Kade froze, watching carefully. His hand moved to his dagger by his side, and he cursed himself for leaving his gear back in the clearing.
Kade froze, watching carefully. His hand moved to his dagger by his side, and he cursed himself for leaving his gear back in the clearing.
She rolled her eyes a little. "There's never anybody out here, grumpy." She informed the bear. "Just us. That's why mama picked this place." The nearest town was two days walk away; no wonder she felt so safe out here. Ryke grunted again.
Letting out a barely audible breath of relief, Kade stepped back. It was the princess, of that he was certain. He started to head back toward his gear, to get ready. The bear could be a problem, but he could always kill it.
The bear stood on its hind legs, sniffing at the air and grunting again. Arin tumbled to the ground, and sighed, getting up. "Ryke, bud, there's nobody there." She said patiently.
Pulling his knife jacket on, Kade prepared to strike. He was unaware of how the bear was acting.
Ryke growled impatiently, getting back down on all fours and lumbering to the bush Kade had been hiding behind earlier, sniffing at it. Arin followed the bear, frowning.
He heard the sound of the bear, moving toward him, and, quick as a wink, Kade was behind a tree, watching.
Ryke sniffed around unsatisfied. The big brown bear's small, dark eyes gleamed with far more intelligence than a normal Bear's. Arin was by his side, one hand resting in his fur. "Ryke, what's wrong?"
The bear didn't know he was here… right? Kade frowned, watching to see what would happen, calculating how to take out the bear, who he knew now would be far more of a trouble to take care of.
The bear grunted again, standing on his hind legs and swiping at the air. His claws tore through the tree bark easily, and he dropped back down again.
Kade cursed out loud. There was no other option, then. He pulled two knives from his belt and dropped from the tree, digging the blades into the creature's back.
Ryke roared in pain, lurching up and swatting at the human on his back. Arin's eyes flew wide, a scream tearing from her mouth when she saw Kade. She snatched up a rock, and jumped at Kade without a thought, brandishing the rock as a weapon.
When the bear started to rear up, Kade jumped from its back, leaving the knives there, flipping through the air until he landed in a crouch on the ground. His gear was black, and with his golden eyes, he looked freaky and unearthly. He stood and bowed low, smirking. "Lady Arin. So pleased to finally meet you."
She threw the rock at him. "Fuck off." she snarled, turning to the bear and trying to calm him enough to be able to get the knives out. "Shh, shh buddy." she soothed, reaching up to calm him, petting him soothingly. "Shh, it's alright."
He dodged the rock with ease, watching in amusement as the girl tried to pull the knives out. They had jagged blades, making the process of pulling them out much more painful than going in. He called them his Wasp Blades. While her back was turned, he pulled a blowgun from his bag and slipped a dart covered in sleeping potion into it, and blew. The dart flew straight and true, right at the princess's exposed neck.
Arin's eyes flashed, and she stumbled, falling into Ryke's shoulder, then slumping to the ground, out. Ryke roared again, in pain and anger. He shifted to stand over Arin's unconscious body, growling at Kade.
Kade sighed in mock irritation. "As if this couldn't be harder. Could you please move away from her? Pretty please? You see, I have to take her in, because otherwise I'll get killed. It's a simple thing, really."
Ryke growled, obviously in pain, but didn't move from where he stood over Arin. Blood was starting to mat in his brown fur from where Kade had stabbed him.
"Whoopsy daisy," Kade remarked, seeing the blood. "Well, I guess that can't be helped." He pulled a small, serrated dagger from his belt. It was covered in a powerful sleeping draft, enough to knock out fourteen horses, and kill a man. He smiled at the bear, creeping carefully toward it.
Ryke growled as Kade came closer, raking the ground with those long claws. He snarled, swiping at Kade as soon as the man was within reach.
Dodging out of the way, Kade clicked his tongue. "Ah ah," he said, waving his hand. "Now, that's not very nice, is it?" He darted toward the bear, and as it swiped at him, he dodged the paw and stabbed the dagger into its leg.
The bear roared, stumbling as the stuff took effect. Ryke fell, still half on top of Arin, but not on her enough to hurt her. The brown bear let out a last growl as he passed out.
"Finally," Kade said, grumbling. He looked at the beast and the girl, and sighed. This was going to take some effort. After much pushing and shoving, he managed to get the bear off of her, and lifted the princess, carefully, like delicate china. He carried her to his horse, and slung her over its back.
Arin was limp in his arms, not moving. The bear, unconscious, didn't resist when he was pushed away from Arin.
Kade looked at the great beast lying on the ground, and a lookof unbearable sadness crossed his face before he turned it away. He too, climbed on to his horse, and, adjusting her body carefully, kicked his horse into a gallop.
She would wake chained to a bed in a remote inn.
(Gonna do a little tiny timeskip~)
Arin awoke and immediately tried to lurch up. She couldn't, and fell back onto the bed, breathing. She glared up at the ceiling, then looked around the room, twisting her hands and testing the chains. Trying to get out.
"I wouldn't try that if I were you, Highness," Kade clucked. He sat on a bed in the opposite corner, leaning against the wall and snacking on what looked like dried meat. "You'll only hurt yourself."
She saw him, wisps of brown hair falling into her face. She struggled again. "Who the fuck are you?" she snarled, stopping her movements as she realized that it wouldn't do anything.
"Why does it matter?" Kade asked. "Actually, never mind. I'd want to know the name of my captor if I were you." He shrugged. "I go by Kade. The Golden Hunter. Jacos sent me to pick you up, and I am. He's paying a pretty penny for you, so don't hurt yourself."
She went very still, staring at him. "Why?" She asked slowly. "Why does he…what does he want with me?" She took a deep, deep breath.
