(I'm guessing we're gonna skip; do we want to skip a few weeks, later into December?)
(Sure :>)
(Alright, sorry for the wait.)
The days had gone rather cold, from the warm fall days a month or so ago. A light snow was powdering the ground, Melissa pulling up to the building in her dad's car. She had a gentle smile up, shutting off the car. It didn't take her long to get inside, and wait for Lucas in the room they had met up in for the last few weeks.
Though it hadn't happened in the last four weeks. Melissa had gotten so busy, and hoped to make up for it with this trip. It was only a week until Christmas, meaning only two from her birthday. She was grinning from ear to ear, coat hanging on the back of her chair.
Though they were busy, Melissa had definitely done a lot in the past few weeks. Her hair was cut just past her shoulders, pulled back out of her face so Lucas couldn't see. Not that she thought he'd care too much, but she wanted to keep it a surprise… or a secret. Though it didn't matter right now, if he wasn't here yet.
She bounced her leg in anticipation, fiddling with the edge of her sweater.
(Np!)
"Melissa!" Lucas smiled when he saw Melissa in the room, hugging her tightly once he was close enough. Cody trotted in behind him at his heels. "It's so good to see you… it's been so long. Have you been busy? Of course you have, what kinda question is that…? Uhm… here, I wrote this letter after you gave me mine." He handed the letter to Melissa, flushing a bit. "Oh! Um… and just in case you can't visit on Christmas, here's your gift." He gave her another envelope. "And one for your birthday too…" He gave her one more. "I'm sorry that they're not much, but I worked really hard on them since I can't really get much for you while I'm in here…"
Melissa laughed softly, cupping his face and kissing him sweetly to cut him off. After kissing him, she wrapped her arms around him tightly. "Gosh, mister talkative today, aren't we?" She teased a little, starting to pull back and take the letters. She kissed him once again, sitting down on the edge of her seat. "I brought you a present too, even though I'm hoping to come on Christmas." Melissa hummed, bending over to scratch behind Cody's ears. Carefully she picked up the bag she had, sliding it across the table to him. "And you don't have to apologize. I should be the one apologizing- which I am. I'm so sorry I couldn't be here sooner…"
Lucas flushed a bit and relaxed when Melissa kissed him. "Sorry, sorry… I've just missed you a lot, Mel. It's been like, a month since I've seen you…" He sighed softly and sat down in his chair, accepting the bag from Melissa. "How have you been? Good? Have you started talking to the therapist yet?" He asked.
Melissa kept up a soft smile, offering a hand for him to hold. "I've been good, yeah." She hummed softly, seeming rather relaxed, despite being excited to see him. "And yes, I've been talking to a therapist… it honestly feels so good. I feel physically and emotionally better, already. Probably not the best I can be, but it's a start. What about you? How have you been?"
"That's great, Mel! I'm glad it's helping you. I'm doing alright. Still not perfect or anything, but… better. I can use my hand a tiny bit more, but for the most part I still can't. At least I hurt my left arm and not my right." He laughed weakly. "Cody's been good… I taught him a couple tricks. Nothing special, but stuff that can help for me. He knows how to fetch my med bag and water bottles now, so…"
Melissa listened to him intently, resting her chin on both of her palms. She had a sweet smile up as he spoke, just happy to listen. "He's such a good boy… I'm glad you've been able to teach him some new stuff." She hummed a little, dropping one hand back down on the table. "I'm glad you're doing alright. I was worried you'd be upset I hadn't come to visit you… um, you aren't, are you?"
"No, no, you're busy… I understand. And I've been doing better, so it wasn't urgent or anything… I really do like seeing you, though. I get lonely all holed up in here." Lucas smiled weakly. "It's great to see you again."
"I'm glad I get the chance… school is finally on break, so maybe I'll get to come see you once or twice more this week. I still have work, but I'm sure I can come see you during the day." Melissa hummed, smiling in return.
Lucas smiled a bit more brightly at that. "Really? I'd love to see you, Mel… I miss you. Cody misses you too. I thin he likes spending so much time with me, though."
Melissa nodded a little, still smiling softly. "I've missed you, too… and Cody. I hate not getting to see my two boys." She sighed softly, sitting back in her seat. Slowly she let her little smile pick up, glancing up to him. "Well, my boy and my princess, that is."
Lucas stuck out his tongue a bit and huffed, his cheeks flushing pink. "I'm not a princess… although I guess I've got the traumatic backstory going for me."
"Mhmm… and, not to touch on sore subject, but a dead mother. All you need now is a royal blood-line, and a dress." Melissa joked, reaching for his hand. "Guess I'm your knight in shining armor, huh?"
"Mhmm. I don't think I'd look great in a dress." Lucas laughed softly. "Although I could definitely rock a tiara."
"It all depends on the kind of dress… you'll have to come prom dress shopping with me, just because." Melissa smiled, nodding at his second statement. "Mm, it'll have to have sapphires to match your eyes."
Lucas snickered a bit. "I can't afford a prom dress, darling. I'll have to spend that money renting a suit. I doubt any of the dresses would fit me anyway."
Melissa sighed dramatically, before smiling sweetly. "I guess so. But you could at least come to give me an opinion on what I should wear. Though I doubt you'll be much help."
"Alright, alright. I'll come, if only to prove you wrong. I have great taste in clothes." Lucas stuck his tongue out playfully.
"Mmm, but you'll tell me I look great in everything, Lu. I don't doubt your fashion sense, it's the fact you won't tell me if you think I look bad in something." Melissa stuck her tongue out at him in return.
Lucas rolled his eyes a bit. "Well, I guess that's true… guess you'll have to bring someone who doesn't care about your feelings, then."
Melissa laughed softly, kissing his hand. "I can still take you, but I won't be expecting to find my dress that day. Laura already insisted she's going to take me for the real-deal."
"Alright, alright. Maybe you can bring both of us. Me for emotional support, Laura for actual help."
"Mmm, maybe~" Melissa hummed, squeezing his hand a bit. "But I don't know if I want you to see my dress until night of. Isn't that like, tradition or something?"
"Mm, pretty sure that's wedding stuff, but if you really don't want me to come, I won't." Lucas smiled weakly.
"I know that, but I thought it was for prom, too…" Melissa trailed, sighing softly. "Well, we'll see when time comes. We might not even be able to go."
"Mm… I think we will. I should hopefully be out of here by the time it rolls around." Lucas sighed softly.
"I'm more thinking the money. Not only will we have to pay for the dress, and suit, we gotta buy prom tickets." Melissa sighed once more, sitting back. "But here's hoping you're out as well."
"Mm, yeah… well, I'm sure we can find some way to afford it, right?" Lucas sighed softly. "I'll have to look into it some more…"
