Lucas was soft and quiet when he was sleeping. He looked almost fragile. Delicate. The bandages didn't help his case. He just looked so tired, but he was still gently smiling in his sleep despite himself.
Lucas was soft and quiet when he was sleeping. He looked almost fragile. Delicate. The bandages didn't help his case. He just looked so tired, but he was still gently smiling in his sleep despite himself.
Pressing a soft kiss to his forehead, she tossed the second blanket over him before making herself get up. If he slept for long enough, she could have time to make him breakfast. So regretfully, she pulled herself off the couch and out of his reach.
Lucas didn't seem to be waking up anytime soon, so Melissa had plenty of time. Waking up in the middle of the night had made him more tired.
After about half an hour, she had made him breakfast, and made herself a little something so he would be happy. Melissa had made him tea, assuming he liked it, and had it all set on a tray to carry into the living room.
A few minutes later, Lucas finally started stirring. "Mmmmmm… Melissa…?" He mumbled sleepily as he looked up.
Coming around the corner, she gave him a soft smile carefully walking up to the couch. "Hey sleepy head, how'd you sleep?" Melissa asked him softly, setting the tray on the coffee table.
"Meh… woke up in the middle of the night for some reason…" He yawned and sat up, rubbing at his tired eyes. "Got some water and went back to bed."
"I'm sorry, I hope it was just a fluke." She hummed, picking up the mug and holding it out to him. "You ready for some breakfast? I made bacon and eggs." Melissa offered, giving a sweet smile.
"Oh!" Lucas looked at all the food, just now noticing it. "Y-You didn't have to do that, Mel." He insisted, flushing a bit. "Thank you, though. Do you have anything?"
"Of course I do." She hummed, picking up her own plate and fork to start eating. "You would refuse to eat otherwise. I didn't want to waste food."
Lucas smiled softly and picked up his own plate. "I like to see you learning." He hummed softly and took a bite of his eggs. "Mm… really good, Mel."
"Not the best around. But thanks." She hummed, eating slowly. Of course, she didn't fill her plate with heaping amounts, but just enough to satisfy Lucas.
Lucas finished his food relatively quickly and stretched. He was glad to be getting food, to be honest. Him not eating at his own house wasn't for lack of trying or not wanting to. He simply had no food there.
"You still hungry? I can get you more if you are." Melissa offered with a hum, setting her own finished plate aside. "Or anything else that you need."
"No, I'm fine Mel. Thank you." Lucas stood up and took their plates to the sink. He began washing them, humming softly to himself as he did so.
Coming up behind him, she wrapped her arms around his waist. She had grabbed one of the blankets, having it wrapped over her shoulders. "What do we want to do today?"
"Mm… anything's fine with me, Mel." Lucas soon finished up the dishes and turned around so he could hug her in return.
Laughing softly, she leaned her head up against his forehead. "I'd say we just stay here, but if we don't want to be around parents, then we should go out." Melissa hummed, ignoring the sound of footsteps.
Lucas pulled away from Melissa when he heard the footsteps. "We could go out to the park again if you want."
Frowning slightly when he pulled away, she glanced over her shoulder to see her father walk in the room. "I…I don't want to drag you back there. We can always find somewhere else." Melissa offered to him.
"You're not dragging me, Melissa. I like the park. It's one of my favorite places to go."
Taking his hand in her own, she put on a small smile. "Let me get dressed, and then we can head out. Sound good?" She hummed, brushing his hair back with her free hand.
Lucas blushed a bit. "Um… y-yeah, alright." He pulled away again reluctantly. He wouldn't normally, but Melissa's father being in the room made him nervous.
Giving up trying to hold on to him, she turned to run up the stairs to go change. "There's food on the stove if you want it papa." She hummed before ducking out of the room. Glancing over to the stove, he gave a soft smile to Lucas. "Morning. Did you sleep well?"
"Um… yes, sir. Thank you. Did you?" Lucas asked, still a bit flushed. "I kinda wake up in the middle of the night sometimes, but that's typical for me…"
"I slept quite alright. Just like usual. Can I get you anything? Cup of coffee?" He hummed, starting up the coffee pot. It was the same routine daily, with the added step of making conversation.
"I'm alright, sir. Thank you, though." Lucas moved to get out of his way. "Coffee tends to give me horrible headaches."
"Of course, thought I would offer at least." He nodded slightly. "I can see why my daughter likes you so much, you're a polite young man." Mr. Brennahan mentioned causally, focusing on the coffee.
Lucas blushed a bit, fidgeting with his hands. "Er… t-thank you, sir." He stammered. Honestly, he was polite in early life due to his mother, and now especially so out of necessity. If he didn't call his father sir, he was severely punished.
Chuckling softly, Mr. Brennahan filled his plate and carried it over to the table. "What are you kids doing today? Anything special?" He asked Lucas, setting the food aside.
