"Yeah…" Crystal and Claude were complete opposites in a lot of ways, but yet she really enjoyed his company a lot of the time. "But cats can only do so much." She said quietly as her cat growled at the dog, making it whimper and walk away from the bed. Then Taffy hopped up onto the bed and glaring at Claude curled up next to Crystal, nuzzling her face, as she purred. Crystal pet the cat gently, blinking away a few tears as they slipped down her cheeks.
Claude looked at the cat with distaste. “Uh-huh. She’s a demon. My dog didn’t do jack to her, you know.” He whistled, bringing Orpheus trotting back. Claude scratched under the dog’s chin as he spoke. “You know you can’t just sit here and mope forever, right? You’ve already blown through four tubs of ice cream. Very out of character. What’re you gonna do now?”
"Sit here and eat icecream?" She said meekishly, hugging the cat. "And he's a dog" Crystal said with obvious distaste. "She's a cat. A natural hatred. And Taffy doesn't like anyone but me and you know that. No need to be so cruel to such a sweet creature." She said defensively. The song started over once more and she hugged the stuffed animal tighter. She felt deflated. Normally she'd be a fire and spite.
“Cool it, I’m just saying.” Claude raised his hands defensively. “The ice cream thing.. yeah, no. You’re going to make yourself sick. Eat like.. a vegetable? I don’t know. Just not four tubs of sugar.” He clicked his tongue, standing up. Claude picked up the pile of garbage from earlier, walking out of Crystal’s room. “I’ll be back!” He called, Orpheus hot on his heels.
She rolled her eyes and covered her head up with the blankets. "I don't need people I have my cat and candy. I'll be alright." She gave her cat a light hug as it licked her nose, purring even louder.
“Yeah? Then I’ll be in the kitchen. Call if you need anything.” Claude got to cleaning all of the dishes, his dog pacing in circles in the doorway. He sighed, placing everything out to dry.
She stayed there. Yes she did know she had things like classes and tests and work to do but all she wanted to do was sleep and stay right there in her bed.
Claude sat on the counter, scrolling through his phone. He considered going back to check on Crystal, but.. she seemed really upset, and it felt better to just let the girl have some time to herself for a bit.
She did not come out for hours on end. She almost always cooked dinner as well, insisting upon it. She prided herself upon her cooking, and other abilities as well. Instead a few vines slithered into the kitchen, and grabbed her another tub of icecream and a spoon. She used her vines for almost everything. Now see, Crystal was very heavily into cottage core, her whole room had plants and other naturalistic things. A lot of oranges and browns as well. But her favorite color she wore as much as possible.
Claude sighed, finally going back to Crystal’s room. “Have you even moved? Jesus, Crys, don’t become a shut-in. It’s bad for you.” Claude sighed, sitting back down on her bed. “How long were you and this guy together, anyways?” He looked at Crystal, though he kept a careful watch on her cat as well.
"3 years…" She said quietly as the vine handed her the icecream. She opened up the tub of it and delved into it with her spoon. Her cat has fallen asleep by her head,so she wouldn't be attacking him.
“3? Damn.” Claude let out a low, quiet whistle. “That sucks, wow. Man, here I was thinking it was just a few months, good god. What an ass. What reason did he give you?”
"I was too much. He had found better. I suspect he was cheating on me. This is what I get for putting to much faith into people." She ate another spoonful, shaking her head.
“Oh, definitely. You don’t break up with somebody for a girl you just coincidentally met.” Claude sighed, running his fingers through his blond hair. “But you? Too much? I’ve only known you for like.. a week, but I can tell you’re just a low maintenance person.”
"Low maintence, highly emotional and. Passionate. I pour myself into things Claude. No one wants passion anymore. No one wants to work. Even after 3 years…he only ever wanted sex if I'm being honest. He never bothered to remember my family past, or my schedule for the week, failed to show up to dates down at my favorite coffee shop. He just said he was busy…and yet when he did truly love. When he would put my hair up and twirl me around in skirts. He seemed so happy…" Tears began to spill down her face as she hugged the teddy bear so tight it looked like it might just explode, burying her face into it.
Claude panicked slightly at the sight of Crystal’s tears. “Oh- woah, fuck- hey, it’ll be alright.” He patted her shoulder gingerly, not sure what else to do. “He sounds like a bad guy. You dodged a bullet with him.”
She leaned into his hand, as her makeup dripped further down her face. She couldn't help it as her silent tears turned into sobs. She shoved the icecream into her mouth and tried to hide in the blankets.
“Hey, whoa..” Claude laughed softly, moving to cautiously hug Crystal. “You’ll be okay. You’re better than that sorry excuse for a man anyway.” Orpheus trotted into the room, leaping onto Crystal’s bed once he had gotten wind of the sobs. The dog nudged at her with its slim snout, curious.
Crystal leaned into the hug, not moving out of his arms as she pet the dog. The cat was woken up by the commotion and proceeded to try to attack the dog. "Taffy you quit that." She said,flicking the cat on the nose. It got up and ran off to the living room.
“His whole job is making people happy, I think.” Claude smiled at the borzoi, taking a moment to pet the dog. “He’s a good boy, Orpheus.”
"He's so long." She said, smiling softly as she sat up and patted her lap. The dog folded into her lap and she lay there, giving it belly rubs, baby talking it as she buried her face into his neck, letting Claude's arms remain around her. "I love both dogs and cats. But I saved Taffy. She's just a cranky old girl, that's all."
“Very long. And he still believes he’s a lap dog, you know.” Claude let go of Crystal, running his fingers through his hair. “She’s very cranky. I think she’s growing on me, though.”
"Ah, we'll see. She may tolerate you at best. And what do you mean, I think he's a great lap dog. Isn't that right beautiful?" She said with a smile, kissing it's snout. She left behind a red lipstick mark, which made her grin and giggle.
“He’s a great lap dog, sure, until it’s 3 AM and he steps on your dick because he wasn’t comfortable enough laying on you and has to move.” Claude laughed, breaking into a soft grin when he saw the lipstick on the dog’s white fur.
"And that is why cats are better." She says smarty, sitting up a bit,slowly returning to her usual self as she sat up, and got the dog off of her lap.
“What? I guarantee a cat would do the same thing!” Claude argued back, letting Orpheus’ head fall onto his own lap.
"Cats are sophisticated. Smart and independent." She said with an air of confidence, smile growing a bit more as she sighed,nuzzling into him just a bit.
“Like dogs aren’t? I’ll have you know, this dog is plenty smart. And he’s very sophi- okay, he looks very sophisticated.” Claude held up his dog’s chin, giving the animal a quick kiss on the top of the head. “Don’t try to tell me this face doesn’t just scream elegance!”
"Dear. I am elegance. He is just skinny and tripping over his claws. And trained and smart are two separate things."
Claude scoffed indignantly. “First of all, that’s because he’s a baby. The boy’s only one, give him a chance to toddle around! Second, I never said he was trained. He just follows me around because I’m basically his dad.” He laughed, continuing to pet the dog.
