As he flipped through her book, she felt her heart beat all the way down in her toes. She cared a lot about what he thought considering how long they’d known each other, and she couldn’t really tell how she felt about that.
I want something wonderful
The problem is
There are different types of wonderful
I want to lift my face to the sky
And let my skin soak up the beams
But I also want to lay in the dark
And watch the stars wink at each other.
Or maybe I could soar
And watch the gray burst into colorful flames
But there’s also something beautiful about dwaling about a monochromatic world.
So then
You see my dilemma
For there are many paths to lead
Many lives to choose
All of which make my heart sing.
There was a little sketch of a bird in the corner of that page, and she found herself staring at it while waiting for him to finish reading.
He was still staring at the page long before he finished reading. Then he finally, slowly shut the book and handed it back to her.
"Beautiful." His gaze lifted to her face. She really was beautiful.
She breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank you,” she breathed, thinking he was only talking about the words. “I tried pretty hard with that one, but there are others that are more of a work in progress.”
(Hey.. you still up for this?? I'm so so so sorry for just disappearing)
(Absolutely! No problem tho, I haven't been on much myself anyway. Maybe we should do a bit of planning since we've been away for a while?)
(That's probably smart. So, Theo's mom just died, right? And Theo is reading Piper's writing journal)
(Absolutely. I'm thinking Piper gets busy with some scheduling issues and plans to leave sooner than she originally did, so there's a bit more conflict between them since Theo feels alone and Piper has to leave. What do you think?)
He felt the corner of his lips lift up slightly in a smile, and looked away. "Do you only write poetry?" he asked, watching as cars drove in and out of the parking lot.
"No," she replied as she followed his gaze. "I also write short stories and things; really I just write whatever I want to whenever I want to. there isn't any structure in my methods." She smiled. "I honestly don't know whether that's good or bad."
After a moment of silence, she steered the subject back to his current situation. "I think it would be best for us to go inside now," she said as she reached for his hand to squeeze. "Are you ready?"
He took her hand and gladly and, ignoring the growing weight in his stomach, he nodded. He got to his feet, heart thundering. « Ready as I’ll ever be. »
He paused a moment, trying to think of what his mother would look like in her bed, eyes closed, the tube stuck down her throat.
(lmbo sorry)
She stood and, after waiting for him to do the same, got up and walked up the stairs. She could basically feel how much heavier he had become; she wished she could do more. After going into the double doors, they passed the receptionist and went straight back up to her room. They only paused when they got to the door.
"Are you ready?" Piper asked him as she squeezed his hand again.
