Melissa smiled softly, petting the top of his head before kissing him one last time. "Come get me if you need me… love you, goodnight…" She whispered, starting to walk off to her room.
Melissa smiled softly, petting the top of his head before kissing him one last time. "Come get me if you need me… love you, goodnight…" She whispered, starting to walk off to her room.
"Night, love…" Lucas huddled up in his blankets and soon drifted off into an uneasy sleep.
(Shall we skip?)
(Sure, unless you're wanting to write out the dad convo first aha)
(I mean, if you want me to, I can. It might take me a bit longer though :P)
(That's alright :>)
(Alright, I'll get that up in a couple minutes… I might incorporate the skip into that, if that's alright?)
(Alright!)
When up the stairs, Melissa sighed weakly as she pushed her door open. God, she loved him, but she was completely drained after the load of information he had given her. "Come on Melissa, you're fine." She muttered to herself, shutting her door to lean back against it. "Only a little longer, and you can let yourself break down. Lucas is going to sleep, and you're just talking to your dad. Nothing too difficult."
Sighing softly, she forced up a happy expression, pulling her door back open. Melissa swallowed down any other emotion before knocking softly on the door to her father's office. When she received a soft "come in", she pushed the office door open and quietly stepped in.
Mr. Brennahan was standing at one of the windows, holding a cup of coffee in one of his hands. When the door opened, he glanced back to see Melissa, and let a little smile up on his face. "Hey, sweetheart. Everything alright?" He asked softly, pushing off the frame of the window to come up to her. He set the mug down on the edge of his desk, coming around to the other side. Melissa nodded in return, standing in front of him with a soft smile.
"Yes, sir. I just… Lucas wanted me to talk to you… about something." She mumbled, trying to hold herself together. With that said, Mr. Brennahan grew concerned, his brow furrowing. "Is he alright?"
Melissa glanced up at him, going to tell him yes as her immediate response. But as she studied his face, she felt the need to tell him the whole truth. With a heavy sigh, she shook her head before dropping her gaze. "Honestly, no, he's not… he needs so much help, dad. His life is so screwed up- just today he was insisting he didn't deserve to be happy. He thought it was his fault his father beat him. I- I don't know what to do for him… he keeps hurting himself- and… and his nightmares are awful, and- and I just-" Mr. Brennahan cut her off, pulling her into a hug. "Hey, shhh… honey, take a deep breath."
Gently he rubbed circles into her back, trying to get her to calm down. The simple action was soothing enough for her to set her thoughts straight, and gather her emotions. But as soon as she pulled back and saw his face, she felt herself choke a little.
"What did you come up here for, specifically?" Mr. Brennahan asked softly, holding her face in his hands. Melissa sucked in a deep breath, finding her words before starting to talk. "He… he hurt himself again… he wanted me to tell you…" Her voice was soft, barely loud enough for him to hear by this point. "He… he's alright, though… he fixed himself up, before I could come to help."
"Alright… and what was this about being happy? What did he say?" Mr. Brennahan asked, taking her hands and leading her over to the other side of the desk. Sitting himself in the desk chair, he pulled her to sit on his lap, wrapping an arm around her to bring her closer.
"I… um… well, he- he said he didn't deserve it. He said something about doing something wrong, and not deserving it…" Melissa mumbled, resting her head on his shoulder.
Mr. Brennahan sighed softly, kissing her forehead when she rested her head on his shoulder. "I'm assuming you tried to tell him otherwise?" He asked softly, receiving a nod from Melissa in return. "But he didn't believe you?"
"Not really, no sir." Melissa whispered, curling up closer. Mr. Brennahan nodded a little, keeping an arm around her. "Right…" With that, he fell quiet to think over what she had said.
The silence only continued to grow, as Melissa let him just rub her arm in a comforting manner. With his thoughts in place, Mr. Brennahan kissed her forehead softly. "Is that all you had to tell me? Because I can let you get up, and go to bed if you want." He offered in a soft tone, starting to play with her hair a little. Melissa gave a little smile, glancing up to her father.
"That was all… I- um, I am kinda tired. If it's all the same to you, I'll head to bed." Melissa whispered, starting to sit up and get off of his lap. "I love you, thank you for being here."
Mr. Brennahan gave a soft smile, nodding a bit as they both stood up. "Of course, sunshine. You need sleep, it's good for you. I love you too. I'll see you in the morning." Mr. Brennahan smiled softly, kissing her forehead one last time before letting her go. "Sleep tight, Melissa." He whispered, picking up his coffee mug, watching as she started out of his office.
Melissa pulled the office door shut, before quickly making her way into her room. She stripped her bed of it's blankets, and a pillow or two to carry with her down the stairs. She had a feeling tonight might be a rough night, and thought sleeping in the same room as him might be best. So she quietly set everything up, before curling up under her blanket and drifting off to sleep.
When the sun rose the next morning, Melissa was still sound asleep, curled into an odd position on the floor. Cody was rather confused, having hoped off the couch to nose at Melissa on the living room floor.
(Oof, that took a long time.)
Lucas had slept fitfully through the night, nightmares riding his thoughts, but never quite waking him. He'd tried to wake up so many times, but he was trapped in his mind. By the time he managed to wake up in the morning, he was shaky, cold, and clammy, and his face was very pale. He sat up with a shaky sigh, ran his fingers through his hair, and froze when he noticed Melissa on the floor. "M… Melissa…?" He asked softly. "W-What are you doing on the floor? Are you okay? How did it go with your dad?" He picked up Cody so that the puppy would leave Melissa alone.
(Oof, sorry mine is nowhere near as long lol)
(Pfft, it's fine. I had like, seven paragraphs.)
As soon as she heard her name, Melissa started to stir from her place. She glanced around the room when she woke up, seemingly quite confused momentarily. Slowly she flicked her gaze over to him, starting to wake up more at the sight of his face. "Hmmm?" She muttered confused, starting to sit up from her place. If she could have helped it, she would have kept from flinching as pain shot through her head. Besides the quick action, she didn't react much more than that. "What?"
(Lmao yeah. It was really good though <3)
"Why are you on the floor?" Lucas repeated softly, still very pale and pretty shaky. "Are you okay? And… um… how did it go with your dad, by the way? What did he say?" He asked. "Um… does he think that I should…? Y-You know…"
(Ahh, thank you. I tried to make it worth the wait, eheh.)
Melissa rubbed at her eyes, glancing up at him. "Mm, I thought you'd be more willing to wake me, if I was right besides you… in case you had nightmares. I'm fine." Melissa mumbled, pinching the bridge of her nose. "And it was fine last night. He didn't tell me what he thought… just kinda sent me to bed."
"Um… O-Okay… I don't think I woke up at all, actually, but I… uh… I definitely remember some nightmares…" Lucas sighed shakily, fidgeting a bit with his hands. "But that's not important… we need to get ready for school."
"Mm, school? I thought it was Sunday?" Melissa asked weakly, looking up to him. For a good night's sleep, she was still pretty exhausted. "I don't want it to be Monday… can't we just skip Monday?"
"Pretty sure it's Monday… I could be wrong, though." Lucas sighed running his fingers through his hair. "Even though I didn't wake up, I feel like U hardly slept at all… I'm exhausted…"
Melissa muttered complaints under her breath, starting to push up off the floor. "Mm, you said you had nightmares… that normally keeps a person from actually sleeping good." She mumbled, offering him a hand when she was on her feet. "If it is Monday, we should probably get ready."
Lucas accepted her hand and nodded. "I… um… I'll go get dressed. Then we can get breakfast and go…"
“Mm, do you wanna go out for breakfast instead? We could go get coffee.” Melissa offered in a soft tone, pulling him closer to herself.
"Sure…" Lucas rested his head against Melissa's with a shaky sigh. "Anywhere in particular you're thinking of?" He asked.
“No, not really. I just know we’re both tired, and coffee sounds good. We might as well get breakfast while we’re out.” Melissa shrugged, giving him a soft kiss. “If we have time, you can talk to me about last night? Only if you want to.”
"Um… what about last night in particular?" Lucas asked, gently returning the kiss. "Like… about the nightmares or about your conversation with your dad?"
“Well, I was talking about your nightmares. But either thing is fine.” Melissa shrugged, resting her head against him. “Though last night’s conversation wasn’t that eventful.”
"Yeah, you already kinda talked about it… but anyways, the nightmares weren't really anything different than usual, to be honest… just people dying, the rope thing…"
“Mm… right…” Melissa mumbled with a soft sigh, hugging him a little tighter. “Do you think you’ll be alright to get ready?”
Lucas nodded, resting his head against Melissa's. "Yeah… I'll try to be as quick as possible, alright?" He went to go grab his clothes.
“If I’m done before you, I’ll knock on the door to check on you.” Melissa mumbled, starting towards the stairs after gathering her blankets. “If that’s okay.”
"Alright." Lucas headed into the bathroom to change and came back out within a couple of minutes, waiting for Melissa by the door.
