Halm wrapped both arms around Cas, bringing him or of the house. He headed to the flowers, trying to sense where Cas's father was.
Cas seemed to be a little uneasy, but he kept quiet and stayed close to Halm.
Eventually, Halm knelt down in front of one flower in particular.
"Are you sure your ready?" He asked of Cas one last time.
"Um… y-yeah… I think so." Cas eyed the flower warily. "Will it look like him?"
Halm thought a moment, then nodded.
"Yes," he said. Halm carefully reached out, lightly touching the soul in the middle of the flower. After a moment, it unfolded from the circular shape it had been to that of a small human. Cas's father.
Cas whimpered quietly as he looked down at his father's soul, huddling close to Halm. He seemed very tense and uneasy.
The soul looked around a little, spotting Halm first. Then, it saw Cas.
"You," it said.
Cas cowered in Halm's lap. "W-What do you want, sir?" He asked weakly.
"What are you doing here?" The soul demanded. Halm wrapped his arms more securely around Cas, glaring at the soul. It flinched, drawing back a little.
"Um… I got claimed or something… I-I just… wanted to apologize for running away when I was twelve…"
"It's fine," the soul said. "Didn't notice much anyway." The last part was mumbled, and the soul looked down to avoid Halm's gaze.
Cas winced and moved a bit closer to Halm. "I-It's just… you never accepted me. You never cared. I tried to tell you I was gay and you just fucking beat me down."
Halm was a bit surprised at that. He wrapped his arms around Cas completely, mostly blocking Cas from his father. Still, they would be able to talk and see each other.
"Then you shouldn't have decided to be a faggot," the soul spat. Halm tensed at this, ready to step in and protect Cas.
"Don't talk like that to him," Halm warned the soul.
"I can't decide to be gay!" Cas's voice broke and he was clearly struggling to hold back tears. "And you never cared about me! You just pretended to before mom left!"
"You're lucky I did then!" The soul shouted back. Halm clenched one fist, and the soul flinched back considerably.
"Cas, maybe it's time to leave," he said softly.
Cas bit his lip, holding back tears. "I-I always tried to impress you. I wanted you to care about me. But you never did. Nothing was ever enough."
Halm carefully cupped Cas's head in his hand, holding him close.
"It wasn't," the soul confirmed. "I don't even know why your talking to me now. I don't care about you." The soul seemed peeved at the affection Halm was giving him.
"It makes sense the only one who can ever long you is a death God."
"W-What was I supposed to do to be enough for you?!" Cas glared at the soul, his eyes shining with tears. "Why was I never enough?! I tried so fucking hard!"
"Because I never wanted you! You're a mistake, just like everything else in your life." The soul glared at Cas.
"Cas, I think this is enough," Halm said again.
A couple tears rolled down Cas's cheeks. "That's why she left when I was little, didn't she?"
Halm carefully wiped Cas's tears away gently.
"What do you think?" The soul sneered.
Cas drew in a shaky breath and huddled close to Halm, struggling to not break down right there.
Halm pulled Cas close with one arm. He rapped the soul with his other hand, and it was forced back to the state it had been in before. He wrapped Cas up, trying to comfort him.
Cas started sobbing quietly when the soul was gone, clinging tightly to Halm. "T-This was a bad idea…" He whispered.
"I'm sorry," Halm said softly. "I'm so sorry." He picked Cas up completely, carrying him away from the gardens.
Cas hiccuped a few times while Halm pulled him away. He could hear the fish swirling around in the pond when they passed them.
Halm gently rubbed Cas's back. This had been a horrible idea. He brought Cas inside, coding the door behind them.
Cas coughed a bit as he sobbed helplessly in Halm's arms. "W-Why does he h… h-hate me so much…?" Cas choked on his words and coughed again.
"I don't know," Halm said softly. "I don't know how anyone could hate you." He sat down on the couch, pulling his legs up to cocoon Cas in Halm's gentle grip.
Cas drew in a few harsh, shaky breaths and huddled close to Halm. "I j… I-I just want him to… to l-love me…"
