"Lucas, you're already stressed out. I don't want to pile more things up on you to think about." Melissa replied in a soft tone, giving him a soft look.
"Lucas, you're already stressed out. I don't want to pile more things up on you to think about." Melissa replied in a soft tone, giving him a soft look.
"P-Please, Mel… I want you to tell me." Lucas buried his face in Melissa's shoulder again, still trembling. "I'll worry about it more if I don't know what it is…"
Melissa sighed weakly, resting her chin on top of his head. "Can… can I tell you in a little bit? I want you to be in a better state before I tell you what's been going on…"
Lucas sighed as well and reluctantly nodded. "Alright, um… I might need a few minutes, then…"
Melissa felt her shoulders relax when he gave in. "Take all the time you need. If there's anything I can do, just let me know."
Lucas nodded a little and fell silent, taking about ten minutes to get himself to relax again. "Okay, I… I think I'm alright now…"
"You're sure?" Melissa asked softly, playing with his hair still. She had been attempting to get her thoughts in order while the silence remained.
"Y-Yeah, I'm sure, Mel…" Lucas closed his eyes and relaxed into Melissa's hand a bit more, his cheeks still a bit blotchy from crying.
"I'm guessing you still want me to tell you what's been going on..?" Melissa asked softly, using her thumb to wipe away any remaining tears.
Lucas nodded a bit and sighed shakily when Melissa touched his face. "Yeah… I want you to tell me."
Melissa let out a weak huff, nodding a little. "It's really not as bad as I was making it sound…" She started softly, pressing a gentle kiss to his forehead. "Well- um… you remember how I told you Gabriel was coming home for Thanksgiving?"
Lucas nodded again, looking up at Melissa meekly. "Mhmm… did Gabriel do something bad?" He asked softly.
"Um… not exactly." Melissa let out a weak sigh, resting her head against his shoulder. "When he came home from school he… he brought a girl home with him. And um- you know how my mom was about us..?"
"Right… 'love is fake and you're both idiots'?" Lucas laughed dryly. "Was she like that with him too? Or did she just bring us up again?"
"Um… a little bit of both. Now it's his fault that we're dating, because he's 'such a bad influence on me'." Melissa rolled her eyes, keeping her head resting against him. "I didn't even know he had a girlfriend. I was just as surprised as my mom."
"Ah…" Lucas sighed softly and rested his head on Melissa's shoulder. "Sounds like her. Why is she so against dating? Did something happen to her?"
"I honestly have no clue…" Melissa mumbled weakly, keeping curled up. "She's always been that way, though. Never caring to explain what it was about."
"Mm… yeah." Lucas kissed Melissa's cheek softly. "Your mom's kinda weird, huh? I'm sure my mother would've been delighted to know that we're dating now…"
"Yeah…" Melissa sighed softly, letting a weak smile pull up when he kissed her. "You think she would have liked me? Like, really truly?"
"Well, yeah. She knew you when we were kids. She loved you, Mel." Lucas smiled gently. "She could tell I liked you, I think."
Melissa smiled softly, curling up closer. “I honestly didn’t pay much attention when I was little. And I doubt I cared very much.” She mumbled a little, kissing his cheek.
Lucas laughed weakly. "Yeah. I always had a crush on you, Mel, I just didn't really know it when I was little."
“Mm, I have to admit, I think it may have taken me a little longer to start crushing.” Melissa hummed, smiling softly. “But what matters is that I love you now, right?”
"Of course, Mel. Claus used to tease me relentlessly about how smitten I was with you, honestly."
“Mm… well I doubt he’d be teasing now. We’re happy together, and have been for a couple months.” Melissa smiled softly, nuzzling into the crook of his neck.
"Mhmm~…" Lucas held Melissa close and sighed softly. "I really love you, Mel… I don't care what anyone else thinks."
“Mm… I love you, too~” Melissa purred, her voice muffled a little with her face buried in his shoulder. “You’re the best thing I could ever ask for…”
"Mmm… well, while I highly doubt that, I'm glad you think so, Mel." Lucas kissed Melissa's cheek softly.
“Mm, why would you doubt it?” Melissa asked softly, kissing him a couple times. “I don’t doubt it for a second.”
"Well, because I'm really not all that great. I adore you and I'm so happy you love me, because I really feel like you deserve somebody who's more… emotionally stable. There's so many better people you could ask for, and you chose me."
