"I know you do, and I have to admit, yeah it is. But if we don't fix it, it's only going to get worse." Melissa pointed out, standing on her toes to kiss his forehead. "And then you'll forever be 'bothering' me."
"I know you do, and I have to admit, yeah it is. But if we don't fix it, it's only going to get worse." Melissa pointed out, standing on her toes to kiss his forehead. "And then you'll forever be 'bothering' me."
Lucas sighed and flushed a bit, nodding again. "How are we going to gather up enough money for a therapist, though?"
"We can figure that out later. Right now we just need to find one." Melissa insisted, resting her head on his chest. "And then we figure out how to get the money."
"Alright…" He held her close and closed his eyes. "I'm kind of a mess, aren't I?" He laughed weakly.
Sighing, Melissa nodded gently at his statement. "Being honest, yeah. You kind of are. But as a teenager, you're not really suppose to have your life planned out perfectly."
"I suppose not… it's just… I can't even be alone, a lot of the time. I'm… I'm so unstable emotionally right now that I can't even always control what I'm doing."
"And that's just another reason why I need you to wake me up. I don't want you hurting yourself because I couldn't help you." She whispered as she pulled back.
Lucas nodded. "I'll try, but I may not remember in the moment… but I'll try my best, Mel. I promise."
"That's all I ask." Melissa continued to whisper, smiling softly at his response. She felt all the more better because of that." I love you, and I hope you know that."
"I love you too, Mel." Lucas matched her gentle smile and eventually pulled away. "Ready to head back to the park?" He asked.
"I'm gonna find my dad first. You can come with me, or just wait here." Melissa hummed, pecking his lips as she started off. "It's up to you."
"I'll go with you." Lucas smiled softly and started following Melissa down the hall.
Melissa smiled, glancing back to him. "I'm not even sure where he's at…" Leading him along, she came up to a spare office near the end of the hall. Knocking lightly on the door, she heard a soft "Come in" on the other side. So she pushed the door open, still smiling. "Hey dad."
Lucas stood quietly in the doorway while Melissa went in. He watched curiously, but tried not to intrude.
Lifting his head, Mr. Brennahan smiled at the sight of the two. "Hey you two. I'm assuming you're already heading back out?" Humming just a bit, he shut his laptop so he could see the two better. "Of course, as long as that's alright with you."
Lucas fidgeted a bit as he watched, still keeping quiet. He nodded when Mr. Brennahan asked the question.
"Oh, of course you are. I don't really care what you two do, as long as you're safe." He nodded with a soft smile at the two. "Just be home before it gets too dark. I don't want you walking home at night." With that said, Melissa smiled back as she started to make her way out the door. "Thanks papa! Love you." She called over her shoulder, taking Lucas's hand to lead him out.
"Thank you, sir!" Lucas waved with his free hand, only visible for another second as Melissa dragged him away. "Your dad is really nice." He said once they were outside.
“It’s so strange… I never really noticed before.” Melissa admitted, nodding a bit as she led them to the front door. “I guess I just wasn’t paying good enough attention.”
Lucas shrugged. "If he suspects we're together, he at least seems to be okay with it. It's nice, you know?"
"Mhmm," Pulling the front door open, Melissa glanced back over to him. "It's funny, because if it was anyone but you, he would be the 'you can't have a boyfriend' kind of dad. Or at least, that's what I think."
Lucas blushed a bit and looked away. "I-I mean… he knows me. He can probably tell that I am far too anxious to try anything."
"Yup, my thought process exactly." Melissa chirped, wrapping her arms around his neck with a sweet smile. "And I would never purposely put you in a situation like that."
"Thank God… I-I mean, I love you and all, but I think we both know I'd be terrified." Lucas laughed weakly.
Nodding a bit, she smiled weakly. "I promise, I won't ever force you to do something you don't want. You just have to say no." She whispered a bit, kissing his forehead.
Lucas nodded and returned the kisses. "And I promise you the same, Mel." He smiled gently and kept walking.
A soft smile spread over her lips, as she took a moment to savor his sweet kiss. "I love you." Melissa mumbled a bit, following after him.
"I love you too, darling." Lucas kept walking, his smile lingering.
After a minute or two of walking along in silence, Melissa looked around their surrounding area with little interest. "We're headed back to the park, right?"
"Yeah, of course. Where else would we be going?" Lucas asked curiously, lacing his fingers with Melissa's.
