"Mm. Hopefully you're not imprisoned in a tower." He laughed. "Lead the way, Mel. I don't know how to get to the store."
"Mm. Hopefully you're not imprisoned in a tower." He laughed. "Lead the way, Mel. I don't know how to get to the store."
"It feels like it sometimes." Melissa sighed, taking his hand and leading him on slowly. "Do you have a preference what store? I don't really care."
"It doesn't matter to me. I don't know much about clothes." Lucas laced his fingers with Melissa's and sighed softly.
“Works by me.” Melissa nodded with a bright smile. “Just thought I’d ask first.”
Lucas returned the expression and let her lead him along. "How long does it take to get to wherever you're taking me?"
Melissa glanced back at him, before taking the time to answer. "It shouldn't take long, it's right down the street." She hummed, watching her steps carefully.
"Alright." Lucas trailed after her, humming softly to himself as he looked around. "It's a really nice day…"
"Mhmm… lovely day…" Melissa responded rather bleakly, seeming distracted in her own thoughts. "Especially here with you…" She tacked onto the end, trying to sound more like she was paying attention.
"Are you okay?" Lucas asked, sounding a bit concerned. "You seem… off. Distant. Did I do something?"
Melissa looked back at him once again, pulling on a smile. "I'm fine… just thinking. You didn't do anything wrong."
Lucas nodded a bit, still not completely convinced, but not wanting to argue. "Alright… if you say so."
"You really didn't, I'm just being weird. Don't worry about it, Lucas." She attempted to reassure him, slowing her pace so she could fall in step besides him.
He nodded again and tightened his grip on Melissa's hand a bit. He kissed her softly and kept walking.
"I guess I'm savoring the moments I get to be with you, like this." She mumbled, resting her head on his shoulder. "I'm still waiting to hear if I'm getting punished or not… and then I can't be like this with you at home."
"Mm… true. They can't really punish you… your friend is sick and I was badly hurt. It's not like you could just ignore that, right? He could've killed me if I stayed in there longer."
Sighing, Melissa nodded gently as she tightened her grip on his hand. “Yeah… I just hate the anxious feeling of waiting.” She mumbled, as they came out of the clearing. “Even if they aren’t going to ground me, I wish they would just tell me. But I don’t want to bring it up, and get grounded because I mentioned punishment.”
Lucas shrugged. "I'm sure they'll make up their minds at some point, and it's not like they can ban you and I from hanging out because I literally have nowhere else to go."
"Watch, you'll see how difficult they can be." Melissa mumbled, catching sight of an opening leading out of the park. "It shouldn't be much further once we're out of the park."
Lucas nodded a bit. "If they have the conversation with both of us, I'll try my best to convince them, okay? You haven't done anything wrong."
Melissa lifted her head up off his shoulder, frowning tightly at him. "I don't want you to have to do that. That's way out of your comfort zone."
"I know, but still. I don't want you getting in trouble for something that's technically my fault, Mel." Lucas sighed.
Pausing in her steps, Melissa crossed her arms over her chest. "I invited you over to my house, after being there for two days alone. I never bothered to call and inform my parents I wasn't at Laura's house, or anyone else for that matter. What I did was stupid, and wasn't your fault in the slightest. If anything, you probably wouldn't be as hurt if I had just called my parents in the first place."
Lucas sighed again. "I-I know, but still… I feel at least partially responsible and guilty and I wanna make it right…"
"You shouldn't feel guilty," Melissa hummed, pecking his lips before continuing on. "It wasn't your fault. You just happened to be there."
"But your parents probably wouldn't be mad if I wasn't there… at least not as mad. Now they're assuming we did stuff while we were alone…"
"They did think that. We don't know for sure, if they still do." She attempted to explain, slowly running her fingers through his hair.
"I guess so… your dad seems to suspect that we like each other, but he also seems like he's okay with it?"
"I'm not really worried about him. It's mom that I'm worried about…" Melissa mumbled, pausing in their walking as they hit the cross walk.
"Yeah…" Lucas sighed. "She's a tad intense. She's certainly got a way of making people feel guilty even if they haven't really done anything…"
"You better believe it." Melissa mumbled, watching as the light changed from red to green so they could go. "But you get use to it after awhile."
