I’ve always preferred writing my notes in a section, subsection format using different kinds of bullet points on the way down, if that makes any sense.

@moss

Honestly im really scared for writing notes because i don't know how my new teachers are gonna do things. I went to the local high school for math class last year and the teacher I had would just give us sheets with the diagrams and problems and she'd just explain them and fill them out with us and those were our notes. They were really helpful but idk if all the teachers do that and honestly im really bad at keeping up with notes.

Idk if this is even helpful, but I take my notes in subsections too and use a crap ton of bulleted lists. I also use different colored pen for each unit so I can organize my notes. I also like to find ways to draw diagrams and doodle in my notes because I'm a very visual learner. Sometimes just adding color or formatting to my notes helps me remember them a lot better later. Also for studying, it usually helps me if I rewrite part of my notes or if they are online, make them into a powerpoint. That way you can go over your notes and get your notes organized in a way that makes sense to you.

Honestly, it’s not as bad as they make you think it’s going to be. Even in college, note taking isn’t the worst thing in the world. Most teachers will ease you into note taking. It honestly wasn’t all that intense until college.
But I do suggest learning how to shorthand your notes in a way that works for you, and don’t worry about them being pretty because you can real write them later. And good note formatting helps, but it’s not essential- as long as you jot down what you need. If you have trouble keeping up, most teachers are happy to help you figure out what you need, and if not, you can always ask a classmate to help you fill in the gaps.

Have any of you guys felt like the moment you entered the school building, time just went wack? For me it was like each minute matters, don’t be late, class ends at 10:44 and it’s 10:41 and the teacher won’t let us even get our stuff together; and yet the day dragged on and on. And then I get on the bus to go home, and it’s like the day lasted only an hour.

@croccin-champagne

at least none of you are dropping out of school yet

also, bad grades happen! they do, that's okay. if your parents are and issue thats a whole different thing and i'm very sorry, but if that's not an issue. y'all gotta understand that the thing about bad grades is, you just use that as a way to encourage yourself to get better grades the next time around. and i hope you do!

@Becfromthedead group

They do! And it's okay, as long as you push forward and learn from your mistakes. I mean, for me, the 35 was just kind of a little fuck-up. A fluke, really, because otherwise all of my grades in the class are like A's and B's. You honestly get used to messing up on quizzes, especially, as you keep going in school. I'm a third year in college, and shitty grades happen to everyone. It sucks, it feels really bad sometimes, but it's luckily not the end of the world as some may try to convince you it is.

@croccin-champagne

a quiz here and there that you get a bad score on can be from anything. a lack of studying that topic right, being too preoccupied, having a bad day. and that's totally cool lmao, there've been points where, like you bec, i've been flying through my classes and suddenly failed a quiz. it just kinda happens.

My mom has been pulling the “it’s the dang iPad!” argument a lot and ngl I kinda agree with her. Although it’s not really the iPad itself, just the feelings it brings with it I guess.
It’s really hard to focus on schoolwork when you’ve got a bunch of rps you committed to over the summer. Plus it kinda results in forgetting to take care of myself. My mom says I need a change in priorities.
And yes, I totally agree with you on the grades and I appreciate your encouragement. But the thing is, it’s the result of my forgetfulness and not turning things in. I only just remembered that I had to do an assignment that was due on Monday. And the two Ds weren’t for two assignments, they were for two classes. All because I couldn’t do the assignments or forgot about them.
Idk… between one of my rps getting deleted a few days ago and this, I’ve been feeling a lot of self loathing lately.

@croccin-champagne

fun little trick that might help, and at least least will help with those that struggle in general with procrastination:

the two minute rule. if something can be done in under two minutes, you get up and do it. it gets me off my ass to grab snacks, to sort some laundry, to take out the trash, etc. it takes a bit to get into the habit, but that's how most habit building is. once you get into it it makes life so much easier

@Becfromthedead group

Also checklists for each day. I tend to be forgetful as well and end up doing a LOT of shit the night before. It helps to be like "okay, what do we have to do today?" and just write it down.
I personally like doing it in the notes app because when you check the little box it kinda sets off those happy chemicals as you check things off.
And maybe with the rp thing, you could set up a system for every x minutes you work or x problems finished, you get one reply.

@Tired-but-passionate

(Oh, idk but @crocs-to-a-knife-fight replied the second after I did, so if you haven’t read it, my reply to your question was on the last page. Idk I got anxious about that haha)

Meanwhile, hello, I'm a burnt out gifted kid annoyed with the world and everyone in it, who gets angry when people are stupid then angry at myself for getting mad at people for being stupid and overthinks things that happened years ago. You can call me Nat.
