Rowan grinned and gently stroked the eggshells. "Should add anything else? I think the hair clips would be a bad idea… they might choke on them."
Rowan grinned and gently stroked the eggshells. "Should add anything else? I think the hair clips would be a bad idea… they might choke on them."
Matthew thought a moment.
"Well, perhaps a few loose strings from your shirt or something? We can weave it into the nest so they couldn't choke on them."
Rowan nodded and tugged some loose strings out of his shirt and handed them to Matthew to put into the nest.
Matthew accepted the strings, arms around Rowan as he carefully added them to the nest.
"There we go…" he smiled gently.
"Now they'll know me when they hatch!" Rowan grinned. "When did you say you thought they were gonna hatch?"
"It could be any day now," Matthew said. "We'll have to be extra careful with them until then." He hummed faintly, arms still around Rowan.
Rowan nodded a bit. "We should name them! Birds are super cute. Is there any way to know what gender they are or should we go with gender neutral stuff."
"Well, we'd be able to tell once they're hatched! Are there any names you have in mind?" Matthew hummed gently, resting his head on Rowan's shoulder as he looked at the eggs.
"Mmmmm… we could call them Timmy, Tammy, and Tommy! If there's two boys and a girl anyway… matching names would be cute! Do you know what kind of birds they are?"
Matthew looked at the eggs a moment, thinking.
"They look like robins," he finally concluded. "And those names sound great!" He smiled at Rowan a moment.
"Aww, robins are so pretty…" Rowan smiled softly. "I can't wait for them to hatch. We're gonna take good care of them!"
Matthew smiled gently at Rowan's enthusiasm.
"You're gonna be great at this," he said. He looked down at the nest, smiling. "I'll help teach them how to fly."
Rowan nodded a bit. "Yeah… I wouldn't be very helpful with that, would I?" He laughed softly. "I'll be the emotional support."
Matthew chuckled gently.
"You'll be great at that," he assured. "You'll be great at raising these three."
Rowan grinned brightly. "Thanks, Matthew! I'm glad you think so! I love animals, so hopefully I'll be good…"
"Of course you will be! And if you need help with anything, I'll be happy to." He smiled brightly at Rowan, humming faintly.
"Thanks!" Rowan leaned back into Matthew again with another bright smile. "We're gonna be great parents."
Matthew blushed deeply, pulling his head back a bit to hide it.
"Ah, y-yeah…"
Rowan didn't seem to notice Matthew, simply petting the eggs with gentle fingers. "Birds are super cute. And there's lots of funny videos of them."
"Videos? What are those?" Matthew kept hidden behind Rowan's head, still red. Why did he have to phrase things like this..?
"Um… well, it's kind of… um… it's like real life, but you can record it on your phone or a camera or something so that you can watch it again after it happens."
"Oh… That sounds really cool!" Matthew rested his head on Rowan, closing his eyes a moment.
"Yeah! They're pretty common up on earth. Lots of people make them, and sometimes people will post their videos online if they're funny so that other people can see them too!"
"Have you made any?" Matthew asked. He hummed slightly, mostly calmed down by now.
"Yeah, I've made a few! Not any that I've posted online, of course, but I've taken a few videos of Maisie. Nothing super exciting happens to me."
"Aww." Matthew smiled a bit, holding Rowan close. "Awesome!"
Rowan smiled brightly at Matthew's enthusiasm. "It's really nothing special. Maybe I can show you some the next time we stop? I should still be able to look at my videos without cell service…"
"Okay! Thank you for that!" Matthew grinned back, holding Rowan close.
"And I'm sure you'll be able take some of the chicks when they hatch, too."
"Yeah, of course! If we're riding at the time, we'll totally have to stop when they start hatching." Rowan sighed happily.
"Okay! It'll be nice, to be about to keep a record of them being born." Matthew looked down at the eggs, gently touching the nest.
