"You call that dramatic?" Melissa teased, settling herself up against him. "But really, I understand not wanting to go to school. It seems quite pointless to me."
"You call that dramatic?" Melissa teased, settling herself up against him. "But really, I understand not wanting to go to school. It seems quite pointless to me."
Lucas shrugged a bit. "Technically we don't need most of it, but you know… you need it in order to get an actual job."
"We can fake it. We know enough by now, can't we just skip the rest of this year, and next year?" Melissa mumbled, slowly setting Cody in her lap.
"Unfortunately no, love. You need a diploma for it to count." Lucas smiled weakly and kissed Melissa's cheek.
"Can't we like… fake that, too?" Melissa mumbled, resting her head on his shoulder. "Y'know, just make one, and pretend?"
"Pretty sure that's illegal, darling." Lucas laughed softly. "Can't get a job if we're in jail."
"Don't have to pay taxes, if we're in jail." Melissa mumbled, nuzzling in to his shoulder. "And no one can bug us, besides our 'cell-mates'."
"But they wouldn't put us together, Melissa. And I'd get destroyed. You know I wouldn't last in jail."
"Mm… but we wouldn't be in jail yet. We're underage, so we'd be in juvenile detention until eighteen… I don't actually want to go to jail, though. I'd rather suffer in school for the next… seven-ish years."
"Yeah…" Lucas sighed. "Not looking forward to that. I'll mostly be doing sports in college, though. Maybe I'll get into one of the big baseball teams."
"Mm, and you'll be an excellent player. As long as you work hard, I don't really have any doubt about you making it." Melissa hummed softly, giving him a smile.
Lucas flushed a bit and looked away, unable to keep from smiling a bit. "I-I hope you're right, Mel…"
“I’m positive I’m right. I reserve the right to say I told you so when the time comes.” Melissa hummed softly, pecking his lips.
"Alright, alright… you'll be waiting a long time, Mel." Lucas laughed softly and returned the kiss. "Years."
Melissa smiled softly, holding his face in one of her hands as she gently ran her thumb over his face. "I can wait. But trust me, if that's what you really want in life, all you have to do is work for it. And then it's yours."
Lucas nodded a bit, smiling gently. "I know… I love you, Mel." He pulled her closer to kiss her.
Melissa leaned in as well, kissing him softly. When she pulled back she couldn't keep from beaming. "I love you too, darling."
Lucas returned the kiss and flushed at the pet name, burying his face in Melissa's shoulder with his heart pounding.
"What? You didn't like the nickname?" Melissa hummed, kissing the top of his head. The longer she sat here, the more she wanted to stay with him.
"I-I'm just… um… I'm not used to being on this side of that pet name…" Lucas stammered softly, keeping his face hidden.
"Mm… I can avoid using them, if you preferred. Though I'll have to admit, I'd be a little sad." Melissa mumbled, mindlessly playing with his hair.
"No, no, it's okay… you just… took me by surprise." Lucas relaxed into Melissa's hand, smiling softly.
"Alright… I don't want to upset you." Melissa mumbled a little, nuzzling into him a little. "Should I be going to bed?"
"If you want to. I don't mind either way." Lucas shrugged and sighed softly. "I'm fading, though…"
Melissa sighed softly, kissing the top of his head a few times. "Then I should probably get up… I'm gonna get Cody something to eat, and then head upstairs. Is that alright, with you?"
"Mhmm… that's fine." Lucas returned the kisses, though his movements were slow and soft. "He's asleep, though…"
"I know, but just in case he gets up in the middle of the night. I don't want to starve him." Melissa smiled softly, picking Cody up off her lap and standing up.
"Alright, Lucas took Cody from Melissa and curled up on his side, yawning. The puppy lay right up against the curve of his body.
Melissa gave him a little smile, leaning down to kiss his forehead. "Love you, sleep tight."
"Love you too…" Lucas pulled the blanket over himself, closed his eyes, and soon drifted off to sleep with Cody in his arms.
