A soft color crept up on her face, and she returned the kiss happily. "That is very true. Still feels strange, though."
A soft color crept up on her face, and she returned the kiss happily. "That is very true. Still feels strange, though."
"Mhmm." Lucas led Melissa over to a table by the hand, still smiling gently.
As they came up to the table, she kept a hold on his hand as she sat. "You get lunch, yet?"
"Not yet. I can go get some, though." Lucas shrugged.
Nodding a bit, she gave him a light smile. "Mm, personally I'm not hungry."
"But you gotta eat, Mel…" Lucas whined. "Can I get you something? Anything?"
Pouting a bit, Melissa folded her arms on the table and rested her chin on them. "I'm not hungry, though… but if you insist, I guess I'll have an apple or something."
Lucas sighed softly. "Alright, alright… I'll be back." He stood up and went into the cafeteria to get food.
Melissa nodded a bit, keeping quiet as she traced letters into the table. 'I have got to get over this. I can't keep doing this to him, and myself.' She told herself, sucking in a deep breath and sitting up straight.
Lucas soon returned with two sandwiches and an apple. "I know you said you just wanted an apple, but I got you a sandwich too…"
Melissa glanced back at him, and sighed weakly. "Thank you, Lu." She told him with a soft smile. "I know I'm just being stupid about this."
"You're not being stupid, Mel." Lucas sat back down beside her. "It's all in your head. I have the same problem." He smiled weakly.
When he sat down, she leaned over and rested her head on his shoulder. "Yeah, I'm still being stupid about it though."
"No, you're not. I'm far stupider than you could ever be with the mental stuff." Lucas laughed weakly and rested his head against Melissa's.
"I just- it shouldn't be this hard, should it?" Melissa asked him softly, trying to relax. "Getting the thing that's tearing you apart, out of your head?"
"Mm… I wish it wasn't as hard as it is, Mel. We've got fucked up brains, after all."
Lifting her head up, she gave him a weak smile. "All thanks to the people who made it happen."
"All thanks to the people who made it happen." Lucas kissed Melissa's cheek softly.
"People suck sometimes. I wish life wasn't a bitch." Melissa mumbled, nuzzling her nose against his cheek.
"Mhmm…" Lucas pulled away so that he could start eating. "But hey. At least we have each other and we have the clearing."
"That's true. You're probably the only one that doesn't suck." Melissa hummed, kissing his cheek softly before picking up the apple he had brought.
"Glad you think so, Mel." Lucas smiled softly and took another bite of his sandwich. "I think you're pretty groovy yourself."
Laughing at his choice of words, she bit into the apple. "Groovy? Are you from the eighties, or something?"
"Of course I am. I'm hip with the kids." Lucas grinned and continued eating.
Rolling her eyes, she gave him a light laugh. "That you are…" She hummed softly, eating slowly.
"I'm so hip and groovy and cool." Lucas snickered and finished his sandwich.
"Mhmm, sure Lu." Melissa hummed, smiling softly. "Though you forgot the best part."
"Hmm?" Lucas looked up at Melissa, confused. "What do you mean?"
"I mean you forgot an an adjective." Melissa hummed, smirking some as she leaned in. "Dorky, because you're a total dork. But I love you because of it."
Lucas flushed a bit and huffed indignantly. "Am not… you're the dork. My dork." He stuck his tongue out playfully and booped Melissa's nose with one finger.
