Cas sighed and allowed Halm to help him up. He was tiny next to the God, only reaching about to Halm's elbow at the most.
Cas sighed and allowed Halm to help him up. He was tiny next to the God, only reaching about to Halm's elbow at the most.
"Lead the way," Halm said softly. He let go of Cas's hand once he was up, ready to follow him. Halm was much more docile then the stories made him out to be.
Cas nodded and started walking through the forest, back the way he'd come. He was kind of in shock and still wasn't fully processing the situation.
Halm followed silently, blending into the shadows even though he didn't mean to. When they got to the edge of the forest, he stopped.
"I can't go any further like this," he said softly.
"What do you mean?" Cas looked up at Halm, confused. "Aren't people gonna attack me or something if you're not with me?"
"I didn't say I wasn't coming with you," Halm corrected gently. "I just can't go like this." Halm knelt down next to Cas, touching his chest lightly.
"You'll have to carry me from here," he said. "Just know I have to stay right here the entire time." With a little flash, Halm was gone. Now, a pale white gem hung from a chain on Cas's neck. The metal work around it was pitch black.
"I'm still just me." Halm's voice came from the gem.
Cas seemed incredibly uneasy at this. Clearly this gem had some weird powers and he didn't trust it in the slightest. After a couple seconds of hesitation, he just started walking again.
Halm felt bad for making Cas uneasy, but this was the only way.
"Please, hurry," he said softly to Cas. It was almost sunset.
"I'm going, I'm going. I've got little legs, alright?" Cas huffed indignantly and picked up the pace a bit. Soon enough, he reached his apartment complex and went inside.
Cas really did go a lot slower than Halm was used to. He waited until they were in Cas's apartment, then turned back to his normal form.
"Careful, the ceiling's not that high." Cas sighed softly as he headed into his room to grab things. "You'll probably have to help me carry stuff. I don't have a suitcase." Cas's apartment was cheap and shabby, but he could still barely afford it.
Halm was practically sitting down to keep his head from hitting the ceiling.
"I can do that," he said, waiting for call to tell him what to carry.
Soon, Cas brought out a few piles of clothes and went back to grab more things. He grabbed a blanket, an extra pair of shoes, and a cat bed. "There. That's everything other than the cat food and stuff." He really didn't own much, to be honest, but he had just enough that he couldn't carry it all himself.
Halm picked up most of the items, easily carrying them in one arm.
"Ready to leave now?" Halm said calmly.
"Once I get the cat stuff, yeah…" Cas went into the kitchen and grabbed a large bag of cat food and the litter box. He dragged them back into the room, clearly struggling under their weight.
Halm saw Cas struggling, offering to take the cat food from him.
"Please, let me help," he offered.
Cas sighed softly and let Halm take it. "Honestly, Nix has more stuff than I do…"
Halm put everything in his left arm, offering his right hand to Cas.
"I'm sure that will change," he said softly. "But now it's time to leave."
Cas nodded and hesitated before taking Halm's hand. He sighed and closed his eyes, trembling slightly in anticipation.
Halm pulled Cas gently closer, w wrapping his arms around him. In a moment, they left the apartment, left in the cold, beautiful underworld.
Cas started shivering immediately, clinging more tightly to Halm and drawing in a wavering breath. "Shit… it's so c-cold here…"
Halm wrapped his arm more securely around Cas, standing up and holding him close. He kept Cas as warm as he could add he made his way to the house in front of them, careful of the flowers that glowed at his feet.
Cas let Halm drag him along, his teeth chattering from the cold. Considering how little body fat he had, it was very difficult for him to keep himself warm.
Eventually they got to the house. Halm set Cas down momentarily to open the door, motioning for can to follow him in. It was warmer in here, thankfully, but not by much. Halm closed the door behind them, setting Cas's things down.
Cas hugged himself tightly, trying to preserve some heat. "Is… is it always so cold here…?" He asked, still shaking violently.
"Not always," Halm said. When he saw how much Cas was shivering, he stepped over, scooping Cas up and tucking him under one side of his jacket. He was very warm, especially considering how cold it was, and the jacket kept the cold from seeping in. Cas could do see out, of course.
"Just some nights."
Cas huddled close to Halm, clinging tightly to him to try and steal his warmth. He closed his eye and drew in a few harsh, wavering breaths.
Halm wrapped the arm that wasn't supporting Cas around him, walking over to the couch to sit down. He curled around Cas slightly, waiting for him to warm up.
"How are you doing?" He asked quietly.
Cas huddled close to Halm, still shuddering. "M'cold… so cold…" His teeth were chattering still. "Why is it so cold?"
"There's no sun here," Halm explained quietly. "We're underground." Halm pulled Cas a little closer, trying to think of a way to help him warm up more.
