@Fraust

"Well, I know that you appreciate me. I may not understand why or think I deserve your appreciation, but I know that you do."

@Fraust

"Probably my dad, to be honest… and being bullied when I was younger." Lucas sighed softly. "All… all the physical and verbal abuse just… makes me feel worthless. Like i don't deserve to even be alive, much less burden other people with my troubles. It's hard for me to imagine someone genuinely enjoying my company."

She had figured as much, giving him a soft yet heavy sigh. "What about your mother? Or brother even? Did the negative take that much out of you?" Melissa asked him, still biting into her lower lip.

@Fraust

Lucas looked up at Melissa weakly. "You know Claus teased me a ton… it bothered me a lot more than I let on. I never told him, obviously, because I didn't wanna make him feel bad. And my mom's been gone for years, and… well, my dad's said enough to me to make me feel guilty about both my mom and Claus dying."

Falling silent, she let it all sink in. 'He really doesn't know what love feels like…' Melissa decided, looking back out into the yard. Her heart ached for him, wishing she had been able to do something about it. "Am I being too pushy? We can stop talking about it if I am."

@Fraust

Lucas shook his head. "No… you're okay, Mel. I should've told you this earlier. Even despite all the shit Claus did to me and all the shit my dad does, I just… it hurts how much I care about them. I miss Claus and my mom so much, and I can't imagine losing my dad."

@Fraust

"Should I go to therapy?" Lucas chuckled weakly. "Absolutely. I definitely need help. But like you said, I'm broke as hell."

"Then that's step two. Once we get money for an apartment, we'll get you to therapy. There's no changing my mind, you need this." She whispered, reaching over to take his hand in her own. "You've done a lot for me, it's my turn to return the favor."

@Fraust

Lucas sighed quietly and pulled Melissa into a hug. "Thanks, Mel… I mean, I think just about anyone would need therapy after years of abuse and self neglect."

@Fraust

Lucas nodded, smiling weakly. "Thanks… it really does mean a lot that you care, Melissa." He murmured.

Pulling back from him, she stood herself up and held a hand out to him. "Of course Lu, anytime." Humming softly, she looked down to him. "Wanna head back inside? The sooner we deal with this, the better."

@Fraust

"Yeah… probably should. And knowing me, we'll end up right back here in a few minutes." Lucas accepted her hand and stood up, reluctantly letting go when they headed in.

Her mother had an incredibly tight jaw, eyes sharp with a glare. Her father was more relaxed, yet still didn't look very happy. Straightening her posture, giving her an extra half inch, she held her breath tight in her chest. "You two, sit." Mrs. Brennahan ordered them, pointing to the couch.

@Fraust

Lucas sat down nervously, immediately anxious and tense again. We're fine… we didn't do anything wrong. She can't reasonably give us a severe punishment.

The way he was sitting gave it away, she knew he was getting nervous again. Casually, she took his hand in her own, running her thumb over his knuckles gently. "You two have a lot of explaining to do. How long have you been in the house together?" Mr. Brennahan asked, arms crossed over his chest.

@Fraust

"Um… about a day, I think?" Lucas glanced over to Melissa so she could back him up. "I was unconscious for a good majority of the time, sir, so I'm unfortunately not entirely clear myself…"

"That sounds about right to me," She pitched in, keeping her gaze straight forwards to her parents. "I spent the night at Laura's when you dropped me off, but she got really sick. So I came here by myself. I didn't want to bother you, so I didn't call." She smoothed over the bumps in the story, managing to stay calm and collected. Mrs. Brennahan didn't seem convinced. "So it's been only you two the past day and a half? You didn't have anyone else over, for a party or anything?"

@Fraust

"Well, I think Melissa called Brett to help with the glass, but otherwise, no. Just us." Lucas replied, reaching up to adjust his bandages a bit.

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

"You had Brett come?" Mrs. Brennahan asked, seeming to soften up at the mention of her nephew. Melissa began to relax some, giving a soft smile. "Yes ma'am. He didn't spend the night, but he came to help." She hummed scooting back in her seat. Her mother glanced up to her father and sighed. "You better be telling me the truth young lady. If I find out you were lying to me, there is going to be a serious punishment."

@Fraust

"We're not lying, I assure you, ma'am. I'm sure you could call Brett and he'd say the same thing. I don't know when he arrived actually, since I passed out, but he was here when I woke up… then he helped get the glass out of my head."

Nodding just slightly, the woman stood up in her place and started out for the door. "Melissa, you're still in pretty deep, but me and your father need to talk before we make anything official." She whispered, walking out of the room completely. "Are you alright son? Do you need anything to clean your injuries?"

@Fraust

"N-No sir, thank you…" Lucas dipped his head respectfully, his heart still fluttering anxiously. He didn't think he'd ever heard a man's voice speaking to him so kindly. Even when his father hadn't been abusive, he was still a rather cold, stoic man.

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

"Alright, if you're sure." He nodded softly, following his wife out of the room. Sitting in silence for a moment, Melissa made herself breath slowly. "You going to be alright?" She asked him under her breath, trying to relax her heart rate.

@Fraust

"I… y-yeah, I think I'm okay…" Lucas exhaled shakily. "Your dad is a lot nicer than my dad…" He said quietly.
