"I'll happily be your dork." Melissa hummed, still smiling softly. "But I'd like an explanation why."

"What kinda explanation?" Lucas asked, kissing her softly.
(When's Laura gonna pop in? 👀)

(About two seconds from now ahah)

"Explaining why you think I'm a dork." Melissa hummed, wrapping her arms around his shoulders. "So please, elaborate."

(Lmao)
"Well, you get really adorable when you're watching me draw, and you drink juice boxes, and you always wanna hold my hand, even when we weren't dating."

"Mm… all valid points." Melissa hummed, biting on her lower lip. "Though I wouldn't say it makes me-" Cutting herself off, she looked behind him and her face flushed as she saw Laura there with a smug look. Resting her head on his shoulder, she couldn't help but be embarrassed. "God, why am I so bad at keeping this a secret?"

Lucas glanced over his shoulder at Laura and flushed red. "Oh! I-I… um… hi…?" He stammered weakly.

Laughing softly, Laura sat down across from the two. "So, when did this happen?" She hummed, resting her elbow on the table so she could rest her head on her palm. Sighing weakly, Melissa pulled back and gave Lucas an apologetic look. "About a week, or so…" Melissa told her, as she turned to face her.

Lucas stared down at his lap and fidgeted nervously, still very red. Melissa knew Laura better than him, so he figured he'd let her do the talking. He also wasn't particularly coherent at the moment.

"Mm, I always knew you two would finally suck it up." Laura hummed, smirking just a little bit. "It was pathetic how in love you two were. I almost broke the news to you myself." She joked, relaxing her teasing look into a more soft one. "You- you knew?" Melissa asked, quite confused as she held on to Lucas's hand.

Lucas glanced up at Laura nervously, lacing his fingers with Melissa's. "I'm not exactly too good at hiding my emotions, so that doesn't surprise me too much…"

Laura gave him a light smile, pulling her hair back out of her face. "I'm me, of course I knew, Melissa." Laura told her, glancing over to Lucas. "Especially since your boyfriend's right. It wasn't hard to tell on his side. Though you were pretty easy to figure out as well." She insisted, leaning in a bit. "Honestly, if you didn't fess up soon, I was going to tell you."

Lucas flushed harder when Laura referred to him as Melissa's boyfriend and became very interested in his shoes again. "I'm sure that would've gone well…"

"Oh of course." Laura hummed in a teasing tone. Melissa glanced back over to Lucas, wrapping her arms around his waist. "Well, it's a good thing you didn't. I have a feeling things would have gone a lot different if he hadn't told me."

"Yeah, I mean, there's a high likelihood of me passing out. I've… kinda been doing that a lot recently, and getting close to it."

Laura smiled softly, watching the two interact. "That's not good. What's that about?" She asked softly, not wanting to bug him too badly. When the question was asked, Melissa rested her chin on his chest and looked up at him. She was trying to give him a look, to let him know he didn't have to answer. Whether it worked or not, she didn't know.

"Um… well, getting beaten really badly was one, getting glass shards pulled out of my scalp was another… and I very nearly passed out when Melissa kissed me and her dad saw us." Lucas shrugged.

Taken by surprise, Laura gave him a worried look. "Are- are you okay?" She asked him worriedly, seeming genuinely concerned. "The last week has been… interesting." Melissa admitted, looking over at Laura with a light sigh.

"Um… I think so? I mean, my dad's and jail and I'm living with Melissa now so that's… an improvement, but still different and interesting."

"Wait- your dad is in jail?" Laura asked confused, still completely lost. With the lack of detail, this would be quite confusing. "Like I said, the last few weeks have been interesting. But right now- probably not the best place to talk about it." Melissa hummed, pulling back from Lucas.

"Uh… right. When are we supposed to talk about this, though? I kinda forgot I didn't exactly tell anyone but you…"

Laura glanced between the two, giving up trying to figure this out. "Whenever you're up for talking about it." Melissa told him, pecking his lips. "Just, probably not in school."

"Um… alright… and we're technically busy after school, so I dunno… is there a time that works for you? I mean, I'm fine to just tell you now, to be honest…"

Laura gave him a light shrug, trying to think things through. “I don’t really know. If you just give me a day, I can work it out.” She hummed, smiling softly. “Also, I don’t know what this is about, but if you’re uncomfortable telling me because we aren’t super close, that’s fine.”

"I mean, I've already told you enough that you might as well know, to be honest… and I trust you enough to not go around telling everyone."

“Well, then your secret will be safe with me.” Laura told him, giving a relaxed smile. “I guess we should figure out a time to meet up.” Melissa stated, running her thumb over Lucas’s hand.

"Yeah… what time works for you?" Lucas asked Laura. "We're busy today, obviously, but we could always plan to meet tomorrow…"

"That works. I have work Thursday to Sunday, otherwise I'd offer to do it over the weekend." Laura hummed, drumming her fingers along the table. "I have soccer after school, and I know you have baseball. So we'll have to wait until that's over."

"Alright, yeah… we could technically do it before school if we got here early." Lucas shrugged. "I plan on being as brief as possible to avoid stress."

"Understandable. Thought really, you don't have to tell me." Laura insisted giving him a worried look. "I'll be fine without knowing, if you're not up to it."

Lucas shrugged. "It's okay… I'm sure it'll get in the open somehow anyways and I'd rather you hear it from me."
