"As long as it doesn't get out of hand," Halm said, chuckling a little. He finished his food, setting the plate aside.
"As long as it doesn't get out of hand," Halm said, chuckling a little. He finished his food, setting the plate aside.
Nix dragged himself into Halm's lap, purring a bit louder. He closed his eyes and relaxed with a contented sigh.
Halm wrapped both arms around Nix, smiling a bit.
"So, how are you felling?" He asked of Cas, wanting to see if he still had any physical ailments.
"Tiny bit sore, but mostly okay now…" Cas yawned a bit and sighed. Nix huddled up against Halm, seeming content.
"That's good to hear," Halm said. He reached up and rubbed the side of Nix's head. He was sitting in the middle of the bed, facing Cas.
Nix nuzzled into Halm's hand, keeping his eyes closed as he relaxed. "Mhmm… I'm kinda scared to like, move at all, though."
Halm nodded.
"That's understandable. Though… eventually it would good for you to at least stretch." He sighed a little, petting Nix quietly.
Cas nodded a bit. "I-I just… I feel like if I go anywhere, I'm gonna die again… and then I can't come back to my body."
Halm fell silent. Cas had every right to be afraid of that.
"I understand," he said gently, moving a bit closer to Cas. "And Nix and I will be with you to make sure nothing happens. We'll keep you safe."
Nix nodded in agreement and Cas sighed, fidgeting nervously with his hands. "A-And I just… I died in the house… how many more things could kill me outside the house?"
Halm faltered a bit.
"W-well," he said. "There's… the river, and… there are a couple areas that can be dangerous…"
Cas sighed softly. "I just wanna curl up under the covers and cry and never leave again…" Nix reached out to run his fingers through Cas's hair, trying to calm him.
Halm reached out to cup Cas's cheek, frowning softly.
"Cas," he said softly. "We're here to keep you safe."
Cas hiccuped a bit and buried himself in the covers, trying to hide away from Halm and Nix. Nix sighed and turned his ears back as he watched him. "Cas, don't be like that… you're going to be okay, I promise. We're going to protect you."
"You're not going to get hurt anymore," Halm said gently. "We promise." He didn't push, didn't try to touch Cas again.
Nix nodded in agreement and Cas kept himself hidden, falling silent. Nix looked up at Halm with a quiet sigh as he tried to figure out what to do.
Halm sighed.
"You're going to be okay," he said softly. He didn't know what to do either.
Nix hesitantly slid off of Halm's lap and huddled up against Cas. "No… go away. Leave me alone." Cas pushed Nix away. Nix flattened his ears back against his head and whimpered quietly.
"Cas," Halm said quietly, a small plea. He put his arms around Nix, carefully pulling him back. He knew that must have hurt, for Cas to push him away like that. He knew Nix must not be used to it.
"I wanna be alone right now…" Cas mumbled, curling up more tightly under the covers. Nix huddled up in Halm's lap, clearly upset and staying completely silent for the moment.
Halm gently folded his arms around Nix, holding him close and trying to comfort him.
"Alright then," he said quietly. He picked Nix up in one arm, gathering the plates up with the other. He stood, making his way towards the door.
"We'll be right out here," he said softly, withdrawing from the room.
Nix buried his face in Halm's chest, curling his tail around the God's arm. He really didn't want to leave Cas alone, especially not when he was in this state, but he didn't have much choice. Cas dug his fingernails into his arms once Halm and Nix were gone, tears rolling down his pale cheeks.
Halm held Nix close, taking in a quick breath. He knew, in his gut, that Cas was hurting himself. That he shouldn't be alone. But what could he do? He held Nix close, on the verge of tears himself.
"W-We gotta go back in…" Nix whispered weakly, clinging to Halm. "He… we can't leave him alone like this. He's upset."
Cas bit down hard on his lip as he shredded his forearms with his nails, his blood slicking up his skin as he continued. His tears dripped off of his cheeks and mingled with the crimson on his arms.
Halm felt like if he looked down at his arms he would see the fingernail marks on himself. He set Nix down, rushing back into the bedroom to stop him. He was crying.
"Cas," he cried out, taking Cas's wrists in his hands. "Cas stop."
Cas was sobbing weakly by now, his blood staining the sheets as it trickled down his arms. Nix rushed into the room after Halm, climbing onto the bed and holding Cas close to comfort him.
Halm stared down at the bloody sheets. They seemed unreal to him. He pulled Cas's hands away from his arms, holding them apart so he couldn't hurt himself anymore.
"Cas," he said, voice broken a little. He felt like he needed to hold Cas like this, to keep him from hurting himself anymore, but he needed to take care of the cuts. Of the blood.
Cas hiccuped, his gaze distant and unfocused. He hardly seemed to know where he was anymore. "Cas, p-please… stop…" Nix whispered, holding Cas close to himself. Tears rolled down his cheeks as well. All he could do was watch and try to comfort Cas to the best of his ability.

"N-Nix, I need you to hold Cas's wrist," Halm instructed, his voice crack giving him away. "I… I need to deal with this…" He fought back the tears, carefully pushing one arm for Nix to hold.
