Lachy looked over for a moment before he went back to staring at the ceiling, "Fair enough, I get that." He'd been the same for a while, but for Lachy it was more he was scared people were going to turn out like his parents and brother, so he stayed away from most.
“People..they can change so quickly. I hate that. They’re unpredictable, and pretty much always betray you. The only good thing about this place is if someone ends up betraying you, you know that one of you will die sooner or later, so it doesn’t even matter.” He said this all rather nonchalantly, picking at the skin around his nails.
Lachy swallowed, the thought didn't sit well with him but he knew Aidan was right, "Everyone is so two-faced these days… even the people you think you can trust. I just… want to get out of here," He said softly, "Not that the outside world is any better.. but maybe better then in here." A lie.
“I’ve been trying to get out of here for the last nine months, but as you can see I’m still here.” He smiled sadly. “It’s funny, I think I’m the only one who actually wants to go back to being normal.” And by normal, Aidan of course meant back to being straight.
Lachy frowned at that, "But… you've been given a gift, though. We all have. How would you want to give that up just to fit in with the rest of this messed up world?" Even though Lachy didn't like being here, he hated it to his core, but he knew he couldn't change who he was. He liked guys and everyone else, he wasn't going to try and change that. It was who he was.
“I never wanted this. I fucked up everyone’s lives with my ‘gift.’ Accidentally sent three guys to the hospital.” He laughed bitterly. “You know what, I don’t even know why I’m telling you this.” And with that, he went back to his silence. He’d gone from nice and friendly to bitter very quickly.
Lachy sighed through his nose. He was going to reply but decided against it, not when Aidan had turned bitter in a matter of seconds. So much for any chance of a friendship. He honestly felt… slightly sad at the thought but he quickly pushed that away and closed his eyes. If they weren't going to talk he might as well rest.
After maybe of thirty seconds of silence he spoke up again, his voice back to being gentle. “I’m sorry, I’m just really stressed right now, and it makes me more snappy than normal. You’re right, it is a gift. And I don’t want them to take it from me”
Lachy rubbed at his face with both hands, leaving them there for a moment, "You can't just change who you are. we were born this way for a reason and now we just have to live with the fact that… we're different and some people don't agree with it."
“I know.” He said softly, laying back down on the bed, staring up at the ceiling. He’d always known that, deep down. But the more overpowering voice in his head was the one telling him he shouldn’t feel the way he did about guys. And that he shouldn’t be different, that different was bad. He let out a small sigh.
Lachy closed his eyes again, trying to focus on calming his breathing. He started to shiver, clearly they'd turned on the air conditioning to see if it had any effect on Aidan since well, fire and all. Unfortunately for Lachy, he was majorly effected by the cold and curled up to preserve his body heat.
Aidan on the other hand, was completely fine. He could tell that they’d turned on the air conditioning, but he wasn’t really cold. However, he quickly noticed that Lachy wasn’t as lucky. “Hey, are you okay?” He asked, his voice filled with concern.
Lachy nodded, quickly draping the sweater over his body to hopefully stop the shivering, "Fine. Just a little cold." He mumbled. He was more then just a little cold but he wouldn't admit it nor would be accept any help. He'd be just fine, eventually.
“You seem more than just a little cold.” He replied. Yet again he was back to sounding worried, none of his anger from before remained in his voice. “Hopefully we’ll get this over with soon.” While his anxiety about this whole experience had lessened a bit, that didn’t change the fact that he didn’t want to be here.
"I'm fine, Aidan," Lachy said a little firmer then intended. He wanted to go back to their room, if you could even call it that. It was better then being in here, watched like a lab rat, "I just wanna get outta here…" He sighed, curling up a little more.
“Me too..how long do you think they’ll keep us here?” He was sure Sterling wouldn’t be happy if the ‘medication’ didn’t work the first try. He’d honestly not be surprised if he kept just giving them more and more of it until their powers stopped or their bodies overdosed on the serum.
He shrugged a shoulder, rolling onto his side so he was facing Aidan, "I dunno… not for much longer I don't think," He bit his lip, thinking for a moment before he spoke again, "Do- Do you powers still work?" He asked, worry coating his features. If they didn't then…
“As far as I can tell, yeah. I mean, I’m not cold or anything so they must still be working.” He had to admit that he was relieved that they were still there. “How about you? Feel any different yet?” He hoped the serum hadn’t taken Lachy’s powers away either.
Lachy shook his head, "I don't think so. Just cold.. and tired." He admitted. At least that was a good sign for the both of them. But if the serum was just taking a while to take hold then it could end badly. He felt his heart speed up at the thought.
“That’s good then I guess…” he went quiet, staring up at the ceiling. He couldn’t help but feel like they wouldn’t be able to get out of this easily. He just had to hope for the best, hope that Sterling would grow tired with the results and send them away. But that was highly unlikely.
The two of them were in the lab for a very long time. Probably for four hours maybe,. being constantly watched and monitored. Luckily it didn't seem like the serum had had any effect which was good news for them, however not so much for Sterling. Eventually, he came back in, clearly displeased, "You are both free to go."
Instantly, Aidan felt a huge wave of relief wash over him, for more reasons than just one. He looked over at Lachy quickly, having to resist the urge to smile. He stood up, pulling his shirt back on, and would wait for Lachy to pull his sweater back on before he’d head out the door.
((I have to yeet for like thirty minutes but then I should be back))
Lachy was very quick pulling his sweater back on, pulling the sleeves as far down as they would go and hiding his hands in the fabric. He instantly looked less tense (and less cold). He looked to Aidan, looking relieved before he headed to the door and towards their room.
(okay, I maybe asleep then but I'll be back normal time)
“Seems like we got off easy.” He said as soon as they got back to their room. His hands had finally stopped shaking. He sat down on the edge of his bed. Now that they weren’t in a life or death situation, they didn’t necessarily need to talk to each other. But Aidan really wanted to. He felt like he needed to prove himself to Lachy for some reason.
"They'll be back," Lachy said, flopping down on us bed with a sigh, "Once they find something else to test on us." He hugging his pillow to his chest, closing his eyes. There was something strange about Aidan. He didn't want to trust him but yet he did. He wanted to stay away and yet he didn't. The mixed feelings made him frown.
He sighed. “You’re probably right.” He rolled over on his side, watching Lachy. Somehow, Aidan had already become so attached to him. He’d never become that clingy that quickly before. He didn’t know what was so different about Lachy that made him feel this way.
Lachy opened his eyes open when he felt Aidan looking at him, raising a brow in a silent question but he didn't speak. Not that he minded, but he suddenly felt so aware of what he looked like and how he was acting and it was so strange. He'd never felt this way about anyone so fast and he wasn't sure if he liked it.
Aidan was like ‘oh shit’ and quickly started staring at the ceiling. ‘Well that was awkward…’ he thought to himself. He mumbled out a quick “sorry.” He desperately tried to think of something to say to make the whole scenario less awkward.
"It's okay," He replied quietly, the tiniest hint of a smile flitting across his lips. He was quiet again for a moment, going back to closing his eyes and hugging the pillow before he spoke up again, "Why did you… first find out you had.. you know…" He swallowed, "Fire powers?"
“Uhh…” he squinted, trying to think back to when he was outside of the Facility. “I think two or three months before I got here. So I’ve had them for about a year now I guess. They were kind of scary at first honestly. I kept thinking that I was actually going to burn my hand or something. But the fire resistance apparently comes with it so that’s good.”
