“Well, I’m trying to be encouraging.” Melissa laughed weakly, attempting to turn and face him. “Clearly, that’s not working.”
“Well, I’m trying to be encouraging.” Melissa laughed weakly, attempting to turn and face him. “Clearly, that’s not working.”
Lucas hesitated before trying to push off the wall a bit, although he clearly didn't know what to do. He just let himself slide on the ice until he lost momentum, at which point he just kind of stood there nervously with his toes turned inward.
Melissa had started to gain her balance better, able to push off the ice some. When she made the loop around and saw Lucas, she laughed weakly. “Need help, Lu?”
"U-Uh… I'm… I'm pretty sure I'm stuck…" Lucas laughed weakly as well, holding his arms out to try and keep his balance.
“Try carefully pushing off the ice with your feet.” Melissa offered, coming up behind him. “I’m not sure I could catch you, but I can try if you’d like the reassurance.”
Lucas hesitated before carefully trying to push off of the ice. He wobbled dangerously and yelped as he fell to the ice. "Well, that didn't work…"
Melissa laughed weakly, offering a hand to him. Though it may not have been the smartest decision. “Mm, you wanna try again, or stick to the wall for a while longer?”
"I'll uh… I'll head on back to the wall for now." Lucas carefully got himself to his feet and headed back to the wall.
Melissa nodded, watching him with a light smile. “Alright, Lu.” She hummed, carefully skating over to him. She still seemed pretty shaky, but more confident then Lucas apparently.
Lucas relaxed a bit when he was able to hold onto the wall again. "These skates are really weird… do your ankles hurt too?"
Melissa glanced down at her feet when she had a hand on the wall. “Not exactly. I mean, they’re a little uncomfortable, but they don’t really hurt right now.” She shrugged, glancing up to him.
"Mm… I'm probably doing something wrong, then." Lucas kept sliding along the wall, humming softly to himself.
Melissa nodded a little at his statement, looking down at his skates. “Are they on the wrong feet? Or the wrong size?”
"Uh… not that I'm aware of? They're just real stiff and I'm bad at this, so my ankles hurt…"
“Right… well, I mean, if you want to sit down we can. I don’t want you to be in pain.” Melissa insisted, smiling softly.
"Nah, I'm sure I'll be fine…" Lucas moved forward again, trying his best to keep control of his movements.
“You’re positive?” Melissa asked softly, watching him try to push forwards. “I really don’t mind sitting with you if it hurts.”
"Yeah, I'm fine, Mel." Lucas smiled gently over at Melissa and pushed forward again.
Melissa watched him, giving him a soft smile as he pushed along. "Alright, fine." She hummed, pushing off the wall again and slowly pushing off the ice.
After a while, Lucas started venturing out from the wall. He finally seemed to getting the hang of it.
Melissa had also started getting a better balance as she skated along the ice. She turned back to him, smiling lightly. "Hey, look at you!"
"I still have no idea what I'm doing!" Lucas laughed weakly, holding his arms out to try and keep his balance as he slid across the rink.
Melissa laughed a little more, making her way over to him. She made sure she kept some space in between them. "You're doing better, though. That's what counts, right?"
"Uhhh… yeah…?" Lucas replied tentatively, moving his arms a bit as he started losing balance.
Melissa instinctively reached out to try and catch him, giving him a soft look. "Try to relax. The less I've thought about it, the more comfortable I feel. That may just be me, though…"
Lucas nodded a bit, his heart pounding hard in his chest. He tried his best to relax, but tensed up again every time his balance wavered.
Melissa offered him a hand to hold, giving him a gentle look. "Take a deep breath, you're alright." She insisted, continuing to push off the ice.
Lucas held tightly to Melissa's hand, slowly making his way across the ice. "This looked easier than it is…"
Melissa laughed, skating along side him. "Mm, I agree on that. It's definitely a challenge."
"How are you so much better at this than I am?" Lucas asked weakly.
