Halm wrapped his arms around Nix securely, letting out a slightly shaky breath.
"I-I know… I just…"
Halm wrapped his arms around Nix securely, letting out a slightly shaky breath.
"I-I know… I just…"
"Shh… it's not your fault. You've done nothing wrong. Everything you've done has been for him, Halm. You've done him so much good. The bad just looks really big in comparison, but you can't forget about the good."
Halm nodded a little, breathing deeply to stay calm. Now wouldn't be the time for a break down.
"B-But… There had been so much bad…"
"Shhh… try not to focus on the bad. Just think about how you can make it better, yeah? You can't change the past, but you have the power to make the future better."
Halm was mute, leaning his head against Nix lightly.
"I…" He shook his head a little, holding Nix close.
"All we can do at this point is try and make things better for him. We can't change his past." Nix ran his fingers through Halm's hair to try and calm him down.
Halm let out a long breath, closing his eyes as he leaned into Nix.
"… Alright. Alright." He pulled away a bit, looking down at Nix.
Nix smiled weakly. "We're not perfect, but we're all he's got. We've got to be the best we can be for his sake."
"You're right." Halm let out another shaky breath. "We're going to do everything we can to keep him safe."
Nix nodded a bit, keeping up his weak smile. "And even if he pushes us away, we'll stay by his side and make sure he takes care of himself."
"Yeah…" Halm fell quiet. "I just hope he had the right decision, with Zachary. I just intended for Zachary to watch Cas while he slept too keep him safe, not…"
"I know, I know… I agree that it's gotten a bit out of hand, but we want the best for Cas. He's gotten attached to Zachary and he makes him feel better. We can't take that from him, even if we don't necessarily approve."
Looking away a little, Halm nodded.
"I know we can't. And I get that Zachary won't hurt him… Probably. It's just… He's been hurt but so many people."
"I know that better than anyone, Halm. And you know Zachary better than I do, but he doesn't seem like he would try anything like that. Cas trusts him so much… we just have to hope for the best."
Halm nodded mutely.
"Zachary is a good kid," he admitted. "But even he could accidently just Cas." He let out a long sigh.
"I'll hope for the best, yes. But I'll prepare for the worst."
Nix nodded a bit. "We can have another conversation with him to ensure he'll be as careful as possible. We can't afford to let Cas get hurt again."
"And we will. I can't let him get hurt again, period." Halm put his hand on Nix's head lightly.
"Thank you."
"No problem. Do you feel any better?" Nix asked, smiling softly as he leaned into Halm's hand.
"Yes, much better," Halm said, letting a weak smile slip out. He rubbed Nix's head a little. It helped, showing Nix affection like this.
"Good to know that I've still got it." Nix grinned now brightly and turned his ears back, closing his eyes. "It's technically my job. I don't get paid, though."
Halm chuckled a little, his own smile growing.
"That makes two of us who aren't paid. But that doesn't make our jobs any less important."
"True." Nix nuzzled into Halm's hand and sighed. "I'll just have to get better at my job so I can help Cas…"
Halm rubbed Nix's head lightly.
"And you will. We'll both get better at helping Cas."
"Mhmm…" Nix yawned a bit and huddled close, purring quietly. "We'll try our best, anyway…"
Halm wrapped his arms around Nix's waist lightly, smiling gently.
"You'll be able to do it," he encouraged.
"I hope you're right, Halm." Nix huddled close and purred happily.
Halm smiled softly, nodding.
"I do too." He scratched the top of Nix's head lightly.
Nix kept purring, clearly enjoying the attention. "We'll have to make sure that Cas is taking care of himself. Knowing him, he's not going to want to eat or bathe or anything. Especially because of the new trauma tied to water."
(Gloria still in Halm's pocket: ok if y'all are doing this sexual sounding thing, can I be let out now or…?)
(Gloria the pocket sized therapist… Kinda wish I had a Gloria rn…)
