”By throwing a few of your own at him!” she finally snapped. ”I don't know how, but you never should have become a legal guardian. He would have been better on his own.”
”By throwing a few of your own at him!” she finally snapped. ”I don't know how, but you never should have become a legal guardian. He would have been better on his own.”
"On his own? He was…four, when his mom left? You think I should have thrown a four year old onto the streets? Damn, you're a cold bitch, aren't you?"
”No. I.. I didn't mean on the streets.” she said, a little flustered. The report, or what she remembered of it at the moment, didn't mention Killian’s age when his mother disappeared. ”I meant to someone who wouldn't have beat him the way you did. Someone who would have actually cared about him.”
"I cared. Kid got a good schooling, had a roof over his head and clothes on his body, and food in his stomach. Shoulda been grateful for what he got."
”And the scars? You expect him to be grateful for those too?” she growled, clenching her fists at her sides. ”For being forced to join a gang just because you're a member?”
"I never forced anything. I just strongly encouraged." he replied, lifting his chin and glaring at her.
”At what? The end of a gun? With your fists?” she snarled, trying to keep from falling to the urge to strike him… to kick him… to take revenge that she had no right to take.
"Why would you think I'd ever pull a gun on my son?" He seemed almost…affronted by the very idea.
(Gtg soon)
”I wouldn't be surprised if you did.” she clarified, forcing herself to take a step back, away from him. ”You were arrested, not only for your actions in the Ten Cranes, but for charges of abuse as well. And suspicion of your wife's disappearance.”
(ok. Good night.)
"Suspicion, not fact." he waved a hand. "They tore the house apart looking for a body. Never found one. Can't prove I ever did anything to her."
”But medical records prove what you did to your son.” she pointed out. ”And if they only searched the house, then it must have been their first day.” she rolled her eyes. There were hundreds of ways to hide a body… and as much as she hated to admit it, Henry Blackwood wasn't stupid enough to leave a corpse in the house or someplace obvious that could be traced back to him.
"I disciplined him. There's a difference. And as for the house…" he shrugged. "I assume they looked other places too, but how should I know?"
”You are right about one thing; there is a difference. The difference is discipline doesn't leave scars.” she scowled at him as the police finally arrived.
He shook his head a little bit. "Ah, I don't expect you to understand. You don't seem the type to have kids."
Jade bit her lip, hard, to keep from giving any hint to what she was like as a civilian and gave a brief nod to the approaching officer.
The cop grabbed Henry and got him to his feet to escort him to the car.
Henry jerked back, fighting against the cop's grip.
”You really want to add resisting arrest to your list?” Jade asked with a note of snark as a second officer quickly joined his partner, grabbing Henry's other arm.
Henry growled under his breath, but stopped, letting the officers push him into the car.
Jade walked over to her bike, picking up her bola on the way. She quickly put the weapon away and drove off as the cops shut the door once Henry was seated.
Henry was driven away, to the station, to be reprocessed and locked away again.
Jade drove back to her Den. She needed to blow off some steam before she talked to Killian. Henry had been absolutely insufferable to deal with. How had Killian been able to tolerate living with that?
Killian himself was at home, sitting in his chair and reading. He was pretty sure Jade would be alright.
Jade went through the entrance of her hide-out a little quicker than normal. She didn't even wait for the elevator to fully stop before she jumped off and set her helmet on her desk as she headed over to her little ”gym”, intending to pummel her bag for more than a few minutes.
Killian shot her a text.
you alright? everything go ok?
He asked, then went back to his book, waiting for a response.
Jade heard the text arrive but didn't stop punching the bag. ”Sparky. What's the message?”
”It’s from Killian.” Sparky informed her as his hologram turned on. ”He wants to know if you're ok.”
Jade sighed a little and glanced at her I.A. ”Yeah. I’m alright. If he's asking about…” she paused, throwing another punch. ”Tell him that I'm not hurt. The guy didn't even put up a fight.”
Sparky nodded and sent two messages. The first summarized what Jade told him to say. The second was; She’s a little on edge from dealing with him but she's physically unhurt. -S
ah alright. did anything happen?
Killian replied back, frowning a little bit.
No. I knocked him down before we even got close. Jade answered, gritting her teeth a little as her next punch stung slightly more than before.
good. you planning on coming back later?
He watched the phone, awaiting the response.
She paused her attack and attempted to let her brain catch up with the moment. ”Yes… If you would like me to.” she eventually replied through Sparky.
of course. i'll make dinner, yeah? :)
He smiled softly, already planning what he could make.
