Smiling brightly, she gave his hand a gentle squeeze. "That works. We just can't fall asleep again, we'd be here all night."
Smiling brightly, she gave his hand a gentle squeeze. "That works. We just can't fall asleep again, we'd be here all night."
"Mm. No promises, but I'll try my best." Lucas laughed softly and pushed through into the clearing.
As they did, Melissa pulled ahead so she could lead him over to the tree. "I've got enough chatter in me, I think I can keep you awake."
"Sounds good to me, Mel." Lucas sat down on the grass and sighed happily, still holding Melissa's hand.
Sitting down besides him, she threw her legs over his with a smile. "That's when I can't think of a thing to talk about."
"Naturally." Lucas lay his head on Melissa's shoulder and stuck his tongue out playfully through his grin.
"That's how the world seems to work…" Melissa hummed, resting her head on his. "Just wondering, but what are some of your favorite places to go? And things to do?"
"Well, you know this place is my number one favorite. But other than here, I like the sunflower field near my house, and… the beach is nice, um…"
"If you don't have anything else, that's alright. I was just asking." Melissa hummed, kissing the top of his head. "Trying to keep conversations."
Lucas nodded. "As for actual things I like doing, they're mostly tied to those places, to be honest… other than drawing, that is. I know I showed you my sketchbook."
"Mmm, right. That makes sense." Melissa chirped, biting on her lip as she sunk in to her thoughts. "Do you have a favorite kind of food?"
"Omelets, probably, but I'll eat just about anything." Lucas shrugged.
"Right… I've already asked you that." Melissa hummed, smiling softly. "I don't really have any other questions."
Lucas nodded. "If I think of anything else, I'll let you know, love."
“Lovely. That helps as I start to plan for a nice birthday.” Melissa purred, tipping his chin up so she could kiss him. “You deserve only the best.”
Lucas flushed a bit and stared down at the ground. "I-I… uh… thanks, Mel. I appreciate it."
Smiling softly, Melissa pecked his lips. “No need to thank me. I just want to see you happy.” She insisted, nuzzling her nose against his cheek.
"Well, thanks for wanting to see me happy. It's been a long time since anyone but you has cared." Lucas smiled weakly.
"Doesn't it really only matter that at least one person cares?" Melissa hummed, before leaning in to his arms. "I mean, having the whole world care sounds awful."
"True, true. I don't think I'd do well being famous. Not that I'm good enough at anything to become famous anyways." Lucas laughed softly.
Melissa hummed, trying to think. "You're good-looking, and a fine singer. You could maybe be a singer who never has concerts."
Lucas blushed a bit and looked down at the ground. "I guess… and, I mean… maybe I could become a professional baseball player someday."
Reaching out, she gently stroked the top of his head with a smile. "It's something you love doing. You have a shot if you work hard."
Lucas nodded, leaning into Melissa's gentle touch. "Mhmm… I don't really need anyone to know my name or anything. I just wanna have a job I enjoy."
"That sounds like the best plan." Melissa purred softly, sighing. "You know… if you like kids, I think they were looking for an assistant coach for the little league. I may be wrong, or you may have known that."
"Yeah, I was thinking of looking into that, actually… kids seem to like me for some reason." Lucas smiled softly as he looked up at Melissa.
"Probably because you're gentle. You never yell at anyone." Melissa listed, kissing his forehead. "You're super understanding, and helpful."
"Mmm… yeah, I guess so. I want people to feel safe around me, y'know? I hate being yelled at, so I try to never do it."
"Which I find very inviting. But clearly, the little kids like it too. I don't want to lose you to a six year old with pig-tails." Melissa hummed, keeping up an amused smile.
A gentle smile rose to Lucas's features. "You won't, darling. I don't think any of the boys are likely to have pigtails anyways." He laughed.
