"You promise, right? You're not going to do stuff like that?" Melissa asked softly, slowing down a little to look back at him. She was avoiding tripping on roots the best she could.

"I promise, Mel. I'm not gonna do anything stupid." Lucas smiled gently back at her.

Melissa nodded some, sighing softly. "Thank you…" She whispered, continuing on back to the tree.

"Mhmm." Lucas sat down by the tree again once they reached it, smiling contentedly to himself.

Melissa hesitated, before looking down at him. "Can… can I sit in your lap?" She asked softly, arms wrapped around herself.

Lucas flushed a bit and nodded. "U-Uhm, yeah, sure… if you'd like to." He replied softly.

Melissa gave a gentle smile, slowly sitting down in his lap. "Mm, thanks…" She mumbled, nuzzling into the crook of his neck.

Lucas buried his red face in Melissa's shoulder, holding her closer to himself.

Melissa sighed weakly, kissing the top of his head. She kept quiet for the time being, letting her eyes fall closed.

"I-I love you, Mel…" Lucas murmured softly. "So much…"

"Hmm?" Melissa hummed, fluttering her eyes open to look at him. "Oh, I love you too." She replied just as softly.

Lucas looked up at Melissa meekly, his face still very red. "Mm?"

Melissa smiled softly, kissing his lips. "I said I loved you too. So very much at that."

Lucas returned the kiss and smiled gently as well. "That's good to hear, darling…"

Melissa kept up the little smile, nosing against his cheek softly. "I really mean it, every time I tell you."

"I do too, Mel… I… I really missed this, you know?" He murmured softly.

"What specifically? The clearing?" Melissa asked softly, head resting on his shoulder.

"Just… this. In general. Definitely getting to spend time here alone with you…"

"Mm, well I'm happy to be here with you." Melissa whispered, kissing his shoulder. "I've missed you so much…"

"I've missed you too, Mel…" Lucas hugged Melissa tightly and sighed. "I've missed all of this, but you the most…"

Melissa smiled a little more, curling up against him. "Mmm… I love you~"

"Love you too~" Lucas held Melissa close, humming contentedly to himself.

Melissa smiled, nosing into the crook of his neck again. "I'm lucky to have you…"

"Pretty sure I'm the lucky one, darling." Lucas flushed again when Melissa touched his neck, quivering a bit.

"Mm, whatever you say~" Melissa purred softly, pulling back. When she saw his flushed face, she grew quite confused. "I- what did I do?"

"N-Nothing, you haven't done anything wrong, Mel. Don't worry." Lucas smiled weakly and kissed Melissa again.

"Clearly I did something…" Melissa insisted, giving him a soft look. "I don't want to be doing something that's bothering you. You can tell me."

"I promise, it's not bothering me. You're just… you're very close. It's not upsetting to me at all, it just makes me a little more… you know… flustered." Lucas flushed a bit more and looked away sheepishly.

Melissa sighed weakly, slowly dropping her head on his shoulder. "I can get off, if you're feeling uncomfortable…" She whispered, reaching to hold his hand.

"N-No, it's really okay, Mel. I don't mind." Lucas buried his face in Melissa's shoulder again and held tight to her hand.
