She shook her head

He sighed and gently placed his hand on her shoulder. He looked in her blue eyes, silently asking if this was ok.

She nudged him off.

He let his hand drop at her action. Being this close to her again but not able to touch her almost hurt more than the fight did. ”It’s not your fault.” he told her gently.

"I shouldn't have come back" she said

”I think you should have come sooner but I also think you were very brave for coming home at all.” he told her. ”Betty, this isn't going to kill me. I’ve had much worse before I met you.” he reminded her. ”Remember when you bruised your leg when you first came to my house?”

She nodded

”It hurt at the time but you can still walk.” he pointed out caringly. ”I promise you, I am going to be fine. A bruise is a very small price to pay for you to be back home and safe.”

" it's not just a bruise" she said

”Yes it is, love.” he assured her. ”I know it. Nothing is broken.”

" not for you for me" she said

”What is it then, love?” he asked gently.

She shook her head " it just hurts everything hurts" she said

”What hurts?” he asked in confusion, sitting up to better look at her. How was she hurt when he had been the one in the fight?

Besides the bruises and cuts all over her she was emotionally hurting

He had noticed the marks around her neck from earlier but the others must have been hidden at the time. ”Oh, angel. It's ok. You're safe now.” he promised softly as he very gently pulled her into a hug.

She nodded

He kissed her forehead and gently made comforting motions against her back.

The next morning Betty was laying in bed her eyes wide open Marie have slept on the couch last night for some reason she refused to leave the house she laid there wondering about the possibilities would they all be okay if she died or would they be lost without her

For once, Lysander had actually woken up earlier than normal for him. He knew Marie was here but he didn’t know why she was still here. He smiled softly as he saw his wife wake up in his arms. “Good morning, angel.”

She smiled gently and snuggled closer

He smiled back and held her closer.

She closed her eyes and it all came crashing down all the bad memories

He could hear her heart pick up and could recognize that she was scared. He gently kissed her temple. ”It’s alright, love. You're safe now, remember. He's gone.” he reminded her softly.

" why's Marie here" she asked

”I honestly don't know.” he admitted. ”She just showed up yesterday and in all the excitement, I thought she would have left last night.”

She groaned closing her eyes but winced realizing she reopened the wound on her lip

He saw her wince and could smell the blood. He gently ran his finger over the cut. ”I’m so sorry, princess.”

She sighed " I shouldn't have ran from him" she said

“Don’t say that.” he told her gently. ”You did the right thing in getting away from him.”
