"Mmkay…" Lucas sat down as instructed and just focused on not getting blood on the floor for now.
"Mmkay…" Lucas sat down as instructed and just focused on not getting blood on the floor for now.
“I was just making toast for breakfast…” Melissa mumbled under her breath, gathering the bandages to fix him up once again. “Is that alright with you?”
"Yeah, toast is fine with me…" Lucas kept staring down at his arms, zoning out a little bit as he did so.
Crouching down in front of him, she took a hold of his hand to start wrapping his arm. “Do you still want soda, or did you wanna skip it?” Melissa asked softly, attempting to distract his thoughts from hurting him.
"Mm?" Lucas looked up at her, still a little dazed. "Um… I dunno… caffeine might still be good. I'm still really tired."
"Makes sense… I'm gonna have to keep my eye on you for the rest of the day." She added mindlessly, her thoughts starting to wander a bit. "I don't want you to hurt yourself anymore."
Lucas nodded. "Alright… I'm still really sorry, Mel…" He sighed softly and winced a bit when Melissa continued bandaging up his arms.
"What are you sorry about? You've said it so many times, I've lost track what your apologizing for at this point." Melissa sighed, finishing up his one arm so she could switch to the other.
"For… for inconveniencing you, and for not being able to control myself…" Lucas sighed and examined the bandages.
"I've told you before, and I'll tell you as many times as you say it, you aren't inconveniencing me. So don't apologize for that." Melissa insisted, speaking softly while she tried to focus. "And I just ask that you try to be more careful. Don't feel bad for something you can't control."
Lucas nodded a bit and looked down at the floor guiltily. He rubbed at the bandages on his arms when Melissa had finished with them. "Have you put the toast in yet? If so, it's probably burnt…"
"I hadn't yet. It's sitting there right now, just waiting for me to start it." Melissa whispered, pulling back to put away the bandages. "It'll take five minutes from there."
"Alright…" Lucas sighed and stood up from where he was sitting, still gently running his hands along the bandages. "We should probably go do that, then."
“Yeah. Though you need to stop messing with the bandages.” Melissa hummed softly, taking his hand so she could lead him along down stairs.
"Right…" Lucas allowed Melissa to pull him along, trying to focus his thoughts on the present instead of the past. He was still a little distant and tense, but he was doing somewhat better than before.
“Mmm, do you just want butter on your toast?” Melissa asked softly, turning her head to face him as they entered the kitchen.
"Yeah, butter is fine…" Lucas glanced back at her meekly. "Can I help you with it?" He asked.
Delightfully surprised, she nodded with a smile. “Of course, I’d love your help Lu.” Melissa hummed, bopping the tip of his nose.
Lucas flushed a bit and looked away, smiling weakly. "I… um… y-yeah, great. Where is it?" He asked.
“The butter? It’s in the fridge.” Melissa hummed with her soft smile. “On the door, near the top.” Instructing him, she pulled away to go make the toast.
Lucas nodded. "Um… how much do we need?" He asked, heading over to the fridge and looking through it for the butter.
"Just pull the whole stick out. It varies from how much you want." Melissa shrugged a bit, brushing her hair back before pulling it up out of her face.
"Okay." Lucas grabbed the stick of butter and brought it back over to Melissa. "Here you are, Mel."
"Mmm, thanks." She chirped with a soft smile. "Could you grab two plates? It doesn't matter what you grab, as long as it can hold toast."
"Yeah, sure." Lucas opened the cupboard and soon returned with two simple, blue plates. "Here you go, Mel."
"Thank you… soda should be in the fridge." Melissa hummed, pecking his cheek as she took the plates. "Just grab on for yourself."
"Alright, thanks." Lucas found a root beer in the fridge and cracked it open before returning to Melissa's side. "Feels weird drinking soda so early… or, uh… ever."
Melissa glanced over her shoulder at him with a smile. "Not a soda person?" She asked with a raised brow and a smile.
Lucas shrugged. "It's alright, we just never really bought it at my house…" He took a sip and shivered a bit. "Very sugary…"
Laughing lightly, Melissa had a smile pulling up on her lips. “Don’t read the ingredients. You’d probably be mortified.” She teased, pulling the toast out. “Do you want to put the butter on?”
