Halm picked Cas up again, during down in his own chair with Cas on his lap.
Cas leaned back against Halm and shifted to be more comfortable. "What's for food?"
"Waffles with fruit and cream," Halm said. He pulled Cas's plate over to that side of the table as well. He was making healthier meals than normal, mostly for Cas's sake.
"Mmmmm…" Cas picked up a waffle and pulled it towards himself to take a bite of.
Halm started eating, careful not to drop any food on Cas.
Cas ate slowly, still very clearly half asleep and barely there.
Halm finished quickly as normal, and he put his arms around Cas while the mortal ate.
After a few minutes, Cas finally finished his food and huddled up against Halm again. He yawned and closed his eyes, sighing.
Halm picked Cas up in one arm, holding him close as he took the plates to the sink.
"You ready to head back to bed?" Halm asked quietly, smiling a little.
"Mhmm…" Cas shifted a bit when he was picked up, but otherwise stayed relaxed and still.
Halm made his way back to the bedroom, laying Cas down and covering him with the large blanket.
"Just be sure to come get me if you feel the tugging again, okay?" He said softly.
"Mmkay…" Cas huddled into the blankets and yawned, soon drifting back off to sleep.
Halm patted Cas's shoulder lightly, heading out to the gardens to continue his work from yesterday.
A few hours later, Cas headed outside to find Halm, holding Nix close to his chest. "Halm?"
Halm looked up from his work when Cas came out.
"Yes?" He said, wiping his brow.
"The tugging thing is happening again… although maybe I shouldn't have come out… it's… it's worse now…" Cas slowly lowered himself to the ground, starting to feel lightheaded.
Halm was up in a moment, scooping Cas up and hurrying to carry him back to the house. He had a suspicion as to what the tugging was, but they would have to check.
"Mmm…" Cas rested his head on Halm's chest. "Why does this keep happening to me…?" He asked weakly.
"We're going to find out, okay?" Halm said gently. He made his way to the bedroom, heading to the wardrobe. He opened it, setting Cas inside. He held his hands for for the cat in Cas's arms.
"It wouldn't be safe for both of you to be in here," he said softly, not explaining what the wardrobe did yet.
"W-What're you doing?" Cas asked with a quavering voice. He eyed Halm warily and held the cat closer to himself.
"I'm… Going to examine your soul," Halm explained softly. "I think I know what's going on, but we have to do this to make sure, and it would be extremely dangerous for you and your cat to be in here at the same time."
Cas whimpered quietly and hesitated before handing over Nix. Nix meowed worriedly, but didn't struggle.
Halm sat Nix down on the floor, cupping Cas's cheek for a moment.
"Everything is going to be okay," he said softly, gently closing the door and pulling his hand away at the last moment.
Cas sat in the dark wardrobe, his heart pounding. After a few seconds, he felt himself go limp.
Halm waited as long as he could before opening the wardrobe door, glancing in for Cas's soul.
"Hello?" He said softly.
Cas's soul was flitting about anxiously. When it noticed that the door was open, it darted out into the room and looked for a way out.
Halm saw the soul dart out, watching it closely before pouncing, catching it in his hands.
"Hold on," he said gently. "What are you trying to do?" He brought the soul closer to the wardrobe and Cas's body.
The soul fluttered around in Halm's hands, seeming nervous and antsy. "I gotta get out! I'm dead! I'm dead already! Why am I still stuck here? I'm dead! Let me go!"
"You're not dead," Halm said softly. "You are perfectly fine. You're farther from dying now then you were before you came here."
"Then why am I out of the body? Let go of me!" The soul fought to get free, huffing indignantly.
