Melissa nodded in return, settling back against him. “Mhmm. Though, we didn’t get any kind of special shampoo.”
Melissa nodded in return, settling back against him. “Mhmm. Though, we didn’t get any kind of special shampoo.”
"True… do you guys have any old baby shampoo? I've heard that it works almost as well."
“M’not sure. There hasn’t been a baby in the house since I was little. I doubt it, but we can always look.” Melissa hummed, smiling as Cody continued to roll around.
Lucas nodded a bit. "We can go back and get some at some point… I have a feeling we're going to need it."
“I bet. The little guy seems to be enjoying himself. I have a feeling this is going to be pretty normal.” Melissa laughed softly, resting her hand on his.
"Yep. I definitely plan on bringing him back." Lucas smiled gently and kept petting Cody.
Melissa smiled in return, looking up at his face. "Then we'll have to get it the next time we're out and about."
"Sounds good to me, Mel." Lucas scratched behind Cody's ears. "He seems to like it here."
"Mm, he really is the perfect puppy for us." Melissa smiled lightly, pulling back to give him some space.
"Mhmm. Very affectionate… he can sleep on the couch with me. Maybe we can make a sort of pen for him to be in during the day? Or he could theoretically stay outside most of the time…"
"Mhmm…" Melissa nodded a little, starting to lose focus on what he had been saying. "M'fine with either."
"Since you've got a fence, he'd be alright… and your dad has a window in his office, so he might even be able to see him."
"Then we should put his bowls outside…" Melissa added on, glancing out towards to pathway into the woods. "Though, we should check the weather before we leave. It was suppose to rain a lot, this week."
"Yeah. I don't want him to be out in the rain. Maybe he can be in the indoor pen when it's raining?"
"We won't really have any other choice." Melissa pointed out, laying back on the grass to look up at him.
"Right." Lucas lay down beside Melissa, making sure he had a solid grip on the leash.
Shifting her gaze to the sky, she sighed softly. "Today's been a pretty good day."
"Yeah. It really has." Lucas grinned, kissing Melissa's cheek again. "I mean, any day that you get to get a puppy is a good one."
"And yet, you won't let me take you to get more." Melissa hummed, smiling back at him. "Mm, but I do have to say, any day with you around, is a pretty good one."
"Well, we can't afford a ton of puppies." Lucas laughed. He flushed at Melissa's second comment and looked over at her. "I… um… y-you think so?"
Melissa smiled softly, looking upwards once more. "Mhmm. These last weeks have been, by far, the best I've had in a while. I've felt happier… better about myself, even. Having you around is honestly one of the best things in life, right now."
Lucas flushed harder and hid his face in Melissa's shoulder. "I-I'm glad I can make you feel better, Mel…"
Reaching over, she slowly started running her fingers through his hair. "It's not just that… I feel like everything is better with you around. Maybe I'm crazy, but I still feel like it."
"Mm… I-I feel the same way…" Lucas replied softly. "Being around you and your family has done me some good, I think…"
"It's really good for you. You needed to get away from your dad, for sure." Melissa whispered, kissing the top of his head softly.
Lucas nodded. "I've generally just been better since I left… like, the anxiety attacks you've seen me have are way better than they ever were at home."
"That might be partially because someone has been able to help you through it." Melissa pointed out. "Or it's getting away. Maybe both."
Lucas shrugged. "Yeah… I feel safer in your house, so they don't really get as bad as they did back at home."
Melissa nodded a little, resting her hand on her stomach. "If you ever don't feel safe, you know you can tell me, right?"
"Yeah, of course. Sometimes I'm not thinking straight in the moment, though… so I can't always guarantee that I'll go to you."
