“I don’t care if it’s fun or not. You’re here, and that’s enough.” Melissa mumbled, holding his hand tighter. “I love you…”
“I don’t care if it’s fun or not. You’re here, and that’s enough.” Melissa mumbled, holding his hand tighter. “I love you…”
"I love you too, Mel…" Lucas gently kissed Melissa's cheek and softly sighed again. He kept one hand on Cody's head.
Melissa smiled softly when kissed, returning it with a soft sigh. "I'm being pretty dramatic right now, aren't I?"
"A little bit, but I can handle it." Lucas smiled gently as well, toying with Melissa's fingers. "I've known you for years, darling."
"Yeah, but you could always tell me to stop it. If it's bugging you, that is." Melissa hummed, loosely holding onto one of his fingers when he started to play with hers.
Lucas shrugged and hummed softly to himself. "Really, it's fine. I miss you too. I can't expect you to not be a little more exuberant than normal."
"A little?" Melissa laughed a bit, glancing up at him. "Clearly I'm not letting everything through, otherwise you'd say I was being excessive."
Lucas laughed a bit and kissed Melissa's hand. "Like I said, I've known you since we were kids. I'm used to you."
Melissa gave a gentle smile, letting him do as he please. "Mmm, I think I can still be a bit much to handle at times. Even if we have been friends since we were kids."
"True. I do love you very much, though." Lucas smiled, toying with Melissa's hand a bit more. "You're cute~…"
Melissa's face grew pink, and she pouted at him. "I love you too, but I am not." She mumbled, flicking her gaze off of him.
"I think you are. And if you're allowed to incessantly call me cute, I should be able to call you cute too."
"But it's true when it's about you… it's not for me." Melissa mumbled, folding her arm on the table to hide her face.
"Oh, come on Mel. I know there's mirrors in your house. You gotta go look in one more often, darling."
"Mirrors lie." Melissa insisted, her voice muffled by her arm. She glanced up at him, pouting a bit. "They're stupid, and don't tell the truth."
"Only if they're broken, love. Mirrors are usually mostly accurate." Lucas laughed softly. "And I don't lie to you."
Melissa huffed before burying her face out of view once again. "Nooo… I'm not cute… or attractive in any way."
"Don't be like that, Mel. I happen to think you're stunning, and I'm sure everyone else does too."
Melissa scoffed at that, looking up at him. "Yeah, sure." She muttered, sitting up with a weak sigh.
"Melissa…" Lucas sighed softly. "Please… you know I would never lie to you. I think you're gorgeous, and I always have."
"I know, I know…" Melissa mumbled, pulling her hand back to wrap around herself. "It's just… never mind…"
Lucas sighed again. "Even when we were little, I thought you were so pretty. Claus used to make fun of me for how infatuated I was with you."
Melissa was still holding onto herself, keeping her gaze off of him. "I-I just… I can't explain it, Lu… I just don't- I don't feel pretty. Or anything else you tell me. I just feel like I'm nothing- like there's no point in me being here."
"Melissa, please…" Lucas whispered. He didn't like seeing Melissa think the same way as he'd been thinking. "Is there anything I can do to help?"
Melissa shook her head, pulling her knees up to her chest. "No… there's really not…" She whispered weakly, fighting back the tears she felt coming on.
Lucas sighed and held tightly to Melissa's hand. "Well… I just… I want you to know that I absolutely adore you. You've always been so kind and understanding and patient with me, and I think you're gorgeous. I can't control whether or not you believe me, but I really am telling the truth…"
Melissa continued to try and fight back her tears, ignoring the awful feeling in her stomach best she could. "I don't deserve you…" She whispered weakly, letting him hold her hand. "Not… not even a little bit."
"You absolutely do… if anything, I don't deserve you. I mean, what have I done to deserve someone as wonderful as you? You're getting me help for all my problems! You got me a puppy and got him trained so he can stay here with me! You've always been there for me, Mel, even when everything else fell to shit. You're the only one I can fully rely on and trust."
"But- but Lu…" Melissa whispered weakly, giving him a pained expression. She felt weak as she sat here, feeling worse the longer he was talking to her about this. "I-I'm not helping you. I'm making things worse with my problems and my feeling. I-I'm probably unraveling the little good they've done to help you-" She continued rambling, a few tears running down her face.
"You're not unraveling anything, Mel. I have problems, and I have a lot of them, but that doesn't mean that you aren't allowed to need help." Lucas gently brushed away Melissa's tears with his thumb. "Do you think you can talk to your dad about this for me? It might do you some good to talk to somebody."
