It's okay, Mel… I'm not mad at you. I'm just worried for your safety." Lucas sighed. "Especially since I've been gone so long…"
"I-I'm sorry…" Melissa repeated, curling up even closer. "I-I should be able to take care of m-myself. I-I shouldn't have t-to depend on you…"
"Melissa, please… I've had to depend on you for so long. This is nothing compared to the shit you've had to deal with on my end."
"B-but you think I'd be able to do a simple task like e-eating by myself…" Melissa whispered, starting to calm down. "I-It's ridiculous."
"And you'd think I'd be able to do a simple task like not hurting myself. You'd think it would be easy, but it isn't. Don't beat yourself up so much…"
"B-But it's… it's different Lucas… I-" Melissa trailed off, growing incredibly quiet. She stayed curled up against him, trembling still.
Lucas sighed. "That doesn't matter, Melissa. What matters is that I want to help you, okay? It's not safe for you to keep doing this."
A couple minutes of quiet went by before Melissa pulled back, rubbing at her eyes. "I… h-how are you going to help me?"
"Well, we can get you a therapist you feel comfortable with, and monitor your eating, and the like…"
Melissa nodded weakly, still rubbing at her eyes. "I- um… we need to tell my d-dad, d-don't we?"
Lucas nodded a bit. "Yes, probably… I can't help you all by myself. I really don't have the resources." He sighed.
Melissa sighed weakly, pulling her knees up to her chest. "H-He's probably going to be upset with me… I- I really don't want to have to tell him…"
"I can talk to him, Mel… I don't think he'll be mad. He cares about you, okay? More than you seem to think."
"But… but I kind of pushed him away." Melissa whispered, looking over to him. "He tried to help me, but… but I pushed him away from me. I'm worried what he's going to say to me now. You really don't think he's going to be mad? Or upset?"
"I think he wants to help you because he's your father and he loves you. Your dad cares about you, okay?" Lucas sighed softly.
"I-I know… I'm worrying over nothing…" Melissa whispered, hiding her face again.
Lucas sighed and hugged Melissa more tightly. "It's okay, love… when should I go talk to him?"
“Not now… I- I need you to stay. Please…” Melissa whispered, leaning in to his arms. “I- I need you. Please don’t leave me…”
"That's fine, Mel… I'll stay as long as you need me to." Lucas kissed Melissa softly and held her closer.
Melissa fell quiet, slowly tracing letter into his chest. She sighed shakily, looking up at him occasionally.
"I love you…" He murmured softly as he huddled closer to Melissa. "So much, okay?"
Melissa nodded just a little, resting her head on his shoulder. "I… I love you too. Thank you… for being here for me."
"Of course, Melissa…" Lucas rested his head against Melissa's with a soft sigh. "I won't leave you…"
"Promise?" Melissa asked in a whisper, still slowly tracing into his chest. "I… I really don't know what I'd do without you."
"I promise, Mel… I'll stay with you as long as you need me to." Lucas tried to get himself to relax more.
Melissa fell quiet again, letting his words bounce around in her head. She let it settle, slowly relaxing. After almost half and hour, she pulled back with a light sigh. "I love you…"
"I love you too, darling… so much… are you feeling any better?" He asked gently.
Melissa nodded some, reaching for his hand. She slowly pulled it up to hold her face, leaning into it. "Yeah… I-I don't really want to leave yet, though."
"I know, Mel… you can just let me know when you're ready, okay?" Lucas smiled weakly.
