It's not worth it. Don't even bother.

all the bright places is bad on every level
oh my GOD SOMEBODY ELSE HAS READ THE FEMALE OF THE SPECIES
dude that book taught me to punch and was like middle school sage's everything for a while and then for the longest time i couldnt remember the title just the cover and i tried so hard to find it and only managed to when someone posted about it somewhere and i recognized it
I READ IT THIS SUMMER AND LOVED IT!!! I've read two other McGinnis books (Heroine and Be Not Far From Me) and both were so good??? Not as good as The Female of the Species but still solid reads
djjkdfdsjk i'll have to look into those cause like a) feminist books at their best and b) that book fucking ripped me apart in the middle of the commons at school. like a dumbass i was finishing it at school before school started and i started fucking crying fdshjds
Another one of hers is on Hoopla so I want to pick it up at some point. Heroine is about heroin addiction and Be Not Far From Me is about being trapped in the wilderness.
I ranted at my dad about how much I hated Allegiant for a solid half hour while on our walk tonight, and that feels relevant to this chat due to our….feelings on Divergent.
Me: And she just kills off all the interesting characters from the first two books, like she knew the deaths in Mockingjay had impact but didn't know why!
My family members, listening to the same rant for the third time this month:
Finnick
Honestly Divergent also could've been a great allegory for neurotypical vs neurodivergent brains but alas.
Ooh that would’ve been wild.
Katniss Everdeen is the YA heroine. Fuck your Tris, fuck your Bella, fuck your Annabeth, fuck your goddamn Hermione, Katniss Everdeen is an absolute icon and anyone who says she isn't has shit taste and poor reading comprehension.
Bella fucking sucked, man. I know she was supposed to be a sort of blank slate who only reacted for girls to project onto, but she was a whiny bitch and a terrible role model for young girls who were supposed to imagine themselves as her. So maybe. Idk. Make her less terrible and obnoxious??
I genuinely can't believe that we got the Twilight spinoff or whatever this year. Also how did Meyer keep it under wraps for so long?? I swear I didn't hear anything about it til like July lmao and it dropped last week
bella had promise and I'm not gonna rant abt it right now but like. she could have been good. especially as a stoner
I only got like 200 pages into Twilight but Bella had more chemistry with the vampire girl than with Edward and that's the tea
Also Meyer legit published a genderbent Twilight waaaay after the first one came, and why??? why would you do that???
boredom I bet
or an attempt to do a JKR
It feels very "see! Bella's not weak because she's a girl!! I'm not sexist I swear!!!"
She also ended up changing two scenes (where Bella was threatened with rape by some guys and Edward fights them off and Rosalie's rape-as-backstory) to no longer be about sexual assault but about being threatened and gunpoint and nearly beaten to death so uh….some unfortunate implications there-
oof
what even is the point in doing a genderbent version of your own novel? That's basically just the same damn thing with different genders??
Money probably lol
fair enough
in other news: i'm gonna be rude to the cosmos if i don't get at least some of the classes i want for my senior year. like, come on. i'm switching schools, the least you can do is look at my nerdy list of interests and give me some of what i want. at least mythology or ancient history or world cultures or creative writing or even psychology. imma be pissed if i get none of those
I'd like to be rude to Disney for the Hercules movie because it's so inaccurate but I can't not like it because the songs are all bops
It's inaccurate but I love it anyways, Meg is the best Disney princess
My favorite Disney movie is Atlantis though, hella underrated
oh it's hella inaccurate coughzeuscough
but it's great and I enjoyed it as well. Hades is my favorite
I haven't Atlantis yet and that makes me angy but I've heard it's really good
Hades is so much fun! He's up there with Yzma as a favorite Disney villain
Also did y'all know that The Emperor's New Groove was originally supposed to be a big epic Lion King-esque story and not a buddy comedy about talking llamas?
Yeah, I think I saw that on Pinterest once
Also I'd like to be rude to my brain for having Zero to Hero and Can't Say I'm in Love on repeat all day
I've had The Devil You Know stuck in my head all day….the song slaps but still.
I haven't Atlantis yet and that makes me angy but I've heard it's really good
It's so good, I'd die for Milo Thatch without any hesitation I lomf him
Wow I missed a lot
But YES Atlantis and Hercules are amazing, but you know what will forever own my heart? Treasure Planet
I need to watch that one still!
It's on Disney+, if you have it! Otherwise good luck, it's a very hard movie to find lmao
