"Y-Yeah… everything we're doing to try and help him has backfired… I just wish I knew what to do." Nix buried his face in Halm's chest.

"I do too," Halm admitted softly. "I'm supposed to have all the answers." He put his hand on Nix's head, holding him so close.

Nix sighed. "What are we going to do for now, at least? I just… I have no idea where to go next…"

"We help Zachary. He's… He's really fucked up, Nix, and Cas, it's not going to be good for him for Zachary to be like this." He sighed as well. This was going to be tough.

Nix nodded a bit. "Alright. How do we help him, then? I'm an emotional support cat, not a doctor."

Halm let out a long breath.
"He's lost a lot of motor skills. He's… Probably going to need a wheelchair. At least until he's able to relearn how to walk. And he might have a hard time speaking. That's something we both can help with. Just help him sound things out."

"Alright…" Nix sighed, burying his face in Halm's chest. He knew how much work this was going to be. "That's not going to be great for Cas…"

Halm nodded, resting his head on Nix's.
"It won't be for either of them. We just have to help as much as we can." He looked down at the unconscious boy in their arms.
"We should lay him down," Halm said quietly.

Nix nodded a bit and got up out of Halm's lap, passing Cas off to the god. Cas didn't weigh too much, but Nix wasn't very strong and didn't want to risk dropping him.

Halm cradled Cas in his arms a moment. They'd hurt this man so much… He stood, gently laying Cas down next to Zachary. He turned back to Nix, picking him up now.
"I love you," he said gently, kissing the side of Nix's head. Halm was so… Defeated.

"I love you too…" Nix sighed, burying his face in Halm's shoulder when he was picked up. "I wish I knew how to fix this…" Cas huddled up with Zachary in his sleep.

"I wish I knew too." Zachary was still, but he seemed to be more relaxed with Cas by his side. Halm held Nix close, looking down at the two.

"Should… should we go? Even though he's asleep, I'm worried to leave Cas alone in this state… what if he hurts himself?"

Halm shook his head.
"We're not going to leave Cas alone. Even when Zachary wakes up, we can't leave. He won't be in any condition to help Cas." Halm pulled over a chair, sitting down with Nix in his lap.

"Yeah…" Nix huddled up in Halm's lap with another deep sigh, closing his eyes. "We really fucked up, didn't we?"

"We did." Halm reached up to rest his hand on Nix's head, gently running behind his ears.
"We really, really did."

Nix leaned into Halm's hand a bit, flicking his tail back and forth. "Mmmm… we have to find a way to fix it."

"All we can do for now is help Zachary get better. And next time we get an idea, we don't fucking do it." Halm sighed softly. "They only make things worse."

"Yeah… all of our ideas seem to hurt Cas somehow." Nix pushed his head up into Halm's hand.

Halm held Nix very close, nodding.
"We really need to find a better way to handle these things…"

"Yeah… I thought… I thought it would be good to get those guys out of his life. They really fucked him up."

Halm let out a breath.
"That's true. Still… We should have realized what killing someone would make Cas think about us. His terrified he would be."

"But I would never intentionally hurt him… everything I've tried to do was supposed to be for his benefit…" Nix sighed shakily.

"I know, Nix, I know. We just… We need to be even more careful. We need to make sure we don't ever hurt him again." Halm held Nix close to himself, kissing his forehead at the shaking in Nix's voice.

Nix nodded weakly and buried his face in Halm's chest again. "I c… I c-can't just keep making him go into this state… I don't want to be the reason he hurts himself."
