"Mhmm." Lucas got in beside her and buckled himself in. He pulled out his phone again so he could let the dog person know that they were on their way.
"Mhmm." Lucas got in beside her and buckled himself in. He pulled out his phone again so he could let the dog person know that they were on their way.
Mr. Brennahan clicked his seat belt into place, turning back to them. "You two buckled in?" He asked lightly, starting to back out. Melissa glanced over to Lucas, and nodded with a light smile before resting her head on his shoulder.
"Yes, sir." Lucas flushed a bit and hesitated before tentatively resting his head against Melissa's. Even though he knew Mr. Brennahan was okay with their relationship, being affectionate around him still made him nervous.
Melissa on the other hand, didn't seem to mind being cuddly around her father. Whether she just wasn't thinking or didn't care was unclear. "Mm, I'm assuming you told them we were on the way?"
"Mhmm." Lucas nodded a bit and tried to relax, which was somewhat successful. "They know we're coming, so we should be good."
"Right. I'm gonna guess afterwards we're gonna go back and stay home?" Melissa asked Lucas softly before taking his hand in hers.
"Probably, yeah. Unless you wanted to go to the park again." Lucas smiled softly and laced his fingers with Melissa's.
"I think I might have to pass on that offer." Mumbling a bit, she let out a soft sigh. "For today at least, maybe just stick around my house."
"Yeah… it was kinda weird there." Lucas hummed thoughtfully. "We can try again tomorrow, yeah?"
"Mm… tomorrow is better than today." Melissa hummed with a smile. "What's this about the park?" Mr. Brennahan asked lightly, a little concerned about what had happened. "I don't mean to eavesdrop, I'm just curious."
"Nothing really happened, we just… both of us felt like something was off. There was no one there except us, and it was super quiet. That's why we came home earlier than we said."
"Ahh, that makes sense. I'm glad you two were smart enough to come home." Mr. Brennahan hummed a little, sighing softly. "I don't want either of you getting hurt." He nodded a bit, before focusing on his driving. Melissa smiled softly, sitting up in her seat. "We were alright. Like Lucas said, there was no one there, so we really shouldn't have been worried."
Lucas nodded a bit. "Still, we didn't feel safe there, so we came back. I'm not sure why there wasn't anyone else in the park… it was very strange."
"Wonder if it was suppose to rain today." Mr. Brennahan mumbled his theories, glancing up at the clouds. "It does look kind of gloomy. Maybe that's why." Melissa agreed with her father after glancing out the window.
"Maybe…" Lucas hummed thoughtfully, looking out the window as well. "I hadn't noticed… there's a lot of trees where we like to hang out, so you can't really see the sky."
"I don't think it was cloudy earlier. When we were walking, it was pretty blue." Melissa hummed a little, nuzzling against his cheek. "Though I was a little distracted when we went to leave. So I don't know about then."
"Yeah… I dunno. I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's in the past." Lucas smiled weakly and looked over at Melissa.
“That’s true. Guess we shouldn’t worry about it.” Melissa shrugged, curling up closer to Lucas. “It could have been anything.”
"Mhmm." Lucas wrapped one arm around Melissa and sighed, pulling her close. He checked a GPS on his phone to see if they were getting close.
They were about five minutes away from the house at this point, and Mr. Brennahan pulled into a different neighborhood. “Mm… whatcha doing?” Melissa asked lightly, glancing over his shoulder.
"Just checking to see how close we are." Lucas turned off his phone and leaned into Melissa again, sighing softly.
“I didn’t mean to take you away from it. I was just curious.” Melissa told him softly, glancing up at him. “If I’m bugging you, I can leave you alone.”
"You're not bugging me, Mel. You're perfectly fine." Lucas ruffled Melissa's hair affectionately and stuck his phone back in his pocket.
Melissa smiled lightly, giggling the same. “I just wanted to make sure. I know I can be kind of nosy.”
"You're alright, Mel. I promise. I like having you around." Lucas gently kissed the top of Melissa's head and looked out the window again.
"Mm'kay." Melissa hummed a little, burying her face into his shoulder. After a few more minutes, they pulled up to the house, and Mr. Brennahan shut off the car. "Alright you two, ready to head in?"
Lucas nodded, unable to keep himself from grinning. He unbuckled himself and opened the car door. He headed over to Melissa's side and held open the door for her.
Smiling to him, she slid out of the back seat with a light sigh. "You're so cute." Melissa hummed to herself, pecking his lips. "Come on, let's go get you a puppy."
Lucas flushed and huffed a bit as he always did when Melissa called him cute. "Yeah, yeah…" He gently kissed Melissa's cheek, took her by the hand, and led her up to the house.
Melissa gave him an innocent smile, glancing back at her dad. Mr. Brennahan had a soft smile on as he watched the two, eagerly making their way up to the house. "If I didn't know better, I'd think you two were excited." He teased a little, before Melissa reached out to press the door bell.
