"Sorry. I just…I…" He was afraid that Gabe would end up like Henry and he didn't want that.

"No, don't be sorry," Gabe said quickly, looking back up at Alex. "I'm the one who just sprang this on you. I-I get if you don't feel that same."

"No, it's…" Alex wrapped his arms around himself a little bit. "Henry…said a lot of the same things and…"

Gabe's eyes widened a little in realization.
"I would never hurt you, Alex," he said softly. He took a hesitant step back towards Alex.

Alex looked up at him, his eyes careful, shy. "You wouldn't now. But that doesn't mean you never will."

(last I checked Alex is going to be the one to hurting Gabe)
"Then I'll do everything I can to keep you out of harms way." Gabe carefully reached back up to Alex's cheek.

(sshhh he doesn't mean to)

Alex swallowed, leaning into that gentle touch. "But…"

"You've already been through so much," Gabe said. "I don't want you to go through anything else. That still hasn't changed."

Alex looked up at him, unsure what to do. "But…" he said agian.

Gabe gently rubbed Alex's cheek.
"You're deserving of so much…"

Alex leaned into that touch, biting his lip a little bit. "I-I don't…"

"You do," Gabe insisted gently. "You do more than so many I've known before."

(not gonna be too active tonight because it's father's day)

Alex shook his head. "I-I don't think so."

(understandable!)
Gabe let out a little sigh.
"I do," he said gently.

Alex bit his lip a little, but didn't argue, just looked up at Gabe.

Gabe gently took Alex's hand in his with his free hand.
"I do love you," he said softly.

Alex took in a breath, trying to process that.

Gabe gazed at Alex gently, letting Alex take as much time as he needed. The music played in the background, then came to a halt as the record ended.

Alex looked up at him. "Are you sure?" he asked again.

"I'm sure," Gabe said, more confident this time.

He nodded a little bit, leaning his head on Gabe's chest.

Gabe wrapped one arm lightly around Alex, the other resting on Alex's head.
"And what do you think?" He asked quietly.

Alex shrugged a little bit.

Gabe was silent. At least Alex wasn't rejecting him outright.
"Okay then," he said quietly.

"I-it's not…I…" he took a deep breath. "I'm not s-saying that I don't like you that way, I-I…I do, I just…don't know if it's…love. I'm not…n-not sure that I'm, uhm, ready for that."

"It's okay," Gabe said gently, seeing Alex was getting upset. "You don't need to know right now. You don't need to be ready, because I won't ask you to do anything you don't want to."

Alex curled his fingers into Gabe's shirt a little bit, letting out a faint breath.

Gabe gently rubbed Alex's back.
"You're okay," he said softly.

Alex nodded a little bit. "Okay." he said softly.

Gabe held Alex close a moment more. Above all, he wanted Alex to be safe, and happy.
