One of my best friends turned out to be a manipulating compulsive liar who deleted their main account and then came back on another, tried to convince the site I was younger than I am, and was a piece of shit. So yes, I am suspicious of many newbies. Plus my CPTSD and general trust issues, I don't remember the last time I met a newbie without assuming the worst.
