"Mm, it's not like we're going to bed. Only napping." Melissa mumbled, wrapping her arms around his waist to pull him close. "I'd like it if you stayed… but you don't have to."
"Mm, it's not like we're going to bed. Only napping." Melissa mumbled, wrapping her arms around his waist to pull him close. "I'd like it if you stayed… but you don't have to."
"True, I just… don't want you to get in trouble because of me, Melissa." Lucas sighed softly.
"Technically, it wouldn't be because of you. I want you to stay. I didn't tell you to go down stairs. So if I get in trouble, it's my own fault." Melissa mumbled, shrugging a little.
"I don't want you to get in trouble regardless, Melissa. I care about you too much to let that happen."
"I can take it, Lu. If anything, I'll get grounded. It's not like they'll kick me out of the house." Melissa told him softly, still holding on to him tightly.
"I know, I know…" Lucas sighed, pulling Melissa closer. He just knew that he'd feel incredibly guilty if Melissa got in trouble for this.
Melissa leaned in to him, resting her chin on his shoulder. "If you're really worried, I can let you go. I promise you, though, everything will be fine."
"If you say so, Mel…" Lucas closed his eyes, forcing himself to relax a bit. He couldn't help but still be nervous, though.
Melissa gave a light smile, nuzzling in to him. "I do say so. If anything happens, I don't want you to worry about it."
Lucas nodded, slowly relaxing. He seemed to be growing close to drifting off to sleep. Cody was already fast asleep by now.
When Lucas didn't respond, Melissa left the silence as is. She was ready to sleep, and Lucas seemed decently content for the time being. It didn't take her long to slip in to a state of unconsciousness.
Lucas drifted off to sleep soon after Melissa, holding her closet and finally relaxing.
(Skip?)
(Exactly what I was thinking, lol. When to?)
(Mmm either to one of his parents stumbling upon them or them waking up?)
(That works with me.I'm tempted to have Melissa's mother come in, though…)
(Do it lol)
As an hour or so had passed, soft voices could be heard out Melissa's door. "I'm pretty sure they're still in Melissa's room." Mr. Brennahan told his wife, seemingly distracted with what he was working on. "I haven't really heard much from them. I've been a little busy here." Glancing up at her, he gave a weak smile. "I'm sure they're fine." When he started back on his work, Mrs. Brennahan briskly made her way out of his office to Melissa's door. Knocking lightly, she pushed it open and half froze. "What in the- Melissa." She snapped a little, pushing it open further. When it hit the wall, Melissa jerked awake, looking over to her mother concerned. "I- w-what?"
Lucas remained fast asleep, only stirring slightly out the loud noise. Cody looked up at Mrs. Brennahan sleepily, yawning a bit with a soft whine.
"What in the world are you doing?" Mrs. Brennahan asked coolly, giving Melissa a stern look. Melissa stayed quiet, glancing down at Lucas. Sighing weakly, she climbed off the bed (quite awkwardly at that) to come up to her mother. "I can explain- just… don't tell him you saw us. He was already nervous about it, I don't want him to worry more." She whispered, giving her mother a pleading look. With a slight huff, Mrs. Brennahan nodded before pointing out her door. "Down stairs. In the living room, now." With the instructions, Melissa nodded a little, starting down the hallway.
Cody hopped off the bed and padded after them quietly, carefully making his way down the stairs. Lucas stirred again, but remained asleep. He sighed quietly in his sleep and curled up a bit more.
When Melissa has made her way down the stairs, and sat down on the couch, she caught sight of Cody and sighed softly. “Well?” Mrs. Brennahan started, expecting Melissa to explain. “I-um… I guess I just have to tell you the truth.” Melissa whispered, unable to keep her gaze trained on one thing. “Me and Lucas… we're kind of- a thing. And… I just- I don’t know. We were only napping, and I asked him to stay.” Dropping her gaze down to the floor, she kept her distance from her mother standing over her. “And you didn’t think to ask permission, of me or your father? Because clearly you’re not ready for a relationship, and you know we would have told you no. You’re not responsible enough. After what happened a couple weeks ago, I’m not sure I can trust you.” Mrs. Brennahan snapped, glaring down at Melissa. “But, mom- I talked to dad. He said he trusted me. I made a mistake one time- and I’m sorry. But you can’t hold that against me for the rest of my life.”
Cody climbed up onto the couch and flopped down in Melissa's lap, wanting attention. He clearly had no clue what was going on around him, but he still wanted to be close to Melissa. Lucas stirred again and yawned, opening his eyes to look around tiredly. "Mmm… Melissa?" He called out softly, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes.
"Cody… not now." Melissa whispered, picking the puppy up and setting him on the floor. "You mean to tell me, you two have been 'going out' for who knows how long, and your father has known the whole time?" Mrs. Brennahan scoffed, giving her a look of disbelief. "You've got to be joking. You really think he wouldn't have told me at some point? You're just digging yourself in a hole, deeper than you're going to be able to get out of." Melissa felt her heart sink at her mother's words, starting to panic. "But… but I did tell him. He said he was okay with it- I…" Words falling short, she caved a little with no further argument. "That's what I thought. I'm not an idiot Melissa, you can't lie straight to my face, and expect to get away with it. But obviously, Lucas can lie to you. You really think he could love you? You're just an ungrateful brat, trying to get away with something you know would never be allowed."
(Lucas: couldn't lie to save his life)
"Melissa?" Lucas called out again, slipping out of bed and quietly walking out the door, growing increasingly anxious. "Hello?" He walked down the stairs and noticed Melissa and her mother, his face immediately paling when he saw them. Oh God.
(Lol)
Melissa was on the verge of tears, barely holding herself together. "That… that's not true. You're just trying to get into my head." Melissa replied weakly, biting into her lip. "Of course it's true. You're lying straight to my face. After everything I've done for you- taken care of you, kept you alive- you're being selfish an idiotic. You're blinded by you're desire for attention. You think he loves you, but he doesn't. Pull yourself together." Mrs. Brennahan scowled, not seeming to hear or notice when Lucas had entered the room. "If you think it's a lie, why don't you find out yourself, huh? Put your stupid selfish desires aside, and take a look. Maybe you'll see reality and stop being such an idiot."
Lucas's stomach dropped and he moved a bit closer. "M-Melissa? Mrs. Brennahan?" He was very pale and nervous by now, and he wasn't sure what to do. He knew he needed to help, but he didn't know all of the context and what he was allowed to say. Cody wandered over to him and he picked the puppy up, holding him close to his chest.
Melissa froze completely, turning around just barely to see Lucas. Her mouth was gaping a little, and she couldn't come up with anything to say. "L-Lucas… I- you shouldn't be in here. I thought you were sleeping." Melissa said weakly, getting up off the couch to try and push him away. Clearly he had already heard something- and it was too late for anything to be taken back- but she didn't want him to hear anything else. She couldn't bare the thought. "Please- go back upstairs. Go find my dad, or something."
"No, Melissa, I told you I didn't want you getting in trouble because of this…" Lucas sighed, running his fingers through his hair and closing his eyes. After a few seconds of hesitation, he sat down beside Melissa on the couch and looked up at Mrs. Brennahan. "What all do you want to know, ma'am?" He asked softly.
"Lucas- please, not now. Don't do this… just… just go back upstairs." Melissa begged him, tears still brimming her eyes. "I've got this-" With one look from her mother, she fell quiet and stopped talking to him. "There's nothing for you to explain. Unless you feel like telling me why my daughter thinks you love her, then there's nothing."
Lucas flushed a bit, his heart pounding. "W-Well, I do… and we weren't dating the night that she brought me here after I got hurt. It was a couple weeks after, I think…" He fidgeted nervously with his hands. "I care a lot about Melissa, ma'am. I want to make sure she's happy and safe…"
