@Fraust

(Sounds good to me. Maybe we've got our schedules and we're meeting up to compare them to see if we've got any classes together? If so, should we stick with meeting at Melissa's house? Lucas's house is a hellhole and he'd never invite anyone over lol. Should it just be the two of us or did we invite other friends too?)

@Fraust

Lucas's heart fluttered a bit as he read over Melissa's text again, a small smile growing onto his features. He was going to get to see her again. It had been a while considering how busy the both of them were during summer, but school was starting up in just a week. The month or so he'd gone without seeing any of his friends, Melissa in particular, had been unbearable. What with his father and all, almost any time spent at home was unbearable. He sighed softly and ran his fingers through his hair, his fingers brushing the rough scabs from the glass wounds he'd sustained earlier that week.
I'll have to change into something nicer… He thought to himself, shutting off his phone and digging through his clothes to find something decent. He eventually decided on a simple pastel blue hoodie and jeans paired with his usual red hi-tops. He pulled out his phone again to text Melissa.
On my way
He headed out the door quietly to avoid his father noticing him and started walking to Melissa's house. It was a bit far by foot, but he didn't mind. It was a nice day out anyways.

(Man, I'm so sorry)

Melissa was waiting patiently as she sat there. Her room was quiet, and so was the rest of her house. Her parents had gone on a trip out of town, and She was suppose to be at her friend's house for the weekend. But when she got pretty sick, Melissa turned around and went back home. Even if she had to be alone, she'd rather that than get sick. Slowly, doubts filled her mind. 'Should I not have texted him? Was that a bad idea?' She wondered, biting her lower lip out of nervousness. She had just invited her best friend over, but of course she had a minor crush on him. Isn't that what always happens in the end?
But that ding, it sent waves through her. She couldn't place whether it was relief, or fear.
So picking up her phone, she read it slowly, and her face burst with a bright smile.
"Yes!!" She chirped, pushing up from her spot on her bed. Quickly, she went to her closet to change out of the lounge clothes she had been in. Even if he didn't care, she did. Melissa wanted to make sure she was at least presentable.
So once changed, she grabbed her school bag and jogged down the stairs into the living room. The whole house being quiet, she turned on the television to let it fill the silence.

@Fraust

(No problem lol)
Lucas arrived at Melissa's house in about half an hour. He hadn't rushed, of course. Melissa knew how long it took to walk from his house to hers, and he didn't want to seem desperate or anything. He finally arrived and knocked on the door, the noise seeming to echo the pounding of his heart.
He couldn't lie to himself and say he wasn't excited to see her again. He could, however, lie to himself about just how excited he was. She's my best friend… of course I'll be happy to see her. I don't like her in any way other than friends. Definitely not. He told himself firmly while he waited for Melissa to come to the door.
He did some last second adjustments to his hair. He liked it neat, but not too neat, so he tousled it a bit with one hand. That's a bit better, I guess… do I look okay? Wait… I don't care. Melissa doesn't care how put together I look. We're best friends. He didn't notice the light bruise on his collarbone from his father yesterday. He still hadn't told Melissa anything about that, of course, though he was sure it was growing suspicious that he always wanted to go to her house and never his own.

Melissa heard the door, her heart stopping. "Oh good grief! What's wrong with me?" She groaned, rubbing her face just slightly, out of embarrassment. Forcing herself to go to the door, she put her hand on the handle.
And still didn't turn it. Just standing there.
Still standing there.
It was killing her, but at the same time, she couldn't make herself open it. But she knew if she didn't, he would probably just knock again, or text her. So she did all she could to gather courage. Which she was failing at, really badly. 'What if it isn't him?' She wondered, gripping the handle tighter. 'Oh no I'm being ridiculous, just open it!'
So she did just that, yanked the door open. "Hey!"

@Fraust

"Hey, Mel!" Lucas grinned, hugging her tightly. "It's been way too long… how've you been?" He asked, letting go of her once he realized he'd been hugging her a little too long. There was a light flush on his cheeks, but if she asked, he'd just say it was the long walk or the heat or something.
At the sight of her, his heart fluttered again. I'm just happy to see her. That's all. Nothing more than that. Even so, he couldn't hide the sparkle of joy in his baby blue eyes. It wasn't something that was there very often, to be honest, but seeing Melissa always seemed to drag it back out from the depths of his heart.

Feeling his arms around her, made her get excited. She had jumped just slightly at the unexpected hug, but was happy to be here. Her smile grew, even as he let her go. "I've been alright, though once my parents find out I'm not at my friend's house, they'll probably kill me." She sighed, tucking back a section of her long brunette hair.
His smile, his eyes, just everything was perfect about him. To her at least. The only other person that knew of her crush on him, was her cousin, Brett. He always teased her about it, but she didn't mind. He was respectful, even if he was a little kidish.

@Fraust

"Meh… they'll get over it." Lucas shrugged, running his fingers through his hair again as he glanced over his shoulder at the street. He personally thought Melissa was gorgeous - in a completely platonic way, of course. It baffled him that she didn't have a boyfriend.
"So… should I come in, or are we just gonna stay in your doorway for hours?" He asked teasingly, a small smirk on his face. "Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely day, but we should probably go somewhere else if you're really wanting to stay outside."

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

Face heating up, she laughed nervously. "I mean, we could always go for a walk later." Melissa suggested, reaching out to take his hand in her own. "But for now, we have peace and quiet here. So I suggest we take advantage of that." She smiled, leading him through the door, walking backwards.
Her green eyes took in his features, feeling her heart turn in her chest. So to keep herself from acting strangely, she turned to walk the correct way. Melissa was trying so hard, not to make her crush obvious. But it was rather difficult, when he was just too cute.

@Fraust

Lucas blushed a bit as well when Melissa took his hand. He let her lead him in anyways, definitely a little relieved when she turned and he didn't have to worry about eye contact anymore. "So, you wanted to compare our schedules, right?" He asked when they came to a stop. "To see if we've got any classes together?"
He reluctantly let go of her hand when they stopped, feeling an almost empty chill fill his heart when he did so. Holding her hand had felt so nice, so… natural.
Gah! Friends! We're just friends! I can't be thinking about holding her hand! He mentally slapped himself again, but he thankfully managed to keep his face looking normal despite the war raging in his mind. Unlike Melissa, he had told no one about his crush on her. He wouldn't even admit it to himself, clearly, but having no vent was definitely difficult for him.

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

Stopping in the middle of the living room, she turned to face him. "Yeah, I just want to know that my best friend," Pausing when she felt his hand let go of hers, she felt a little disappointed. "…if my best friend was in any of my classes." She mumbled now, a little less perky than before. Sitting on the edge of the couch, she slid the paper off of the coffee table.
She was reading over it, slowly and carefully. There had to be at least one class they were going to be in together. She really hoped so at least. If not, that meant they'd rarely get to see each other at all.
Reading over the list, she was happy to have something to distract her. She loved Lucas, in a platonic way more than anything, but he made her nervous. She did her best to hide it, assuming she was doing a decent job. The two were close, if he had any suspicions, he would ask her. Right?

@Fraust

Lucas sat beside Melissa on the couch and turned on his phone. He'd just taken a picture of his schedule so he didn't have to carry a paper around everywhere. He read over his schedule and started comparing it to Melissa's.
"It looks like we have math together…" He murmured. "And English. I'm in art third period, though, so we're not in that class together. Science…? No… different teachers…" He kept muttering to himself as he compared the papers. They seemed to have a decent amount of their classes together.

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

Melissa took the advantage to scoot a little bit closer to him. Just subtly, nothing major, because she didn't want to be too obvious. "What about History?" She asked him, leaning over to look over his shoulder. Totally not another excuse to stay close to him. Not at all.
Her eyes flicked back and forth between the two schedules, and she quickly pieced the classes they were in. "I have choir at 6th period. And then after school I have… piano lessons I think." She mumbled, noting un-important things, just because.

@Fraust

Lucas nodded. "Yeah, we've got history together… I don't know what days I'll have practice after school. Coach'll tell us when it comes to it." He shrugged. He didn't really seem to notice Melissa moving closer, but he definitely did. "He said I'm going to be the team captain his year, so I'm definitely looking forward to that. I mean, it'll be a little stressful with the pressure and all, but I can handle it."

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

Melissa looked rather surprised, but in a pleased way. "Why didn't you tell me?" She asked, resting a hand on his arm. "That's awesome Lucas! Look at you go." She told him, setting the paper back on the coffee table. "You totally deserve this, you have got to be the best player on that field." She grinned, wrapping her arms around his shoulders. Truly, she was really happy for him. He needed all the good news he could get. A lot of bad things had happened for him, so having something good was really great.

@Fraust

Lucas grinned and blushed again at her excitement, looking away. "Oh, stop… I'm not the best, surely. There's a lot of good guys out on the field." He said humbly. "And I only just found out last week, and since you'd already said you wanted to compare schedules when we got them, I figured I'd surprise you."
Melissa was definitely right about bad things happening to him. She didn't know about the abuse, as far as he knew. She probably would have called someone if she knew. She did know about the deaths of his mother and Claus, however. Claus's death had hit him really hard. Losing a twin was so much harder than losing anyone else, at least to him. They had been really close, and Lucas had quickly declined mentally after that. He hadn't gone to school for two weeks after Claus died, and he didn't contact anyone at all. He ended up returning to school since he couldn't bear to be away from Melissa and his other friends for any longer.

She gave him a teasing smile, and loosened her hold on him. "You're an excellent player, and I really think you're the best. No doubt in my mind you are." She hummed, resting her head on his shoulder. "I'll come to every game, as long as other thing don't get in the way." She whispered, biting her lip, only to let it slip from her teeth once more.

@Fraust

The light flush in Lucas's cheeks deepened a bit when Melissa lay her head on his shoulder. "Thanks, Mel… I look forward to seeing you there." He smiled softly as he looked down at her. He fought a strange urge to kiss her cheek. Definitely can't do that… we're just friends, after all. Nothing more than friends… well, best friends, I guess.

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

(I'm sorry for disappearing. I'll be plenty more active now, probably until late April)

Her smile only grew at his words, her heart fluttering. 'He's looking forward to it! Well… I mean we are friends…' She corrected herself, knowing he wasn't thinking the same way she was. Then again, no one thought like Melissa. Her thoughts were a mystery, just the same as her mood. The only person who could read her, was probably Lucas. So hiding her emotions towards him, was increasingly difficult.

@Fraust

(No problem ^^)
"So… do you wanna go on that walk now?" He asked awkwardly, still looking down at Melissa. "Still nice outside, anyways… and there's not much else to do in here unless you want to watch a movie or something." Honestly, watching a movie could be fun as well, but Lucas wanted to let Melissa choose what she wanted to do.

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

Shrugging, she pulled away from him, scooting back into the couch. “Whatever you want to do. I really don’t have a preference. I’m free all evening, so it’s whenever you have to go.” She hummed, glancing over to his hand. So badly she wanted to hold it again, but she wasn’t going to make a move on it. If they did go for a walk, she had an excuse to, otherwise she wasn’t going to. “So what do you want to do?”
