Baylee's frown never truly left his face, despite her attempts to wipe it off. He understood exactly what she was doing and didn't like it. Not one bit. Packaging bad memories and feelings into boxes is what he'd done all his life and it nearly ruined him. Seeing her immediate mood change set off all sorts of alarms in his mind and despite her insistence that she was fine, the bartender knew he would have to bring it up later.
"Well…..' Baylee blinked a couple of times in thought, contemplating continuing the conversation right now. But…..this was neither time or place. He made a mental note to mention it again and he finally let his frown slip from his face. "Yeah….sure." He could tell Mila could since his uneasiness, so a quick topic change was needed. "Hey, why don't we get some ice cream? The last sweet thing I had was that shake yesterday."
"You hardly even had any of that shake, Bay." Mila laughed as he took her hand and lead her back down to the more populated decks. Ice cream was a wonderful way to drown out the noise in her head, and the singer was quite suddenly overcome with an intense feeling of appreciation and love for the man walking ahead of her.
A feather soft smile eased it's way onto her still tense features as she watched Baylee–who was entirely focused on finding the free ice cream–and was struck that after everything, all those memories that threatened to drown her, Mila was here in this moment. She was holding hands with the man that she had fallen so deeply for, she doubted she'd ever recover if something went wrong.
And Baylee? God he was incredible. Even if he didn't think so. Especially now as the bright sunlight slid across his tanning skin, lighting up the green of his fierce gaze, and the slight smile that he seemed to be unaware of really made him stunning.
So in all–Mila was happy.
Who needed that box of shit in her head anyway? Again she forced down all that lingering crap, firmly tightening all the mental locks on it that she could. The past was the past. Baylee took that moment to glance over his shoulder at her and Mila couldn't help it…she beamed.
