"Alright…" Lucas relaxed a little and brought his thumb to his lower lip. He swiped it across and examined the smear of blood with a thoughtful hum.
Rather surprised to see blood on his lip, she came back up to him and titled his head up so she could look at him. “What happened? Did I punch you in the face, and not know it?”
"No, no… I was biting it to distract myself and I guess I got a bit carried away." He sighed softly. Fresh blood beaded on his lip when Melissa tilted his chin up to look at her.
Carefully she ran her thumb over his lip, pouting. “I could’ve given you a washcloth like yesterday. Or something else. I don’t like it when you hurt yourself.” Melissa mumbled, watching the blood start to come back after she wiped it away.
"Well, I didn't mean to…" Lucas sighed, holding the back of his hand over his bleeding lip to slow the blood flow.
"Yeah, you didn't mean to almost kill yourself earlier. But it still happened." She sassed, putting a hand to her hip, and using the other to flick down on his nose gently. "If you aren't careful, something bad is going to happen to you."
Lucas blushed a bit and looked down at the floor, feeling guilty. "I-I know… you're right. I'm sorry, Mel…" He sighed softly.
"Of course I'm right, but I'm only saying this because I care about you." Melissa hummed, bending down in front of him. "I'm just trying to make sure you don't hurt yourself."
Lucas nodded a bit and looked up at her weakly. "I… I'll try harder, Mel. I-I mean, I'm trying my best, but I'll make myself do more…"
"That's not what I'm asking of you, I'm not really asking you anything. I can do the taking care of part, you just have to let me." She told him softly, resting a hand on his shoulders. "That's all I need you to do."
Lucas was stalled for a couple of seconds, his cheeks slowly flushing again. "I-I… um… yeah. I… I think I can do that, Mel."
Gently pressing her lips to his forehead, she smiled. "Good. Now, let's get those bandages on, shall we?" Melissa asked him softly, pulling back from him.
Lucas blushed harder and nodded, fidgeting with his hands nervously. He was clearly very flustered and not quite sure what to do.
"Do you think you'll start biting on your lip again? Because I can get you something else instead." She offered, unrolling the bandages to start wrapping his head.
"Um… I-I think I'll be okay… I don't think this will hurt as much." Lucas kept one finger on his lip so the bleeding would stop.
Giving him a soft smile, she began to slowly wrap up his head wound. "How tired are you? I know we both took a nap earlier, so I'm assuming not as tired."
"Still kinda tired, but I'm always kinda tired…" Lucas closed his eyes and tried to relax while Melissa bandaged him up. "Why?"
"Just wondering how late we should stay up tonight. That's all." She hummed back softly, tightening her bandaging as she came near the end.
"Mm." Lucas winced slightly, but was otherwise still. "Is it finished?" He asked when the bandages were tied, running his fingertips over them gently.
"Yeah, all done." Melissa smiled weakly, tilting his chin up to look at his lip. "I'd try and do something about that, but I don't think I can."
"I'll just get a damp paper towel or something. It's not a big deal." Lucas shrugged a bit, relaxing at Melissa's touch.
"As long as it doesn't hurt, I'll let you deal with it." She smiled, leaning in and pressing a kiss to his bandaged head. "Maybe that'll help it get better sooner."
Lucas flushed again when Melissa kissed him. "Y-Yeah… you… uh, you've got paper towels in the kitchen, right?" He asked.
"Mhmm, they're sitting by the sink." Melissa directed him, before gathering the medical supplies. "There's also ice packs in the freezer."
Lucas nodded and stood up, stretching a bit and waiting for Melissa before heading downstairs with her. He nodded politely to Melissa's father and dampened a paper towel to press against his bleeding lip.
Smiling at seeing the two, he watched Lucas as he held a paper towel to his lip. "Everything alright? Did Melissa beat you up?" He teased, gathering papers and things alike. "Papa…" Melissa whined slightly, feeling her face heat up.
"N-No, sir." Lucas flushed a bit as well and laughed weakly. "The disinfectant hurts really bad. I bit down a little too hard on my lip. No big deal." He winced and looked at the blood spreading through the water on his paper towel.
Leaning against the counter gently, Melissa watched Lucas with a slight frown. "I really wish we had known sooner about all of this, or even if we didn't, all you had to do was ask." Mr. Brennahan told him softly, walking up to the two.
Lucas nodded, looking down at the floor guiltily. "Y-Yeah… sorry, sir. I… I was just afraid he'd get worse, to be honest…"
"Don't be sorry, I'm sorry we weren't able to help you." He nodded slightly, pulling the refrigerator open. "I'm going to head to bed, you kids should probably do the same. Lights out no later than 12:30." Mr. Brennahan hummed, pulling the water pitcher out. "But you can stay up until then."
