Lucas blushed harder and buried his red face in Melissa's shoulder. "Y-You think so…?" He asked weakly.
Lucas blushed harder and buried his red face in Melissa's shoulder. "Y-You think so…?" He asked weakly.
Stroking his back softly, she rested her head on his. "I really do. It's incredibly soothing to hear your voice." Melissa whispered, circling her index finger over the fabric of his shirt.
Lucas looked up at Melissa meekly and nodded. "I… I-I'm glad you like it, Mel…" He stammered. Gradually, his heart was beginning to slow down.
"You think you're gonna be alright?" She asked him softly, resting her index finger under his chin.
"Y-Yeah… m'alright, I just need a minute…" Lucas took a few deep breaths and seemed to relax a bit.
Nodding softly, she took the time to study his face. He was honestly too cute. Though his eyes were what always caught Melissa's attention. They were stunning, and she had always thought so.
After a couple minutes, Lucas seemed to have calmed himself down. "S-Sorry about that, Mel… my heart was just… my heart was really going, ya know?"
"Mhmm, it's alright Lucas." Melissa hummed, running her fingers through her hair slowly. "You don't need to apologize for a thing. I asked you to do something, and you did an amazing job."
Lucas flushed again and stared at the ground. "I-I'm really not all that good, Mel… but I'm glad that you think so."
"Come on, don't be like that." Melissa whispered, scooting over closer to him. "I wouldn't lie to you about something like that. Isn't my opinion valuable to you?"
"Of course your opinion is valuable to me!" Lucas insisted, still flustered and nervous. "Why wouldn't it be?"
"You keep saying you aren't good, and I think you are." Melissa nudged him, before resting her head on his shoulder. "So I was asking, because you seemed so sure you weren't."
Lucas fidgeted nervously, not sure sure how to respond. "I-I… Um… agree to disagree…?" He offered weakly.
"Fine, though next time you bring it up, I'm still going to argue with you about it." Melissa teased, giving his opposite shoulder a light squeeze. "Are you getting hungry?"
Lucas sighed and shook his head. "I guess I can't stop you…" He looked up again at the question. "Um… I guess? It's probably too late to eat anything, though."
"Nonsense. If you're hungry, we'll feed you." Melissa smiled brightly, pushing herself up off the steps of the porch. "Come on, we should go find something to feed you."
Lucas sighed again and followed Melissa inside. "You don't need to feed me. I can feed myself perfectly well, you know. I have well developed motor skills."
Stopping in the doorway, she took one more glance at the night sky with a soft smile. “I know that, but- oh whatever. Let’s get you some food, you dork.” She hummed, taking his hand and pulled him along to the kitchen.
Lucas rolled his eyes and allowed her to drag him along. "I really don't need much, Mel. We already ate lunch today."
“But you should eat dinner. Especially if you’re hungry.” Melissa argued back, loosely lacing her fingers in his.
"But I can't just take all your food!" Lucas insisted, tightening his grip on Melissa a bit. "That's yours."
"And I'm feeding my new pet with it." Looking back at him she grinned, biting into her lip. "Speaking of which, you might need a bath tomorrow."
Lucas blushed again. "I-I'm not your pet!" He insisted. "But you're right about me needing a shower… there's still some blood in my hair and it's bothering me."
Giving him a slight smirk, she stuck her tongue out at him. "Sure thing Lu. And then you can shower tonight."
Lucas flushed harder, but he couldn't really argue further. He was pretty submissive by nature. "Alright… what do you intend on force-feeding me?"
"I was thinking, maybe like a sandwich, if you like those." Melissa smiled, glancing over to the table to see her father sitting there working on his laptop. "Hi papa…" She said softly, before letting go of Lucas's hand and turning to the fridge.
"I like pretty much everything, Mel. Except maybe onions… weird texture." Lucas hummed softly to himself and gave a polite nod to Melissa's father as a greeting.
Nodding back, Mr. Brennahan watched the two curiously. "What are you two doing?" He asked softly, peering over the top of his laptop. "Just getting a light snack, we ate lunch after you got back." Melissa hummed, pulling cold deli meat from the fridge.
Lucas stepped back so he wouldn't be in Melissa's way. "I promise we'll be out of your way soon, sir."
"No, no, you kids aren't in my way. I was just curious." He reassured Lucas, pulling the top of his laptop closed. "How was the two of you's day?" The man asked softly, watching his daughter in particular. Pausing, Melissa pulled back from the fridge to glance at Lucas before her father. "It… was fine."
