Lysander frowned and took James's hand, keeping him from grabbing the cactus.
"No, Jamie, that's sharp," he said with mock seriousness, "It's only for us older kids. Nathaniel, are you sure you're alright?" He felt like he had a responsibility to look after the younger boy, and he didn't want him to be wandering around with his hand all burned.
(holy shit Lysander is the oldest isn't he)
James whined unhappily when he was stopped, squirming in Lysander's lap and trying to reach and get the cactus again. He stuck some of his fingers in his mouth, still reaching for it. It was shiny, and he wanted to play. He didn't understand why Lysander wouldn't let him.
"Yeah, I get burns like this all the time. I should be used to it by now." Nathaniel fidgeted a bit, keeping his eyes on the burn. It looked painful, but he was trying his best to ignore it. "I've felt way worse pain than this. It shouldn't really be bothering me."
Lysander stood up, hoisting James onto his shoulders.
"No cactus, Jamie, it's too dangerous," he scolded. "Why don't we go for a walk?" He turned to Jax and Nathaniel.
"I'll go ask Nich if he can wire the cactus!" he added with excitement.
(Dammit Maddie don't make me sad :()
Neige stared at the cactus with intense curiosity. "How… did you make something this intricate… without magic?" Her voice billowed out of her mouth along with her cloudy breath, as usual for an Eju. She held back from touching the metal cactus, opting to not coat Nathaniel's invention in a layer of unmitigated frost. Her gaze shifted to the creator, her pale yellow eyes sparkling with wonder and ice particles. It's obvious that she hasn't registered a single word of outside conversation since the cactus arrived.
Nathaniel looked up at Neige curiously when she questioned him. "Um… with fire and metal, I guess. I've also got a bunch of little tools and stuff to help me make them." He turned his attention back to Lysander. "And a walk sounds great…" He hoisted himself up onto his feet and swayed a bit as his vision went black, slowly returning after a few seconds. He still looked drained and unsteady. It had been a long day for him and it wasn't even over yet.
Lysander's cheeks went red when he looked at Neige.
"Well-I'm-going-to-go-find-Nich-bye!" Lysander rambled, nearly running into the door frame in his haste. He stood with his back straight so James could see, and walked to a window. "Look, Jamie. Isn't it pretty out there?"
James squeaked unhappily when he was denied the cactus, but his eyes went big as he saw the view from the window. He cooed softly, leaning forward to lean against the window.
"A walk sounds great!" Jax giggled as she stood up. As Nathaniel swayed, the girl cast a worried glance at him. "Nathaniel, how about I get you some chocolate milk, then you can take a nap?" Jax, knowing full well how much the angel liked 'choccy milk', decided that he'd probably accept her offer.
(narrating a baby is harder than I thought)
"Mmkay…" Nathaniel stuck close to Jax while he walked, figuring that out would be best to be near the the healer if he happened to collapse. "I'm probably just dehydrated… I've been working all day, and I can't remember if I stopped to eat or anything. My head's really fuzzy. Is that bad?" He asked, his voice soft and reserved.
"Bye…?" Neige slightly tilted her head in confusion. Lysander was such an odd human. Not bad, just odd. She quickly stood up from her crouched position and decided to follow him and the baby, though a few steps behind as to not accidentally freeze the poor toddler. She'd already done so before, she didn't want to repeat the mistake, especially with Althea not around. "So… what exactly are you… going to ask Nich?"
"You should eat somethin'. And drink some water, too. Maybe some fruit, to get your blood sugar up? And protein, too. Chicken nuggets?" Jax wrapped an arm around Nathaniel's shoulders, steadying the angel as she guided him to the kitchen.
Nathaniel nodded a bit, allowing Jax to drag him along. "Yeah… sounds good to me." He sat down on a stool once they were in the kitchen and rested his forehead against the cold countertop, sighing softly. He knew that he wasn't allowed to cook anymore after he very nearly set fire to the kitchen, so he figured he'd just let Jax do it.
"O-oh!" Lysander squeaked. "Just, er, if he could wire anything into the cactus. I-I thought it could be….neat…."
His face went redder than before, blushing all the way up to his ears. "D-do you like…mechanics?"
Stars, he was doing this badly. He mentally banged his head against a wall, but kept a smile.
Jax opened the kitchen's freezer, pulling out some frozen chicken nuggets in the shape of what the box advertised as 'dinosaurs'. To Jax, they resembled giant lizards, at least the cartoons on the box did. She preheated the oven as the instructions said, and when it was hot enough, slid a baking tray of chicken nuggets inside. She found a bowl of fresh fruit on the counter, and grabbed one, tossing it to Nathaniel. She then poured the angel a tall glass of cold water, followed by a glass for herself.
"The chicken nuggets'll be ready soon, but you can have fruit for now. When you finish that water, I'll make some chocolate milk, alright?"
Peregrine wandered the halls of the ship, trying to memorize the layout of the place. She ran into Lysander, with James atop his shoulders, speaking with Neige.
"Hello, Lysander. James. And-" Peregrine's pale face gained a tiny bit of redness, but her blush soon disappeared. "And Neige," the pirate concluded.
"Mmkay… thanks, Jax." Nathaniel took a bite of the apple he'd been tossed and started drinking his glass of water. He seemed to be feeling slightly better after he finished the glass of water, and he continued eating his apple. "When will nuggets be ready?" He asked, looking up at Jax curiously.
(lmao "Do you like mechanics?" Lysander sTOP)
Neige couldn't help but giggle at Lysander's question. "I guess. I like what… mechanics do. But I also like… seeing their faces after I… freeze their projects… like a popsicle," she said, her breath catching in her throat as she heard Peregrine–the girl's sudden surprise arrival startled her. "Hello…" was all she managed to get out before Lysander took the reins of the conversation. Not being content with staying still, she took off down the hallway, calling out, "There's snow time to waste! C'mon!"
(shit, didn't see Ash's response. lemme edit really quick)
(edit: okay we're good now lmao)
"Hi Peregrine!" Lysander said. He reached up and grabbed James's hand, helping him to wave. "What're you doing? Oh! Has Nathaniel shown you his cactus?" He chewed on his bottom lip, rocking back and forth on his feels, which James seemed to enjoy. "We were going to see if Nich could wire it up, if you want to come?"
James waved, then returned his attention to the window, sucking contentedly on his fingers.
Jax checked the timer on the oven. "About ten more minutes. That includes cooling time, though." The doctor opened the fridge, grabbing a jug of milk and a bottle of chocolate sauce. She poured the milk into another glass, and stirred in a generous amount of chocolate sauce. She set the chocolate milk in front of Nathaniel, exchanging it for the empty glass.
"I was merely getting my lay of the land," Peregrine replied. "The angel boy made a cactus? Interesting. It'd be intriguing to see how Nich will wire it. I'll come with you." Peregrine's hand rested on her belt, where her sword was sheathed. She didn't feel threatened at all by the present company, she could beat two, if not all of them in a fight, however, it helped her feel comfortable, knowing that if danger arose, she could strike back in an instant.
"Mmm… okay. Thanks for choccy milk…" He mumbled tiredly, picking up the glass and starting to drink the milk. He fluttered his wings a bit and started purring almost inaudibly while he did so, seeming to be content for the moment. His stomach growled angrily, but he ignored it. He'd be having food soon anyways.
"Ah! Yes! Snowtime," Lysander giggled, then blushed an even deeper shade of red. "Er, wait for me!" He took off after Neige, careful not to drop James.
He knocked loudly on the boiler room door when he arrived, and he heard a metallic thud, followed by a loud stream of curses and more clattering. Nich opened the door, smoke billowing out. His face was almost as red as his hair, which was currently sticking out in multiple different directions. He pushed his goggles up, which left lighter rings around his eyes, not unlike a raccoon.
"Oh, uh, hey kids," he said. "You weren't really supposed to hear any of that, but it's fine." There was another loud hiss and clank, and he winced. "Unlike the landing gear, which is….not fine. Unless you're about to go talk to Amira, in which case the landing gear is absolutely fine."
His world was at peace.
Which was rather boring for Ark, who thrived in chaos - generally, chaos he caused. The Bazur was in his own pocket dimension, simply ‘scanning’ for ships to transport himself to, and check it out a little. One may consider that weird, and even more so if Ark told you if it was his idea of fun - for Ark, jumping to a random ship was quite interesting and could prove for an adventure. Especially if it was a completely blank slate, with the ship inhabitants being unaware of who or what you are. How fun!
A ping within mind came, and Ark decided, after a while - that he’d transport himself to the BC Orion. Quite a fine looking ship; from what Ark could get from his mediation. He was only able to see a thin outline of the structure he’d be going to, not the full picture. Which could be risky. But risks were fun!
Standing up, Ark cleared some sand from his coat and lifted his arms, readying himself. In a second, Ark vanished in a brief but bright flash of red light.
It was only a few seconds later did Ark reappear, deep down in one of the storage rooms of the ship. Letting his arms fall to his sides, Ark peered around, not yet seeing anyone. Shame. He mused in his mind.
From his previous detections, there looked to be quite a few aboard the ship. Ark glanced around, deciding to inspect the storage. See what sort of ship this was; what they had and if they were bringing anything anywhere. Ark wasn’t going to steal anything, just get a feel for his surroundings before setting out.
Neige finally stopped at the door of the boiler room, waiting for Lysander and Peregrine, and James, to catch up. Her light trail of frost following her melted rather quickly, the heat from the surrounding area quickly thawing whatever extra ice her presence excreted. Neige was brought out of her head at the sound of, presumably the landing gear, clanking and crashing within Nich's workspace. "Oh… we were wondering if… you could wire Nathaniel's… latest invention," she pointed to the cactus Lysander was holding.
James cooed softly from his perch on Lysander's shoulders, babbling happily as he played with the teen's hair, blinking innocently at Nich.
