Lucas looked up at Melissa weakly, his eyes distant and a bit glassy. He was trying his best to stay conscious, but he honestly didn't know how much longer he would be able to hold on. His eyes fluttered as they tried to close again, but he forced them to stay open.
"He's bleeding, a lot. He'll be alright Mel, honestly he would be in less pain." Brett whispered to her, trying his best not to hurt Lucas. Though he was also trying to stop the blood flow, so he had to apply pressure. "What if he doesn't wake up!?"
Lucas winced again when Brett pressed down on the wounds, tightening his grip on Melissa a bit. He tried to say something, but the washcloth in his mouth prevented him from saying anything discernible. His eyes stung with pained tears, and he was really trying to stay awake for Melissa's sake.
"He will wake up, I promise you. You just need to let him go. He isn't dying." Brett pleaded with her, watching Lucas's face. It pained him to watch Lucas suffer. Conflicted, Melissa gave his hand a squeeze back before looking up to him. "You don't have to hang on Lu," She whispered in a broken tone, tears starting to streak down her face.
Lucas nodded weakly and closed his eyes again. A second later, he sighed and went limp, no longer able to actively hold onto Melissa. It was better this way, right? It would hurt less, anyways, and hopefully wouldn't make Melissa have to suffer by watching him in pain.
"How long do you think he'll be out?" She asked softly, still tracing his knuckles with her thumb. Melissa stood to support him, so it would be easier on Brett, trying to fix him up. "A couple hours, at least." Her cousin mumbled, tossing the bloodstained towel aside. There wasn't much Melissa could do, so she sat there holding him close.
(Should we skip to when he wakes up?)
(Probably, considering you have nothing to do eheh)
(Knowing Melissa, she would have put him in her bed after the fixed him up, and she would be sleeping on the floor. But whatever you do is good :3)
(I figured lol)
Lucas awoke a few hours later in a soft bed and bandages wrapped around his head. Confused, naturally, though mostly at the bed, he looked around and noticed Melissa on the floor. I must be in her room… "Mel…?" He called weakly, wondering if she was awake.
Her sleep was dreamless, and rather restless to say the least. Brett had offered to stay, but Melissa had asked him to go, so she was here on the floor by Lucas. Though his voice stirred her slightly, causing her to look up at him in a squint. Because of the darkness, she couldn't exactly make out his face. But of course she knew it was him. "Hm?"
"Why are you on the floor?" He asked curiously. "This is your bed. I have no right being here." He seemed a little bit nervous, actually, and was fidgeting with his hands. "Don't you wanna be up here instead? I can't imagine it's comfortable down there."
Giving him a teasing look, she sat up carefully. "Don't worry about me, Lu. I'm perfectly fine on the floor." Melissa hummed, patting his knee carefully. "I put you to bed after we got you fixed up. I didn't want you to hurt yourself by sleeping on the floor." She mentioned, rather groggily. Still tired, she rested her head on his knee, and yawned. "Do you know what time it is?"
"No, I don't know what time it is… and I don't want you sleeping on the floor, especially in your own room." Lucas patted her head affectionately. "And since I know you won't let me sleep on the floor and I don't trust my ability to get all the way to your brother's room at the moment, get up here."
Incredibly thankful for the darkness of the room, her face flushed madly. "You… you're sure?" Melissa asked hesitantly, standing up from her place on the floor. She sat herself on the bed besides him, her face still red. "I don't want to make things uncomfortable for you." She whispered, keeping a slight space between them.
"Yeah, it's fine." Lucas smiled softly, his face very red as well. "Goodnight, Melissa." He turned on his side and closed his eyes, soon drifting back into the realm of unconsciousness. His breathing was far more easy and relaxed when he was asleep.
Melissa slid her arm around his waist, resting her head on his back. Lucas was right, she was an extremely affectionate person, but this was clearly meant for someone special. And she found that he filled that place. Once comfortable, she found herself beginning to slip off as well. Rather peacefully she slept, until the morning sun began to rise in the sky.
Lucas was still asleep when Melissa awoke. At some point in the night, he'd ended up turned to face Melissa and had wrapped his arms around her, their faces quite close to each other's. If their faces were close, their bodies were far closer. They were definitely just cuddling at this point, but Lucas didn't have any clue.
Melissa felt tense, the feel of his breath on her lips was agonizing. Though she didn't want to wake him up, so she didn't move. Her heart beat faster, and her face flushed brighter, she had nowhere to go. It was so tempting to press her lips to his, but she avoided the temptation to her best extent. She decided resting her head on his upper chest was the best thing for her to do in the moment.
Lucas awoke about half an hour later and took a second to process what was happening before he quickly pulled away, blushing furiously and apologizing profusely. "I-I'm so sorry, Mel, I… I didn't mean to I… I'm sorry!"
She didn't have the time to catch on, looking up to him surprised. "W-what? Oh, Lu, you're fine!" Melissa said quickly, taking his arm and pulling it back around her. "You're OK, you don't have to apologize." Being quick, but careful, she rested a hand on his cheek with a soft smile. "Trust me, I don't mind."
Lucas's heart was pounding hard by now, and he had no idea what to do. Clearly Melissa wanted him to stay, so he didn't try to leave again, but he was still very nervous and flustered and couldn't stop apologizing.
Giving him a soft, concerned look she spoke softly to him. "Shh, you're going to go into a fit if you don't relax." Carefully she pet his cheek with her thumb. She didn't know if she should pull back or stay close. So she stayed where she was at.
Lucas nodded weakly and tried to relax, struggling to meet Melissa's eyes. "I-I… are you sure you're okay with this, Mel? I really don't wanna make you uncomfortable…"
(Again,
Lucas and Melissa: We're just friends)
(Ahhhh, yeah. Legit, they could be kissing right now, and still say they were just friends. Honestly)
Smiling with a soft look, she spoke in just above a whisper. "I'm really okay with this, trust me." Melissa yawned with a smile. "But if you aren't, we don't have to keep snuggling." She cooed, still looking tired.
(Yep)
"N-No, it's okay…" Lucas hesitated before forcing himself to calm down. "Just let me know if you want me to leave…"
"Of course I don't want you to leave." She hummed, with a slight pout. "Why would you even think that?" Her face displayed slight offense, and confusion mixed together.
"W-Well, we're… we're basically just cuddling at this point, and in your bed no less. I don't want you to be uncomfortable."
"I don't mind it though, so don't worry." She reassured him, resting her head back on his chest. The sound of his steady heart beat put her to ease, knowing she wasn't dreaming. He was alive, and safe.
Lucas sighed softly and eventually gathered up the courage to wrap his arms around her again. He closed his eyes, soon drifting off into a light sleep.
"Lu?" She asked softly, hearing his snores. Not wanting to, she knew it was probably best to get up now before they fell asleep for a couple more hours. With her luck, her parents would come back today, and find them sleeping together.
