Sighing heavily, Melissa had finished cleaning up his arms. Glancing up at his lip, she bit on her own softly trying to think. "I can't do much about that, but what about your side? And legs?" She asked him gently, pressing her thumb to his bleeding lip.
"Um… I've got a few scrapes on my sides and stuff, but they're all pretty shallow. I'm not too worried about them. Same deal with my legs." Lucas looked up at Melissa when she touched his lip.
"But they could get infected." Melissa argued with him, a tired look falling over her face. "Are you just embarrassed? Because I could care less right now. You being alright is what matters."
"Embarrassed about what?" Lucas asked curiously. "Falling? That wasn't my fault, anyway. I was being careful, that rock just came loose…"
"No, I mean about me fixing up your side and stuff." Melissa explained, pressing a soft kiss to his forehead. "I don't think I can take you getting hurt anymore."
Lucas sighed softly. "Honestly, those scrapes aren't bad. I had a layer of cloth between me and the wall there. My arms had nothing."
"Well, they're clean now. So I'll wrap you up." Melissa whispered, pulling a small bandage wrap from the bag. "Can I see your arm?"
"Mhmm." Lucas held one arm out to Melissa so she could bandage it. "We should probably head back after this."
"Yeah…" She whispered back, slowly wrapping up his wrists. After the soft reply she didn't say much, feeling dazed after the adrenaline running through her.
"Are you okay, Melissa?" Lucas asked softly, watching Melissa's expression. "I didn't mean to upset you…"
It took her a moment to come from her thoughts, looking up to him rid of a smile. "No, I'm fine… just worried." Melissa admitted, flicking her gaze back to the task at hand.
"I'm sorry…" Lucas sighed. "I'm just stupid… just a stupid boy who makes stupid decisions. Thanks for helping me out."
Pausing what she was doing again, she looked up to him with a frown. "You're not stupid." Melissa told him, her shoulders sinking. "And you didn't make a stupid decision. It was just an accident, you couldn't control."
Lucas stared down at the ground, feeling guilty. His own shoulders hunched up a bit as he attempted to hide in plain sight.
Once she finished up on his bandages, Melissa lifted her gaze up to his face feeling ten times worse. "Hey, seriously don't worry about me. I'm fine, Lu. And from what I can tell now, so are you."
Lucas looked up at Melissa weakly. "But I scared you… I'm sorry… I-I never should've gone up…" He sighed. "This cliff is steeper than the ones I'm used to anyways, and it doesn't have as many footholds…"
"Lu, don't blame yourself. I should have trusted you more, I was just worried." She whispered, forcing a small smile up onto her lips. "And hey, aren't you glad I didn't go up with you? One or both of us could have gotten a lot more injured."
"Yeah…" Lucas laughed weakly. "I couldn't bear to see you hurt like this…" He dragged himself to his feet and held out one hand to Melissa. "We should head back."
Instead of taking his hand, she slid her arm around his waist in a gentle hug. "Mhmm, we should." Melissa hummed softly, pulling his arm over her shoulders to link their fingers together. "First, did you want to stop by the store?"
"Yeah, we should probably do that first… I don't know how to get to the store, so I'll let you lead." Lucas smiled softly and let Melissa take the lead.
At his words, a true smile tugged at her lips as she slowly led him back where they had started. "Alright rocky, I can do that." Melissa chirped, kissing his lips softly before continuing on.
Lucas blushed and huffed indignantly. "That one better not stick…" He sighed, letting her drag him along.
"Mmm, I dunno. I think it's kinda cute." Melissa teased, biting onto the edge of her lip as they walked on. "Maybe we can name our puppy Rocky."
"I'm alright with that. Rocky's a pretty good name for a dog, but not for me." Lucas kissed Melissa's cheek softly.
"Well why not?" Melissa asked him softly, her face warming at the contact. "You could be a rocky. As a nickname at least."
"Because… I dunno. I don't wanna be rocky, I guess." Lucas shrugged, pushing some branches out of their way so they could get through.
"Alright, alright fine. You win." Melissa caved, pulling her hand from his to move branches from in front of her. "Though I'm totally using it at a baseball game."
Lucas sighed. "Please doooon't…" He whined playfully, blushing a bit. "They're gonna ask questions about it…"
"And you'll have to tell them to ask your girlfriend about it." Melissa smirked, continuing on. "Or you can tell them you're a rock climber. Either works for me."
Lucas blushed harder and looked away, clearly flustered. "They'd get on my case about that even more…"
