Lucas looked up at Melissa sheepishly, his eyes brimming with tears. "R-Really…?" He asked softly. "I… I almost called you too, but I wasn't stable… didn't want to scare you…"
Lucas looked up at Melissa sheepishly, his eyes brimming with tears. "R-Really…?" He asked softly. "I… I almost called you too, but I wasn't stable… didn't want to scare you…"
"I did, I-" Her voice gave way, and she couldn't force herself to keep talking anymore. It was hard enough holding her aching heart back from him, but balancing her thoughts and responses on top was getting too difficult.
A couple tears rolled down Lucas's cheeks and he quickly brushed them away. "I… I'm sorry, Mel… I'm so sorry…"
Visually she was struggling to hold back her tears at the sight of his. "Don't… don't be." She insisted weakly, burying her face back in her hands. "C-can we go… go snuggle up on the couch?" Melissa asked weakly, letting a few of the stinging tears run down her face.
Lucas nodded and got up shakily. He took Melissa's hand, kissed her softly, and led her over to the couch to lie down.
Melissa followed along, lying down next to him. She looked up, and stared up at the ceiling trying to collect herself. "I love you…"
"I love you too…" Lucas whispered, huddling close to Melissa to comfort them both. "I'm so sorry…"
Linking their fingers together, she counted her breathing in her head to try and relax more. "You don't have to be sorry…"
"But I do… I should've told you, Mel. I'm a horrible friend. We wouldn't even be in this situation if I told you…"
Pressing a soft kiss to his lips, Melissa pulled back just a bit so she could talk. "You couldn't though. I don't blame you, I shouldn't have asked you why you didn't tell me. I know why. Don't be sorry, we both know you couldn't tell me. No matter how much you wanted to."
Lucas nodded a bit and closed his eyes, burying his face in Melissa's shoulder again as he clung to her.
"I love you, and I don't blame you for any of this." Melissa whispered, tracing circles into his hand slowly. "Please don't beat yourself up about this."
Lucas nodded again, keeping himself huddled close to Melissa. "I-I… um… is there anything else you want to know?"
"Not now… I can't think of anything." Melissa whispered, turning so she could be facing him. "Besides, I think you've had enough."
Lucas looked up at her weakly, his cheeks blotted with pink from crying. "W… We can continue tomorrow if you want to…"
"I'm fine, Lucas. We don't need to." Melissa insisted, pressing her lips to his forehead. "I'll just come talk to you, if I have questions."
Lucas nodded and buried his face in her shoulder again. "I-I… okay… don't be afraid to ask questions if you want…"
Melissa pulled a weak smile on her lips, silently stroking his hair. "I can do that…" She whispered, humming softly while she pet him.
Lucas relaxed a bit when Melissa started petting him. His breathing gradually became more calm as the minutes went by.
"I know it's early, but do you want to go to bed?" Melissa asked softly, feeling quite drained herself. After a nice shower, she'd probably head to bed herself.
"Probably soon, yeah… I'm fading." Lucas sighed and yawned quietly. "Crying tends to drain me…"
“I think it drains a lot of people.” Melissa hummed softly, pressing a soft kiss to the top of his head. “If you want me to go grab you a blanket so you can sleep, I don’t mind.”
Lucas hesitated before nodding a bit. "Um… Yeah, if you don't mind, that would be great… Thanks, Mel."
Melissa smiled nodding softly. “Of course, Lu. I don’t mind at all.” She hummed sliding off of the couch.
Lucas curled in on himself when Melissa separated from him, closing his eyes again when she was gone.
Quickly she ran off to pull out an extra blanket or two, along with a few softer pillows for him to sleep on. When she gathered the pile, Melissa carried them back down the stairs to him. “Are you a one blanket, or two kinda guy?”
"Anything is fine, Mel… thank you." He looked up at her from where he was curled up on the couch. "Sorry I'm such a mess all the time…"
"Don't be, Lu." Melissa insisted, handing him one of the pillows she had brought down. "I'm doing this, and am here because I love and care about you."
Lucas nodded and hugged the pillow close to his chest. "I love you too, Mel…" He said softly. He huddled into the blankets when they were given to him.
Smiling softly down at him, she leaned in pressing a soft kiss to the top of his head. "If you're comfortable, I'm going to go take a shower before heading to bed."
