A smile pulling up on her lips, she nodded before pecking his cheek. "Of course, I wouldn't have it any other way."
A smile pulling up on her lips, she nodded before pecking his cheek. "Of course, I wouldn't have it any other way."
Lucas nodded and returned the soft kiss. "Let's get going, then." He turned and started walking again.
Melissa followed along, trailing a bit behind him. "You know… us going on a date had me thinking. What do you wanna do for your birthday?" She asked softly, glancing down at their laced fingers.
Lucas flushed a bit and started thinking. "Um… I dunno. I don't really need much, to be honest. Maybe we can go to the clearing again?"
"But you're turning 17, Lu. That's a big deal." Melissa insisted, coming up to his side. "It's your last year before you're an adult. You're last birthday where you're still technically a kid."
"I guess." Lucas shrugged. "Honestly, it's been years since I've gotten any presents from anyone but you or even had a party. I'm not too worried about it."
"Mmmm, but I want you to have a good birthday. I want it to be special this year." She continued to try and change his mind. Though she'd just give in if he wasn't going to.
Lucas smiled weakly. "If you really want to have a party, I'll oblige. I just don't know what I'd want to do."
Glancing up at him, she shook her head. "If you don't want it, I don't want to force it on you." Melissa sighed, stepping up closer to him.
"I'm fine with it, Mel. Really." Lucas's smile softened as he looked over at Melissa.
A smile pulled on her lips when he did. "I just wasn't sure… if I do manage to get a party, it won't be extravagant. I promise."
"Sounds good to me, Mel. You can invite a couple of our other friends if you want, but I'd be happy just to hang out with you."
"We'll see what happens. I've got a few weeks to plan this." Mostly talking to herself, she leaned over to peck his cheek. "What do you want for your birthday? And don't say something cheesy like 'I just want to be with you'."
Lucas flushed lightly again, considering. "I-I… uh… honestly, I don't know. Like I said, it's been a while since I've had a party or anything for getting old."
"That shouldn't change the fact if you want something or not. Have you never wanted something before?" Melissa asked softly, keeping her pace the same.
Lucas shrugged. "I wanted you to date me." He laughed softly. "And… I wanted a puppy when I was little, but we got one of those."
She smiled and laughed lightly. "But you don't want anything right now?" Melissa asked, keeping her smile up.
"Not that I can think of, no… I mean, I would love a puppy, but that's rather out of our price range." Lucas laughed.
"Mmm… probably, yeah." Melissa sighed weakly, resting her head back on his shoulder. "I'm not sure I could convince my mom either."
"Probably not." Lucas pressed a soft kiss to Melissa's cheek. "Honestly, the fact that you want to celebrate at all is enough for me."
Melissa hummed, giving up trying to get a good answer out of him. "Alright, well I'm going to think of something fun to do at least. It would be sweet, as you've stuck around me for all this time."
"It was my pleasure to 'stick around you', darling." Lucas smiled softly. "I'll do whatever you want me to."
"That sounds awful… I feel like I'm forcing you to do things you don't want to do." Melissa mumbled, looking up at him with a half frown. "Please tell me that's not true."
"You're not forcing me to do anything, love. I'm happy to do it." Lucas gently brushed Melissa's cheek with his thumb.
"Mmm… if… if you're sure, Lu…" Melissa mumbled, leaning in to his gentle petting. "That feels nice…"
Lucas smiled softly and did it again. "Does it, love?" He asked, his voice scarcely more than a whisper.
"Y-yeah… it does." Melissa replied, her face coloring just a bit. "Honestly, I just wanna go back to the clearing…"
"Sounds good to me." Lucas gently kissed Melissa and turned to lead her back towards the clearing.
Her smile pulled up more, as he started to lead them on to the clearing. "We don't have long…"
"Well, we can spend our last few minutes there." Lucas grinned, pushing through the trees.
