"Um… I'm not sure. Cas couldn't afford it, but he couldn't afford much. Is there no way for you to get money? You're a God, after all."
"Um… I'm not sure. Cas couldn't afford it, but he couldn't afford much. Is there no way for you to get money? You're a God, after all."
"I'll figure something out, if it means helping Cas." He sighed, holding the two close.
Nix nodded a bit and closed his eyes again. "We'll do what we can… he needs help."
"He does," Halm agreed. "And we'll get him some." He leaned back against the headboard, rubbing both Nix's and Cas's backs.
Nix purred weakly, huddling close to Halm. "Mhmm… to the best of our ability. Is there any way to like, bring a therapist down here or something? Someone who can prescribe him medication?"
Halm shook his head.
"Mortals can't come down here unless they're either going to die or they're tied to me. People aren't allowed to come here then go back up." He sighed softly. "We'll have to make the trip up there."
Nix nodded a bit. "Are there any souls that still have their memories that were therapists? Maybe we could have Cas talk to one of them."
"I'll have to look later. For now, I'm not moving off this bed." Halm settled down a bit more to prove his point.
"That's fair… I don't want to leave him alone…" Nix sighed, pulling Cas closer to himself.
Halm nodded.
"Neither do I. And he won't be wanting to leave this room any time soon." Halm himself felt like if Cas left he would be in danger.
Nix nodded a bit as well. "How long do you think he's going to be like this?" He asked.
"I don't know," Halm admitted. "He's gone through so much recently…" He patted the top of Cas's and Nix's head gently.
"Yeah… he's definitely gotten worse…" Nix sighed, leaning into Halm's hand. "Extra trauma added onto the old stuff."
Halm sighed softly. He rubbed Nix's head, holding him close.
"I had told him he would be safe here," he said softly, "but all that's happened is he gets hurt, over and o-over…"
Nix sighed as well and buried himself in Halm's arms. "It's not all your fault, Halm… I know your think it is, but he's just a magnet for danger."
Halm rested his head on Nix gently, taking in a deep breath.
"Still… I should be able to do something to protect him. I'm a god. But… I haven't been able to do anything…"
Nix shrugged. "And it's my job to protect him. Clearly I haven't been doing any better."
Halm sighed, holding Nix close.
"Yes you have. You couldn't have done much at all to stop Cas from tripping over the can I had left out. You've been helping take care of all the people who have hurt him."
Nix sighed. "B-But it's my job to comfort him as well, and obviously I'm still doing shit at that because he's still doing this!"
"And you're doing everything you can!" Halm said in rebuttal. "You're helping, even if just a little."
Nix turned his ears back and buried his face in Halm's chest. "I-I just feel like such a failure…"
Halm wrapped his arm around Nix again.
"You've done so much to help Cas," he reassured. "You've kept him safe for so long."
"B… B-But I haven't! He keeps doing this and I can't stop him!"
"That's why we're going to find a therapist for him. And you had kept him alive for so long." He held Nix close, wanting to be his comforter now.
Nix hiccuped a few times and clung to Halm. His tail was puffed up and his ears were flattened back against his head. "I just— w-wanna— h… h-help him…" He sobbed, choking on his words.
"You're going to be able to," Halm said quietly. He gently laid Cas down next to them, enveloping Nix in his arms. "You're going to make sure he's okay now. We'll get someone to help when we can't. He'll be okay."
Nix buried his face in Halm's chest, noticeably shaking. "W-Why does everything have to happen to h… him?"
Halm rubbed Nix's back gently, doing his best to help. He really didn't know how to handle these situations. He'd never had much interaction with anyone before.
"I don't know," Halm admitted, "but we're going to do everything we can…"
Nix nodded a bit, still huddled close to Halm. "Mm… I just don't know if it'll be enough…"
"Then we'll find something more to help him." He pulled Nix a bit closer, trying to help.
