Rowan flushed a bit and nodded. "Thanks, Matthew… I'll try my best to convince her. Do you think Maisie will be okay here?" He asked.
Rowan flushed a bit and nodded. "Thanks, Matthew… I'll try my best to convince her. Do you think Maisie will be okay here?" He asked.
"You're dog? I'm sure they will!" Matthew pulled his hand away from his wings. "And I'm sure your mother will come when she sees how much you want to."
Rowan nodded again. "I hope you're right… I mean, this is kind of a big decision… I take it that there aren't exactly very many humans here?"
Matthew shook his head a bit.
"I'd never seen one, before meeting you. But I'm glad I did." he offered a small smile.
"And… if you don't end up staying here, that's okay to."
"Yeah… it's… it's a lot, but I dunno… I mean, I've been thinking about moving for a while, it's just so sudden… I'll have to think about it."
Matthew nodded.
"Okay then… I won't push you into it." He smiled faintly.
"Thanks, Matthew… I'll have to talk to my mom as well. It's kinda important to me for her to be okay with all this…"
"Of course. She obviously means so much to you." he offered a weak smile again, finishing his food.
"She really does." Rowan smiled weakly as well. "She raised me, you know? And she did it well. It's the least I can do."
"I totally understand! It's nice to see you care so much for your mother." Matthew smiled gently, looking away a moment.
Rowan nodded and finished up with his dinner. "I'm excited for you to meet her. I think y'all will hit it off."
"I think so too. We did, after all." Matthew smiled, sitting back a bit.
"Yeah… I'd talk to anyone. Mom says I'm gonna get hurt again if I'm not a little more careful, but… you know. I like being nice."
"Again..?" Matthew watched Rowan a moment, a little concerned. "Is it… Okay if I ask?"
Rowan flushed a bit and looked away. "Um… I-I just… had a few less than kind romantic partners… and I was at the coffee shop when it got robbed that one time, so… still have a scar from that."
Matthew moved a bit more towards Rowan, frowning softly.
"How could someone ever hurt you…"
Rowan huddled up against Matthew's side. "U-Um… New York isn't exactly the safest place, I guess?"
Matthew hesitantly put this arm around Rowan, feeling protective.
"I'm sorry about that…"
"It's not your fault, Matthew… that's just how it is on earth. It's dangerous. Luckily, that's the only time I've been involved in a robbery… not as the robber, obviously."
"I… Earth sounds so dangerous," Matthew whispered softly, holding Rowan close.
"Yeah, I guess so… we've had a couple world wars and they were both really bad. There's a lot of violent people in my world."
Matthew shuddered a bit.
"I… is it selfish to say I'd rather you stayed in this world than that one? I… two wars that ravaged the whole world? I…"
Rowan smiled weakly up at him. "Well, we've had tons of wars, but those two were particularly big and involved lots of countries. Do you not have wars here?"
Matthew held Rowan close to his side, wing going around him a bit.
"Not like that," Matthew said softly. "And not that many."
"Oh…" Rowan huddled up against Matthew's side. "We're all pretty desensitized to it all at this point. We just learn about the wars in school."
Matthew shook his head.
"War is a horrible thing, it's not… no one should be desensitized to something like that."
Rowan shrugged a bit with a soft sigh. "I know… I really hate violence. I think there's always some other way to resolve things, but hey… that kind of thing is what gets you bullied and taken advantage of."
"Not in this world. Especially when I'm around." Matthew held Rowan a bit closer to that.
Rowan flushed lightly and huddled a bit closer. "Thanks, Matthew… um… I wasn't exactly popular when I was in school."
"Well, that shows just how backwards that world is. How could someone like you not be popular?" Matthew tilted his head towards Rowan a bit, wings going around them more securely.
